I like the subtle violence here -- makes me think of sleep-deprived postmen getting pissed off with all those Play.com jiffy bags they have to lug around. Very good.
-
Excellent! Thanks very much for the link -- ordering one now.

...so, in case that wasn't very clearly implied from my previous post [see above], I'm able to play L4D very nicely now. Playing with some other Thumbs some time would be ace.

ULTIMATE GAMER (only attractive people apply)
Wrestlevania replied to syntheticgerbil's topic in Video Gaming
"Hello, and welcome to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire World Cyber Games Ultimate Gamer!" Cheap TV set mod ftw. I'm not even going to bother watching it. -
But that makes it a term of deep affection then...

I did a Belbin test as part of my current employment last year, while management were hypothesising about forming new teams from current staff members. It wasn't very interesting to do, but the results certainly made for interesting/controversial/amusing reading at any rate. If I can find my result sheet I'll post it on here for people to look at, if anyone's interested in seeing what a Belbin personality report looks like.

My understanding is that that's a physical impossibility. The reason it needs a separate power coupling (i.e. on the back of the card) is because an AGP slot's power is too restrictive.
-
Managed to find a reasonable photo of the power socket on the back of the Gainward 'Bliss' 7600GS card online: Is this a typical PCI-E power connector? Seeing as it's not a PCI-E card, I've no idea if this is a fair assumption or not. Also: is there such a thing as an IDE-to-PCI-E power socket adaptor? Would mean I don't have to buy a new PSU then, and I think my current one has plenty of spare power (and amperage) on it anyway.
-
My PSU has a very similar-looking plug on it to the plug on the back of the Gainward card, but you can't go male-to-male in PC hardware land. I was thinking of stripping the PSU's plug off and then carefully connecting each cable to the right pin on the graphics card's power port -- but I've no idea which pin to connect each wire to. And the 'Bliss' is an AGP card btw, in the interests of absolute pedantry.

...I was deliberately being trite. Denomination and faith play almost no role in the whole of the expansion; it's almost completely irrelevant, except for a couple of off-hand mentions in interstitial dialogue.

Johnny. Billy's an amazing character all round; design, realisation, voice acting - all top notch. It's a shame the roles aren't reversed and Johnny's the perceived bad guy of the piece. Couldn't make a Jew the baddie in a game though I guess.

Idle Thumbs 21: The Hypersonic Effect
Wrestlevania replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I was cackling like a madman whilst idling in queued traffic this morning when that came on - superb! And I-War! What a wonderful blast from the past that was! I never played it first hand (my PC wasn't powerful enough at the time), but a good friend of mine just raved about it and I used to watch him play sometimes. Great opening sequence to the game too as I recall; really cinematic, but not in the stupid "I'm Commander Dickwad and this is the SS Fucktard!" sort of way. The nearest modern-day celluloid comparison I can think of is something like Firefly; you were doing a job that was bit shitty, not great on prospects, but everyone on board had their own reasonable character and they were professional enough to get things done. I enjoyed this episode so much I was compelled to email you. And now it's right here in black and white SO YOU MUST READ IT!!! Except you don't have to, cuz that's not why I'm writing that I've written. I just want to illustrate that this episode fired me up enough to do something physically, rather than masticate on some half-baked idea in my head. It means you get a half-baked email instead, lulz. -
Better several weeks later than never, I guess..?

The C Word is the absolute highest offensive term I could give someone in our house. "C U Next Tuesday" only gets used in very extreme circumstances. But I swear as part of my regular vocabulary anyway. So if you don't have something that's off-limits, it debases the impact of your vocabulary.

I used to think I was a perfectionist; age has mellowed my opinion of myself and downgraded this to merely "dogmatic". I'm too forth-right, perhaps too opinionated. But I also can't stand people passing off what's clearly shit - or a blatant hack - with no better justification that "it's the done thing". Which is actually code for, "you're making this harder than I was told it would be, and I'm not prepared to go that much further -- whether it's truly the 'right' thing to do or not." That gets me unspeakably angry, to the point where I've had some truly vile exchanges with uncooperative or stubborn colleagues, over details they've decided to trivialise as they're not convenient to them. Why bother? Why even fucking bother creating something if you're not going to take an artisan's approach to it and produce something truly outstanding, given the enough opportunity and the support of your peers? Makes my piss boil, so it does. And maybe I shouldn't have taken a job that combines both writing project specifications as well as overseeing and contributing heavily to the production of them. </rant>

Can't be doing with the whole "idiot spake" meme usually, but found this charming nonetheless:
-
Mental image of a record exec aiming a pistol at Mr Cent and taking shots. After several shots are fired, Fifty glances at the contract and pen on the nearby desk and asks, "is that enough?" "Not if you want to keep the Video game rights as well," says the exec, reloading the gun.

Idle Thumbs 20: Idle Thumbs 2000
Wrestlevania replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It wasn't my intention to kick Jake and Idle Thumbs in the bollocks by proffering good will either. I love the homepage design; it has large, clearly visible bollocks and it shakes them in your face with aplomb. So much more interesting than a lot of similar sites out there. There's also nothing wrong with the layout, interface or information design. So don't get too defensive, Jake. No-one meant any harm I'm sure. -
I don't think anyone minds particularly -- make yourself comfy. It's just that, on the whole, we've a refreshing near-total lack of douchebaggery on Thumbs. So your comment just seemed a little bit snarky, that's all. On the with the competition! Will the competition draw be announced tomorrow then, o' Casters of the Pod?

Argh, what a pain, Dan! On the brighter side: this £2.75 Nvidia 7800GS seems to be working a-OK!
-
Heh, that's the rub at the moment: trying to find a Shader 3.0-capable AGP card is near impossible, hence my punt on fleaBay at the weekend.
-
Sounds good, but is it AGP?

Idle Thumbs 20: Idle Thumbs 2000

Here, here - them tables is the devil's work. Would also gladly muck in, as I've mentioned in the past. JavaScript, HTML, CSS, whatever. Just sayin'.
