Cheers. Had a shitty day at work, but lunch was very nice and am comfortably blobbing on the sofa with Mrs V this evening.
-
Looks like a very tidy project car. Not really my thing - not any more anyway - but that's really nicely done.
-
Thank you, thank you! You'll be pleased to hear that, against my better judgement (didn't like the original), I got Mass Effect 2 for my burfday. Oh, and a very nice "Number 1 Daddy!" mug. Mrs V and T will be at the office in about an hour to take me out to lunch, too.

Granted, the Escort should hopefully prove to be fun, and the Starion's an interesting inclusion. But the rest? Meh.
-
Seriously..? I couldn't be more underwhelmed if they'd filled it with single-litre bimbo boxes. Some absolute eye-sores in there, and none of them stand out from the raft of cars included with even the standard version of the game.
-
That's exactly why I'd like us to settle on fixed racing classes of sorts, because they're super-competitive then!
-
Wicked. I may not make tonight - pulling a lot of late evenings getting the production work done on a massive project at the moment - but Formula Thumb regulars should be on from the normal time anyway.

Very true. But it seems to me that the crux of OddMobb is search, and that it will revolve around a web-based hub.

That's not new discs, it's old hardware; the DVD drives in Xboxen seem remarkably frail. Back to the front: I'm officially naming our bonkers upgraded racers class as "F in the A". I'm sure you'll agree it makes perfect sense. I'm sorry I've not gotten around to clarifying classes and drawing up a rough shopping list of sorts (just to suggest the type of car to get, not the exact model, mods, etc.). Is having a few fixed race types to pick on something people want? I get the distinct impression others get as frustrated as me when we play ad-hoc and have to default to picking stock cars when you don't have something suitable in your garage.

Questions, questions... Why does this need to be another social network site? Wouldn't it be cleverer to build off the back of something with a massive userbase - like Facebook - to make it relevant? When you've found your nemeses, how exactly are you going to play? Will it be browser games, or will it be something approximating Steam and Xfire that lets you schedule matches in typical video-/computer games? Spending all day elbow-deep in such things, I'm certainly interested to see what exactly OddModd will offer in real terms. But, going by the patter above, I'm dubious as well. Definitely want to see more of this though, regardless--any news on where/how to sign up for the closed beta?

I noticed you seem to be racing in mainly "stock" (i.e. default setting) cars, Toblix - is that accurate? If it is, you should try using Quick Upgrade to push a particular car you like higher into the class bracket you're racing it in. I'm sure that's patronizing shit and you've been doing this all along. If so: my apologies. This week: It's likely I won't make it either, unfortunately. When The Road was first properly trailed last summer(?), I idly suggested on Twitter that myself and any other interested Bristol-way Twitterers should go and see it altogether. And I'm now being held to this - which is great! - but I want to go on a Wednesday because you can get 2-for-1 tickets then and I'm cheap/skint [delete as appropriate]. We were supposed to go last week, but I got snowed in and we had a birthday in the family too. So it's likely this week we'll be going to see it. But if I don't go, I'll see you on the grid!

I was so disappointed that that happened... really ruined what was becoming a close race.

Superb fun, again. Only low point for me was when my damned controller ran out of battery halfway around the Nurburgring, whilst I was making a concerted effort to catch Patters. Watching all that hard work quickly evaporate, helplessly pinballing off one Armaco after another before cruising to a stop on the grass verge, was spirit crushing. And no, I don't really get that Cat & Mouse mode either. I think we need to have some sort of light physical damage modelling enabled really, and the cats be in cars that are more nimble than the heavily-upgraded M3 I was sliding around all over the place in.

I'd like to update the dictionary definition of "properly mental" with these details and the accompanying photograph.

I done been collectin' people on that Twitter 'gain! Welcome to the forums, monkey!
-
Sorry, that was lazy/clumsy of me. I've sorted out the time zones in the OP now and added Eastern too. Am I ruining this by agonizing over the details..?

I wouldn't say "love," no. I'll confess to being a big autophile - and have been for years - but the racing's so good I don't think it matters if you "like" or "love" cars. Just as long as you enjoy going fast and seeing the lovely scenery whip past as you go--which it sounds like you do already. If you're intimidated about picking cars, it's pretty much why I was trying to come up with class-based races; you pick something you like the look of and then use "quick upgrade" to do the leg work. Beyond that, it might be a case of picking a specific type of car - like a 4x4, for example - but otherwise the class list in the OP (once firmed up a bit) should make it easy enough. I'm not suggesting we run a strict roster or anything--not at all. I'm just thinking of how we can make this varied and everyone be sure they've got a good selection of cars in their garages to race with. The more experienced/wealthy players could always loan or donate a car to newer players or those not sure about what to pick.

Having some sort of heritage cup race was something else I'd pondered; anything up to D-class as long as it was made before 1980. Can't see any reason not to do that, definitely. That could be a bit more tricky. I've been chatting with Infovore about swapping out engines/drivetrains, as it was a fairly horrible experience in the first two games. And I've only done one engine swap in #3 - with admittedly spectacular results - but I think we'd need to experiment a bit more with this first, see if it's reliable. It's a very big waste of credits, potentially, which could sour things somewhat.
-
Sounds like an excellent selection to me. And I think it's fair enough if people want to go for the Ram over the 4x4s in the same class; if they're all tuned the same it should still make for some close racing. That'd fit perfectly with the "Short Track" idea I was toying with; half a dozen laps around something fairly complex but short, like the Catalunya and Motegi short configurations. We should probably start making a shopping list... CARS!
-
That would be wicked; we could slot truck racing - to allow for the BMW and that massive Dodge - into the C-class races. They'd be pretty pacey then! Infovore was keen to have a one-model race, too--something like Toyota MR2s or Honda S2000s, but not hugely modified. That would be fun too I reckon.

Idle Forza 0x00: Is this going to be a thing that is?
Wrestlevania replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Gentlethumbs, I've taken the liberty of creating an official Formula Thumb thread of sorts, with details of what we want to race and where, etc. etc. Please jump in and share your thoughts and wants! -
Cheers, Pat!
-
Can I make a plea? We don't bother making tonnes of threads for the same event, please? I'm going to update the original with some ideas, I'm going to start a new, dedicated Formula Thumb thread, but yes; Wednesday night, 8pm UK / 1pm Canadian.

Very true--and the same.
