  1. Battlestar Galactica Final Season Thread

Having raged above, the interplay between Kara and Lee was electric again. I'd forgotten just how uncomfortably intimate watching those two rub egos against each other was. Granted it was all in flashback, which only serves to highlight how stiff and isolated those two characters have become. But that worked in terms of character arc and blah blah blah. More gaping, ugly holes than Galactica itself.

Don't try this at home, kids: pJqoRaphiEk
  3. Clever reinvention...?

For the sake of pedantry, it's the direct French equivalent of the English slang "willy".

What the hell did they put in the pizza at X48? Wait, I think the clue's in the quotes...
  5. Clever reinvention...?

Do share! /me hopes it means something wonderfully offensive, like "prolapsed anus" or similar
  6. Need Survival Horror recommendations

I do not have the prerequisite hardware, though -- i.e. a Wii.
  7. Not cool?! It made me laugh so suddenly and so hard my chest hurt. Another thoroughly entertaining episode. Thank you very much, gentlemen!
  8. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Has done, with increasing effect, more and more lately. What's really fucking stupid is that clips of number British shows aren't viewable in Britain. Anyway, console yourself with Gary Kasparov's "helicockter interlewd": vbnySBqioB0
  9. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Have mistakenly neglected this thread for a while, so I'd like to compensate by posting Jonathon Dobson's epic This is Offshore mix.

  11. Need Survival Horror recommendations

I really, really need to find a copy of this, now I've got a working GameCube again. Not a big fan of survival horror per se, but this has always had huge appeal to me. The numerous tweaks and additions over the original look so brilliantly nasty. I've also been meaning to pick up Eternal Darkness too. Oh, and one more vote for Condemned; once you get the hang of the (brilliant) fighting system, it becomes less about being "intimidated and helpless" and more about being "intimidated but also intimidating". The balance is subtle and superb, and it's definitely one of my all-time favourite games.
  12. Clever reinvention...?

Silly! Puu is going to be the follow-up machine.
  13. BioShock 2

I like the Big Sister design, myself. The Art Deco styling of the armour - plus those nasty-looking leg irons - suggest a complex and eerie character quite different to those in the first game. I wonder if the rumour mill's mistaken though; what if you're playing as a - or possibly even the - Big Sister? That'd certainly be interesting, and should be nothing like as lumbering or clunky as the Big Daddy was to play. Beginning to get that tingling anticipation I had when firmer details of the first game started to appear...
  14. Clever reinvention...?

If I could offer a third option; fucking retarded.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Just watched Waltz With Bashir; I need to get back into foreign language cinema again, because this was amazing -- not just the harrowing story or the film's striking visual style, but the score by Max Richter is also fucking fantastic. It's tough to watch, but I heartily recommend it.

Certainly do -- though the following was tantamount to heresy for many people: jLOuDbsJNaE Always makes me smile anyway. Topical Factoid Alert! David Elsewhere, the guy doing the dancing in that video, has spent the last few months teaching Michael Jackson how to dance like him. This is the only reason I have any remote interest in Jacko's forth-coming tour -- I couldn't care less otherwise. Anyway, on with the funny videos...

The last skit was the best I think.
  19. Resi 5

I think it's pretty much a certainty now that, given the likely critical sales success of Resi 5, you could expect to see games like Dead Space 2 ship with some sort of co-op mode. And I believe it could work, too. I've not played the original Dead Space or ICO - bear with me - but I think some sort of symbiotic co-op mechanic would work in a survival horror game. For example, one of you is the burly, gun-toting marine, whilst the other is a much more fragile (but not gun-less) engineer. Yes, I appreciate this could quite easily descend into the typical foulness of rote escort missions. But, with a little intelligence and some decent puzzles / action sequences, why couldn't it be fun? Anyway, back on the "RE5 co-op" side of things; I read last night that there is in fact a "Mercenaries" mode in Resi 5, which is very much like the co-op idea I was describing above -- including high score and time attack mechanics. So, I guess I owe Capcom one of these: Has anyone tried Mercenaries mode yet? And does its scoring system link into PSN / Xbox LIVE? Hope so -- that'd be nifty. Certainly not; he'd be much more discerning and grab a KTM!

Twas indeed I. Sorry I had to leave suddenly and unexpectedly. I had, er, other "duties" to attend to...
  21. Grand Thumb Auto XVII: Collector's Edition

HatchetJob mentioned yesterday, whilst we were consumately beating the stuffing out of each other in SFIV, that he now has TLAD and so may also join in tonight.
  22. Far Cry 2

No, there are no guns unlocked in the computer and nobody behind the cage. Pretty much resigned to the fact I'll have to start again. It's only an hour or so's gaming, but it destroys the immersion and the sense of newness and character development.
  23. Resi 5

You're still not convincing me. It sounds like Capcom were trying to be bold and capture rabid Western interest generally -- not just the belated reverie of Resi 4, but also in co-op gameplay and the massive uptick in multiplayer numbers anyway. Making the co-op gameplay secondary would've cost too much, assuming Capcom were to a) provide a single-player experience like that of RE4 as the core of the game, and replicate this near-identically for co-op play. I suppose they could've provided, say, a remixed version of 6-8 key single-player scenarios as the co-op mode. Then thrown in competitive stuff like time attack leaderboards for Live/PSN or what have you and it would have been pretty smart, perhaps. As it stands, it doesn't sound like a particularly satisfying game to play by yourself.
  24. Resi 5

The more I read about the partner AI in this game, it sounds like I'd want a "Push Barrel into River" command too.
