Anyone played Breakdown, Namco's first-person brawler released for the original Xbox in 2004? I've been reading little bits of hype about it recently, here and there, specifically with regards to the way it treats player embodiment and game-world interaction. It sounds quite interesting, but the execution is apparently flawed and the game proper is largely forgettable. No real details of the aforementioned more intriguing game play mechanics in the reviews back then at GameSpot or IGN, and Eurogamer were certainly less than impressed*. But I found it online for £3 on Friday (including free delivery) and thought, fuck it. Should turn up sometime next week, assuming CeX can be trusted. I'm interested to know if any other Thumbs have played it and, indeed, if it's worth the high-brow wank being fostered upon it elsewhere on the web. * And surprisingly racist too, I noted.

"Anonymous" declares war on Scientology
Wrestlevania replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Idle Banter
This Scientology schtick is definitely coming to a head; I'm also interested to see how this pans out. I also agree with the "martyr" sentiment though -- I'll be shocked if this doesn't give the crack pots some serious fuel. -
But you're not doing it right! You need to be more of a petulant man-child, like me. Anyway: thank you, all. Having a smashing day so far; managed to find the Limited Edition of Devil May Cry 4 for the same money as the regular version, then a friend bought my my first "proper" sushi lunch afterwards.

Except kill.switch was shit; Gears of War is considerably more polished and has a much better control mechanic. I still don't like the game though.

...though it's bound to have one or two half-pipes. You can read more of Activision's latest round of announcements - including the possible realisation of Guitar Hero DS - on ShackNews.

Cloverfield is the best 'modern' monster film I've seen in years. I'd say everyone should see it, but make sure you go to the best-equipped cinema you can -- it's stunning.

It's crap... isn't it? Tell me it's not just me being incapable of seeing how brilliant a game can sometimes be.

Anyone else seeing this delightfully inappropriate* banner ad on Thumbs at the moment? Sweet. * As in "context" you 'phobes!

Of course, Idle Thumb's natural Marketing Manager.

So the survey works then?! You, Sir, have successfully made one snort the contents of one's mouth through one's nasal passages at considerable velocity.

...wow. Just brilliant. Note to self: Do not attempt to eat sandwiches whilst watching Yahtzee.

Chuffin' 'eck, I still need a lot of practice then... Thanks, Ben.

I fought a 'Tera' and won! But I'm confused... I'm listening to the Rez soundtrack as I write this; I was concerned it might not work outside the context of the game, what with not having all the little snaps and hits from the player shooting things. But it works really well. In fact, I've picked up a lot more of the subtlety in the way each track is layered. Very good stuff indeed.

I'm more inclined to describe it thusly:
-
The guitar-based ones certainly are; I'm hoping Rock Band will cure the malaise.
-
It's pedantry, actually...
-
I would be very surprised if this is feasible; AliasWavefront do so love to fuck-over their userbase on an annual basis -- or sooner, if even remotely feasible.
-
I'm certainly not the most dextrous of gamers and have found I need to perfect hammer-ons and pull-offs to get anywhere on 'Hard'. I'm still just playing Guitar Hero II and Rocks the 80s infrequently on the office PS2 though.
-
I'm glad it scored well, because I think it's one of those games that I might not necessarily like personally, but I can still see it's a polished, well thought out product. Good for Bizarre Creations (and SEGA) I say.

...apparently from a drugs overdose. How miserably sad.

Sure, but I find the complete lack of discourse here concerning Clinton... disturbing -- for the very reason you've stated (amongst others).
-
I notice no-one's mentioning She Who Must Not Be Named... Is this deliberate, or is she really just a blip on the landscape?

I played it for about the same amount of time. I got to the level where you have to work your way down under the sea bed, through an automatic door, and somehow survive the swarm of enemies on your own. All my AI team mates just stayed back at the very start of the level -- absolutely atrocious. Not really that incentivized to take it online, but I'd be interested in setting up a Thumbs match to see if it's any good. Any takers?

Obama for me, too. Fred Thompson eats live orphan children.
