  1. Spore demo leaked

Really want to try this, but certain my laptop would choke. Might give it a try tonight anyway, though I'm working late on a much delayed - not to mention highly fraught - website launch at the moment...
  2. New DS design?

    Idle Pr0n..?
  3. For the record, I certainly wouldn't describe GTA IV as cinematic; it's far more like a TV series than a film, because it has lots of little side stories and doesn't rely on carefully set camera angles in each scene. MGS4 on the other hand appears much more tightly focussed in its narrative, events and 'photography'. Which I would describe as cinematic.
  4. I am now flacid with anticipation at the thought of ever playing MGS4. Can't stomach that much non-interactivity in front of a console - it just seems... "wrong" to me.
  5. Slight derailment: I've just this afternoon gotten the original PSX release of Metal Gear Solid emulated perfectly on PSP.
  6. Best Gamecube Title of All Time

Here at Wrestle's Home for Broken Consoles, our latest intake has reacquainted me with a long-lost friend: the Nintendo Gamecube. I've managed to get it working again and so a friend has lent me a couple of games to start playing: Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Which have got me thinking about other highly acclaimed games I missed the first time around: Eternal Darkness Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes Pikmin Resident Evil (aka REmake) Resident Evil 4 (so I can complete it) What other games do you think are essential plays on the Gamecube?
  7. Where is everybody?

Now why'd you go and do a silly thing like that, Jo? They smell and just play computer games all day long. They're a waste of time if you ask me.
  8. Best Gamecube Title of All Time

Ah, of course! BG&E I've played twice on PC; originally almost to completion about 2 years ago, then again earlier this year for a short while. I really like the Gamecube controller, so I think that'd probably make it much more rewarding to play again. Mouse and keyboard, while it basically worked, felt really crap for that game. Super Mario Sunshine I actually had* with my original Gamecube years ago. Never got very far in it, but it was a stunning world to run around in. Definitely need to give it a second chance - thanks for bringing it up! * I had four games in total--the other three being Soul Calibur II (which was brilliant), Resident Evil Zero (really disappointing) and SSX 3 (which is my favourite sports game to date).
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

    ...so to speak.
  10. time to make some album covers

I like to think I'm not so much of a cock as to do exactly what I'd previously spent several posts trying to disprove/debunk. This one's the product of the very first spin of those URLs I've done in weeks, so I think it's karma.
  11. time to make some album covers

Somewhat suggests pretentious Brit-Pop wankery to me, but I still like it:
  12. Anyone else mistakenly attempt to make use of yesterday's glorious weather and pay for it with a swollen, oozing visage before nightfall? Highest pollen count on record for more than a decade and muggins here knows nothing about it until 24hrs after the fact. I was outside not half-an-hour before my eyes suddenly went bone dry and started burning. By the time I'd abandoned Mrs V and the kids (to the charity walk we were all supposed to be doing) and gotten back indoors, my eyes were pouring with that sticky yellow-orange fluid that forms into scabs. By 10pm my eyes had swollen so much that the bags under them were light purple. And when I woke up at 5am they'd glued themselves shut with their hateful secretions. I had to blindly feel my way to the sink, run a bowlful of warm water and the splash my face repeatedly to get them unstuck. Utterly foul and completely pointless affliction, hayfever, but I've never had it quite as bad as I did yesterday. Anyone else suffering at the moment? I managed to see my doctor after work today and am now languishing in the merciful embrace of prescription eye care. £2 cheaper over the counter than on prescription, mind! Had to wear my (admittedly gorgeous) new sunglasses all day at work, which I'm sure did little to impress the new girl who started this morning.
  13. New DS design?

Can't help thinking this is rather stupid "they did it once, they'll do it again!" reasoning. Yes, Nintendo released many versions of the Game Boy. But the architecture changed a fair bit each time, even though the name of the unit prevailed. I can't see Nintendo doing anything more with the DS now. The DS Lite is arguably perfect. And Norfolk, dude, would you mind linking to these images instead of embedding them? A lot of us are at work...
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, why not? The story seems to be that wind (yes, wind) appears to be making people drop down dead... And no, it's not that kind of "wind". :shifty: Would probably be loads better if it was.
  15. Where is everybody?

It's good to switch off properly if you not done so in a while. Good for you. (But it's nice to have you back too!)
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Ooh, erm, not quite sure how to say this but I think it's got the most snigger-worthy bad trailer I've seen in years. We dubbed it The Crappening. It just looks so... arse.
  17. A real face-melter (or "Hayfever's a right b*st*rd!")

    Oh, good...
  18. time to make some album covers

Ow, that makes my brain hurt...
  19. Video games: Causality vs correlation

Fair enough. But it doesn't have the market penetration or mind share of brands like Gears of War or Ghost Recon. Both of those franchises punish you for hurting/killing team mates. (But I really don't want to get stuck on naming every single FPS that does or doesn't.) I can hear Nintendo's marketing department stirring...
  20. Zero Punctuation

Honestly, it doesn't seem like more than a handful of weeks since we watched this the first time around. Why not pick some of his really early, non-Escapist stuff to show more recent viewers where it all began? Definitely an odd choice to show again if you ask me.
  21. Video games: Causality vs correlation

...with the explicit prerequisite being that you're a fucking lunatic. And they've been around just a little bit longer than video games. Completely unsubstantiated anywhere in the article; it's just seemingly plucked out of thin air plopped in for effect. I'm struggling to recall a modern FPS of note that hasn't disciplined a player for killing non-combatants, if not outright punished them when doing so. Yes, granted, there are dozens of shitty low-brow shooters out there. But if you're not discerning enough to ignore that shite then you're probably not discerning enough to differentiate right from wrong on a socially responsible level anyway. And video games have nothing to do with that; it's a huge problem on a far more fundamental level than someone idly shooting things on a screen.
  22. Battlestar Galactica Final Season Thread

Didn't like this episode - it being too self-aware broke the suspension of disbelief for me. However, it did serve to highlight the interesting parallels between Baltar and Roslin; both being led (or is it driven?) by hallucinatory/imaginary figures. And I was mortified when I thought Laura was going to deliberately let Gaius bleed to death.
  23. A real face-melter (or "Hayfever's a right b*st*rd!")

Are you saying it's pointless for me to continue?
  24. Happy Birthday DanJW

It's amazing what you find down the back of the sofa isn't it?
  25. A real face-melter (or "Hayfever's a right b*st*rd!")

I've done this year on year for about the last five; smearing it into my weeping eyes would probably be a more effective defense. Nice to eat honey on toast every morning though! Seems to be very high again today. Slept with a couple of our bedroom's windows on the gap overnight and my eyes were somewhat puffed up again this morning. Not red though, mercifully, so no streaming orange gunk this time either. I'm having to make fastidious use of my eye drops though.
