  1. Dancing Cockatoo

Far more entertaining that the Backstreet Boys themselves ever were. Bird's got soul.
  2. The final episode of Consolevania?

For me - and without wishing to sound rude - it seems like the wheels have been coming off Consolevania and videoGaiden for the last 18 months or so, particularly Consolevania. Skittish scheduling, random appearances and some really strange approaches to things have all led me to expect them to either fizzle out or just stop dead. I'm glad, if true, that they've chosen to stop dead. Being on their terms, it seems more fitting. It sounds like series 3 of videoGaiden, no matter how professionally produced or paced, almost completely burnt the boys out. I'm not surprised, as it must have been pretty grueling to produce far more content far more frequently for a huge company like the BBC in such a short space of time. Especially with Rab's baby daughter arriving right in the middle of things. I think it's the end of Consolevania, but not the end of Rab & Ryan. It seems to me that "Consolevania" as a thing stood for stuff the boys aren't too proud of in hindsight--at least on occasion. And videoGaiden seemed well and truly dead for the reasons I wrote above already, so I wasn't ever expecting to see that show again. (The boys have spoken candidly, in part, not too long since the end of the last series how much of a painful slog it was to complete.) I reckon they'll be back, but Consolevania and videoGaiden as (effectively) "brands" are now done.
  3. Nifty browser games (inc. Flash)

Balls, thought as much. I've been on the beta list since they started taking addresses--still haven't heard anything.
  4. New people: Read this, say hi.

Woo! Another gaming parent on Thumbs--welcome.
  5. Fallout 3

I must be a thorough pervert then, apparently; I adore Fallout 3's bleak, melancholy desolation. I mean, that screenshot just makes it look like Oblivion with guns...
  6. Free Range FTW!

But they make even awesomer dinner! Especially if you wrap them in thin slices of meat from another animal. Or - better yet - stuff the corpse of one animal inside another, then perhaps another--all the way up to 10 if you like! In all seriousness, Hugh Fernly-Dickwhittingstall's antics sometimes make me ashamed to be a devout meat-eater. It's not because it's "too real", but because I don't have a very strong stomach - and also find the idea of cooking animal corpses, one inside the other, quite deeply disturbing. Bit of sage and onion, fine. But fitting dead bodies together like a matryoshka doll is disturbing. I'll stick with what they hosed off the machinery, mixed with breadcrumbs (and gods know what else) and then squirted into edible tubes, if it's all the same with you.
  7. Video games video-games videogames

    A polite, "Wrestle, you're a cunt," would've sufficed.
  8. Video games video-games videogames

Are you saying I have to delete my blog (again)?
  9. Free Range FTW!

Ah, so that's what "gold top" means!
  10. New people: Read this, say hi.

Definitely go back and listen to episodes 1-5 before it's too late. Also: welcome, new people! It's nice to see Thumbs steadily growing again.
  11. Devil May Cry 4

Anyone else tried the demo on Live yet? I thought it was superb. How similar is this to the previous three entries in the series? Being a rapid scrolling beat 'em up fan of yore, I can't help feeling I've let a key franchise pass me by.
  12. Devil May Cry 4

I got horribly stuck a few days after posting the above and didn't finish it. I keep meaning to go back to it, though. I'd say it's definitely worth grabbing if you can find it cheap nowadays, and don't get enraged by ridiculously pretentious Japanese anime pulp.
  13. Black Mesa Source?

I agree; Opposing Force was a belter of an expansion and I'd love to play a revitalised version of it.
  14. The Wire

I'm half way through season 5 of The Wire and I'm hesitant to continue... I don't want it to end!
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Could an administrator please pin this thread - like the movies/TV - too, please?
  16. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Another one for fans of ambient/relaxing music; British electronic act The Orb have supplied a blissful hour-long mix for this week's Resident Advisor podcast. It's very peaceful but still interesting.
  17. Five BioShock sequels

My personal interpretation of the original BioShock story was about exploring the many shades of grey in a personality--not merely black or white. This particular "good vs. evil" analogy is a somewhat wide of the mark, IMO.
  18. Five BioShock sequels

Jesus H. Bronstring, the shitfest Star Wars became is absolutely nothing to aspire to. Unless you're a money-grubbing marketing bottom-feeder of course...
  19. Grand Thumb Auto for the new year

    My poor taxi!
  20. New people: Read this, say hi.

Ah. Now, you see, I thought "hotscooping" meant that - Gods forbid one of your scoops broke mid-use - you could instantly swap out a broken scoop for a new one and just carry on regardless. So, who's hotscooping correctly? Time for a hot scoop, methinks!
  21. Grand Thumb Auto for the new year

ysmaker..? Edit: Word on the street tweet is my friend Infovore's planning to make his second appearance this Wednesday night, too.
  22. New people: Read this, say hi.

Bit harsh. At least s/he didn't write "*********", The Fruit Which Must Not Be Named!
  23. Grand Thumb Auto for the new year

Is that you coyly admitting you've bought her an Xbox 360 for her birthday..?
  24. Grand Thumb Auto

...but can't you see? He clearly wants more!
  25. Wut? Dudes patch & mod Planescape: Torment

I found those additional hi-res mods to download.
