MINERVA: Metastasis (a Half-Life 2 mod)
Wrestlevania replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Video Gaming
Steady there, gentlemen. Let's not get too liberal without the use of the spoiler tag, eh? Be a shame give away too much, given the couple of meaty twists later on. Aaand! ~hands on hips~ I'll have you know I was playing MINERVA before it even required any of the Episodes--so there! - Wrestle, the Mostly Unintentional Braggard Douche-bag -
If Mr Peel does go for it, I'd be quite interested in starting at the same time and comparing notes...

I got around to listening to a lot of Hollywood Saloon a while ago after your recommendation. They've not put anything new out for aaages though... As for other 'casts I listen to, Rum Doings is very entertaining and is comprised of RPS's John Walker and his equally eloquent friend Nick Mailer.

I've a suspicion that's why we get party drops when I'm hosting, as I'm only on a measly 1Mbit connection. -

Gosh! That is rather a bargain, what?! And yes, that is House many years prior to House. -
Scrobbs very kindly pinged me an invitation to play EVE a short while ago, but I still haven't plucked up the courage to try it... I fear it may just be a stretch too far for my obsessive-compulsive nature.

I am trying to find ze deals, but the chap who sold me 12 months + 1 month free last year is no longer trading. I'm genuinely touched by your immediate concern, however. -

OK FINE -
Is anyone else thinking Elite needs a browser-based update, with community high score table(s), like something the Flashbang guys would make? My idea would be that you're playing alone in your own instance, just like the original game, to keep things simple. But the community bit comes in via the high score and being able to form groups/clans and combine scores that way. You could do all sorts of stuff then, for example: most profitable individual+clan overall, best mining run today, most expensive single ship, most expensive fleet... all sorts of stuff, without making things horribly complex by introducing multiplayer! I think that'd be fucking awesome, personally--someone make it for me, now.

For those interested, the Half-Life 2 mod I was oralising furiously about was MINERVA: Metastasis. In case you missed my spiel, let me summarise: if you don't download and play this mod, you don't deserve to have opposable thumbs (idle or otherwise). It was good enough to get the young man that created it a job working on Portal 2 at any rate. Play it now! -

Someone should issue a tautology apology. Also my Gold membership just expired this morning. -
Could well be quite slow to move over, especially as the L4D1 map community is starting to take off. And Crash Course might well liven things up, too.
-
Anything's possible at this point I suppose. It would be just like Valve to fight it's corner (re. "it's a full game not an expansion") and then jovially announce that anyone with L4D1 can buy L4D2 for xx% off that opening week(end) on Steam. So... dunno.

So wrong. -
Not yet, but it's still planned for release at some point on Xbox 360. I think I'll probably get it on 360 too, as it doesn't play very smoothly on my current PC.

I see you've suffered under the mind-warping mantle of at least one data entry job as well then..?

Thanks for the tips. It's a fresh reinstall as it goes. I lost my last game (not that far in but completely trapped anyway) when I had to format my machine a while back. Just zipping up the "r2" folder in gamedata/shaders still leaves all the other Complete 2009 fixes and updates in place - including the new textures and weapons visuals - and just drops the new additional visual effects (like motion blur and so on). I think I'll just play it like that. You know, that's exactly like my PC. The case I mean...

Not to derail this thread entirely with technical issues, but I've tried those tweaks and I'm still seeing the Barcodes of Doom: Any other ideas?

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Apologies if I've dumped this factoid on here already, but I was introduced to Trentemøller a while back by some friends and have yet to find a bad track by him. Just superb progressive, minimalist Electronica with the odd vocal thrown in. He also appears to be pretty fucking good live, too: 7RqvPkByI1A Definitely check him out if you have even just a passing interest in acts like Portishead, Cinematic Orchestra or Royksopp. -
Oh thanks, ethan, I'll try those later. What do you think's causing the weird bars then? I don't have anything non-standard like "God rays" (caustic lighting) switched on, just what's set in the mod when you've unpacked it.
