Grand Thumb Auto XXVIII: The Sequel to Grand Thumb Auto XXVII
Wrestlevania replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Agreed, the capture point games are great fun. The last time we played that mode and it was really fun I think we had 9 people split across 3 teams. So the flow of the game was nicely unpredictable and constantly shifting. I think we tried three groups of two a couple of weeks after that and it didn't really work. -
Grand Thumb Auto XXVIII: The Sequel to Grand Thumb Auto XXVII

I still find the dedicated RPG- and sniper-only deathmatches incredibly fun, myself. But I think we've a very tight rota of specific game modes (and settings) now that are consistently providing a lot of fun still. -
I think it looks like Sherlock Holmes will be a lot of fun to watch. Everything has to have an established platform to be popular at the moment it seems.

Grand Thumb Auto XXVIII: The Sequel to Grand Thumb Auto XXVII

I was driving the bus; I pulled over in first place, having dragged out a rather large lead, so wanted to spice things up again. Mercilessly torturing 'blix in his weedy little ice-cream van felt gooood (even if I didn't win because of it). Also twatting about trying to get on a motorbike with James, whilst being maniacally circled by the police, was another highlight. It later transpired that I'd been watching the wrong character hop on and off the bike, whilst thinking the game had glitched and wouldn't allow us to ride together. Oh and I think the reason we lagged so far behind, in the game where you lot bailed out of the chopper, was because I was crying with laughter at the stupid noises our police siren was making. Having cunningly detoured into a park overlooking where the crooks spawned, I crashed it into several small trees and - bizarrely - and elevated pipe. This crushed the lights on the roof, and so made the cop car siren sound like a Rolf Harris concert whilst under the influence of several illegal substances. Again: I am sorry for my fucking abysmal driving in team-based games. Grippage and I still kicked huge amounts of arse in our aquatic escape, though--that was amazing. -
Star Trek was very good; funny, smart and ambitious. We really enjoyed it.

To be blunt, the game's shit when just played with the computer and was never designed this way. The AI is only meant as a stand-in for empty multiplayer slots--and not meant to be the majority. Please, come join us! It's superb fun and it'd be great to have another fleshy. We played last night, but were perilously shit for reasons unknown and so couldn't complete Blood Harvest on advanced...

That's quality, OssK. Hope you had a nice day yesterday, Peely.

I very much enjoyed the second series, personally. Once I shifted my head into its very different setting and plot I thought it was no less compelling and "moreish" than the other 4.

Nonsense! I was out having a run in his honour. Next: toenails!

Grand Thumb Auto XXVII: Neo Grand Metal Theft Genesis Nova Pink

toblix, you merciless little fucker... -
You should try sitting down when you have a shit, old man. That's unless you've got one of those Plop-n-Go bags fitted already, in which case: fair play.

From the brief time I spent playing Shadow of the Colossus when visiting eljay some time ago, I absolutely loved it and have been trying to pick a cheap PS2 and copy of the game ever since. TRICO seems to have all those elements that made Colossus really stand out for me (solitude, melancholy, exploration and so on), so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out as a finished game. And, going out on a limb, if that's target footage of intended gameplay, to me it's looking pretty far developed already. (Commence beating me with sticks now!)

I've been thinking about this... I think the trick to setting up a good "GTA Race" game is to choose a track that's suitable for the vehicle class you're going to use. For instance, the ice-cream trucks work best on the heavily populated urban courses - regardless of circuit length - that have good straights but also tight turns. Because the Mr Tastys handle so badly, busy urban routes mean players are liable to overshoot turns, crash or get stuck amongst other vehicles quite often. This gives players lagging behind or recovering from previous mishaps a chance to easily get back in the running. Or casually grenade a fellow back-marker into oblivion--often several times over. Eh, James..? Conversely, if we're racing something like sports cars then a higher number of laps on short, fast courses that intersect themselves are best. Even if the field gets split up, for whatever reason, being in fast cars and constantly crossing back and forth over the same short stretch of road still gives you plenty of opportunity for mirth. And racing, because super-fast cars like the unFerraris and notLambourghinis make it easy to catch up if things go awry for you. Anyway, just my observations and feelings on Grand Thumb Auto (seeing as we've been playing almost every week for many months now). Feel free to ignore entirely. -

I must say, that was jolly good fun. I particularly enjoyed the part where I slowly ground TheJamesM to a paste, using my trusty bin lorry. The "far blips only" setting for deathmatches also made things much more fruity and exciting. I approve of your meddling with established formulae, 'blix. -
Now you mention it, I remember the grenade explosions going through the floor in the very early original Quake multiplayer beta...
-
Yeah, that does seem slightly twisted... "Quick, behind you, James! FUCKIN' RUUUU--only kidding."

Of course--after I shot you in the head for trying to get on my helicopter. So, the moral of this story is: don't drink and game. It makes no significant difference and you'd be better off saving for more RAM (or something). -
Maybe we could have a post-Grand Thumb Auto punch-up? I think you and I were meant to be taking a spin through The Club a while ago, too, Mike...
