  1. Grindhouse (2007)

*bump* The official Grindhouse website has launched - and it's pretty good!
  2. Anachronox: The Movie

. . / Not that I'm interested in arguing about this crap, but the original DVD was released years ago -- it was a special edition that got released (for free this time) in August 2006.
  3. The Movie "Children of Men"

I actually thought Clive Owen did quite well in this one (for a change); his "style" seemed to me to suit the mood and motivations of his character quite well.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

I watched El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) last night - what a film! The settings were crammed with detail, the special effects and creature make-up were fantastic and the over-arching story really sucks you in. The acting was pretty much solid - without being exceptional - across the board, too. Best 2hrs I've spent in front of a (non-games) screen in a while. Also, it contains a surprising amount of gore and brutality for a film about fairies...
  5. Anachronox: The Movie

It did get a DVD release some years ago. But a special edition double DVD was released in August last year via BitTorrent, but the original tracker is down and I can't seem to find a decent alternative with many seeds. Torrentspy has barely half a dozen, but that's it for the usual suspects.
  6. Thunderbird or Outlook Express?

Put it this way: Thunderbird: Obscenely useful Gmail-like conversation threading, iCal compatability, and many extensions to make it do pretty much anything you need it to (within reason). lookOut Express: Getting fisted by a lazy, dirty old tramp with long broken fingernails and chronic herpes. Hmm, it's a toughy...
  7. Must-play PlayStation 2 games

Hold the bloody phones! Tesco (UK) have just announced that they've slashed eviscerated the price of the PlayStation 2 to a whiffling £49.99! Update: It is in fact Asda who will be cutting the price of PS2 consoles to £49.99 (approx. US$80 once you've stripped off the VAT), beginning tomorrow (Thursday 22nd February). No word on whether this will be a permanent price change or not, but I suspect it will be -- they've been pedaling many AAA PS2 titles for little over £20 for many months now, often chopping prices in half just a couple of weeks after release. Must... resist..!
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

(Possibly) Interesting Factoid: Hot Fuzz is based in a village just a couple of miles from where I live. It's so weird to see little local spots I know really well on a huge cinema screen, but also very cool.
  9. *gasp* He's asked The Question That Must Not Be Asked! Insta-ban!
  10. Does the Wii nead *real games* ?

I think Marek's right on the money here: just look at the diversity on the DS nowadays, and how developers have learned not to shoe-horn in pointless features just because the platform offers them. In fairness, it could be quite bewildering to developers, who are tasked by their publisher, to create a title for Wii without first having any real concept behind it.
  11. Play by Email games

Eurogamer's review makes for compelling reading. I've been after something like this for aaages. I think I've just cum...
  12. I'm bored, someone do something that entertains me.

And I suppose we shouldn't forget the latest dancing Internet fad, :
  13. Must-play PlayStation 2 games

I'm intending to pick one up once PS3 hits store shelves in reliable quantities, and people start ditching their PS2s en masse. Probably sometime early next year I expect (and I'm being serious here -- this isn't another low-blow at Sony).
  14. Must-play PlayStation 2 games

I really don't want to admit to wanting a PlayStation 2... and you're really not helping. Or you, Mr. Bishop.
  15. DS Games

Dawn of Sorrow is as kunzie described Aria of Sorrow, so if you want something with a little depth - and like roaming around collecting stuff - get that. If you prefer something more brutal and arcade like, go for Portrait of Ruin. They're both the prize gems in my DS collection though, so I'd recommend getting the pair anyway to be honest. There's also that rather spiffy Harmony of Dissonance/Aria of Sorrow double cart on GBA that's well worth picking up (but I haven't as yet).
  16. Holy crap holy crap holy crap. Ikaruga on 360!

Superb! XBox 360 is really turning into quite an arcade powerhouse it seems. I wonder if Treasure will be renewing Ikaruga's art assets for this release, considering it'll be playable on HD. I very much doubt it, but it would be nice all the same.
  17. Blog-engines?

Ah... that'd be where I went wrong when I tried it early last year then; I found the default theme a real quagmire to work with when trying to create my own template(s).
  18. Blog-engines?

Having used both Blogger and LiveJournal for a few years now (on and off) I prefer LiveJournal; there's a better sense of community and it feels more focussed and purposeful somehow. However, the LJ templating engine is quite a black art, so you may have more luck with Blogger - assuming you wanted to monkey with that sort of thing.
  19. DS Games

It's been bandied around several big discount mailing lists, so I would imagine Virgin have quietly pulled the listing. Shame.
  20. When was the last time you saw...

Right you are; this one lands on it's arse in the first few seconds and stays there. Ye Gods, have mercy on mine eyes and ears! How any of you could sit through more than 5 minutes of this dross - nevermind an entire series - is beyond me. You must have a superhuman crap tolerance threshold is all I can say...
  21. DS Games

Virgin Megastore (UK) is selling Advance Wars: Dual Strike for £9.99 delivered! Seems to be a possible 2 week lead time, however...
  22. Finally upgraded Windows

They won't, as long as Microsoft continues to push the PC buying public away. I'm adamant that all Vista will acheive in the mid- to long-term is catalyze development and uptake of alternative operating systems amongst the wider masses -- along with forcing MS to put all their applications online for free, and independent of the platform running them.
  23. Finally upgraded Windows

Conversely, I was told by an optician years ago that I was fortunate enough to have perfect vision. So I reckon this is a case-by-case thing. Fortunately, MS appear to have recognised this by providing a ClearType Tuner PowerToy for Windows XP. It might be worth having a fiddle with that to see if you can improve your displays.
