The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
Wrestlevania replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
Oh wow - they sound fantastic! You may like this lot, if you don't already... Neon Neon - Stainless Style Blistering, pouting 80s style Retro Electro-Pop ridiculousness; simply fabulous. (Skip past the couple of jarring gangsta rap fluffs towards the end though--they're arse.) -

A couple of the early tracks on Mirrored are genuinely worthwhile. But by the time it chugga-chugged into track 8, it was all sounding very samey. -

The Flashbulb - Soundtrack to a Vacant Life* I love this. Its immediacy and masterful delivery across quite a range of musical styles is a sweet as each track is succinct. By track 6 you know exactly what you're in for: crackling, intelligent electronic fun. The only thing I can fault is the album title; SEGA Holiday would've been loads better... Battles - Mirrored "Ooh, look at us - with our wailing Chipmunk voices and the same sodding riffs and percussion patterns over and over!" Shut up. Panda Bear - Person Pitch Sounds like how the Beach Boys might if you'd taken a respectable amount of Acid. It works, but I'm not sure if I really like it just yet. The Field - From Here We Go Sublime Bouncy, interesting and not at all unpleasant throughout. If you like your Electronica with a large dollop of soul, definitely check this out. * Many thanks to whoever tipped this one here at Thumbs a while ago (it's getting late and I can't be bothered to page back, sorry). -
And that's another spectacular PSP wallpaper for the collection thankyouverymuch!

They all have definite and relevant thematic missions, which compliment each other and build up small stories about each character. If you break the threshold of 'like' for any character, you unlock their special ability. Like Roman's 'free taxis anywhere' ability. Of course, you can ignore them entirely, so it's not like having to eat in-game or anything.

I don't agree with him, but he's been reasonable all the same.

Thanks, that new trailer is fantastic. This new Batman franchise continues to be so appealing because the casting just seems faultless. Everyone, including Michael Caine - who I typically don't like - has embraced their respective characters on what appears to be such a fundamental level. Really can not wait to see this film, I'm so excited.

Today's first cut produced suitably pleasant results I think... Note to self: go font hunting!

Belated happy returns, Yuf. Hope you had a top burfday!

Ha, brilliant! IM IN UR PETSHOPS, STANDDURDYZIN UR DOG FOODS

That's precisely why I like it. It's especially good for me at the moment as work isn't very enjoyable presently. So turning out a decent one of these helps set me up in a more positive frame of mind each morning. To be clear, I'm also being selective about which iteration of random I go for. But I'm using all of what I get in one complete cycle - there's no point churning out stuff you just don't find inspiring or fun, that's somewhat missing the point in my opinion. You don't buy the first three-piece suit you see in the mall, do you? Cue (further) accusations of 'cheating'...

The 'digital matte' artists that litter CGSociety - particular the concept and speed painting-focussed ones - very rarely disappoint. (Worth subscribing to the CGSociety weekly newsletter if you're a lover of digital art too--it's been one of my favourite subs for years now.) There's also DigitalMatte.org, which hosts a lot of the best stuff found on CGSociety more succinctly.

SEGA signs deal with some guys who made Okami and Resident Evil
Wrestlevania replied to twmac's topic in Video Gaming
Try the demo, it reminded me a lot of Kingpin. But in a good way. The motion sickness even got to me within about 20 minutes though. That fish-eye lens they use gives brilliant vision, but really makes me ill. Didn't get that with the first game at all though, so maybe start there if you haven't played it already - it's still one of my most favourite games. -

If true, I'm sure SEGA will. They're not stupid; look at how well their collaborations with Monolith worked out. -
For anyone who's not already seen, PMOG has finally launched to the public. I've been helping test PMOG since it's very early - and very different! - alpha days more than a year ago. It's recently been redesigned from the ground up and looks better than ever; I'm sure other Thumbs will like their strong Victorian Steampunk aesthetic just as much as me. It's great! I encourage everyone to head over there and have a look. They're a fantastic bunch and have built a brilliant freeform web game.

Excellent - I've added you as an ally. Thinking I may have to switch back to Firefox again now...

You're going to force me to browse Kotaku now, you drunken bustard. Edit: Found it, but twmac's already exposed the juicy bits. -
No point in cheating - no skill in trying to work what you get into something interesting/exciting if you decide to pick them manually.
-
Well that's the idea. Interestingly, I considered the alpha version too passive; it was like Progress Quest in your browser, leveling up based on where you went--and that was pretty much it. The leveling up is still in there, but it's now augmented better by creating quests and setting traps. And it's only as 'active' as you want it to be - you can switch the toolbar off when you want to, or hide it outright. I love the thing, I'm just gutted that it only works in Firefox. I do all my casual browsing in Safari now, as the font rendering is infinitely better than anything else on Windows.

Black and white photography seems as prevalent as ever...

Nice artist typography.

In that case: Wes, buy me a PS3 mate?

Battlestar Galactica Final Season Thread
Wrestlevania replied to Marek's topic in Movies & Television
Yep, agreed - fantastic installment this week. -
I've only watched a little bit, but Weazel News and the sociopath co-hosting that men's health chat show are firm favourites.

That's splendid, n0wak. And so I was compelled to lessen the blunt force trauma of "Monday morning" with another of my own: Love. This. Game!
