  1. PS3 SixAxis/rumble U-turn imminent?

I think the over-arching point right now is that Sony continue to dig themselves into a pit over PS3, after making an undeniably world-class console such as the PS2. It's the contrast between approaches past-gen and this-gen; it was in Sony's interests to settle this problem years ago, because it impacted on a significant portion of their hardware; namely, rumble. Fobbing people off with a hastily-announced replacement (SixAxis), whilst choking the courts with red tape for as long as possible, shouldn't have fooled anyone, much less generated any apathy for a company that, not so long ago, set an extremely high standard for the whole industry to aspire to. This is not some great, magnanimous gesture by Sony. It's a "climb-down" in the face of overwhelming odds and realising they've already fucked themselves over for the most part with their new console. They had to sort this out, because they needed a) some positive press (whoops), and to give people what they really wanted - i.e. rumble in the controller. If anything, I see this generation's maligned gimmick ending up being SixAxis--not Wiimote, as many pundits argued this time last year.
  2. Grindhouse (2007)

Anyone else spotted Grindhouse on the cinematic horizon yet? It's a collaborative effort by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, with its sole purpose seemingly to take mainstream cinematic gore and violence to the extreme. The film is apparantly split into two contrasting parts, with each director contributing a story. Rodriguez's is called Planet Terror and has the potential to become the quintessential modern day zombie flick no doubt. Meanwhile Tarantino's piece is entitled Death Proof and features Quentin's best-known fair; a menagery of freaks firing lots of very big guns at each other. I stumbled upon it purely by chance and I'm quite intrigued.
  3. Grindhouse (2007)

Similarly, I think Once Upon a Time in Mexico is a great comic book film. It should be added to the Definitely Not Shit list, too.
  4. PS3 SixAxis/rumble U-turn imminent?

Of course! "Now assume the position once more, General Public..."
  5. Reh Dogg

    Pffft, got nothing on .
  6. PS3 SixAxis/rumble U-turn imminent?

    I was being diplomatic.
  7. My mouth tastes of petroleum

Alternatively: scrape the inside of your mouth and make your own personalised chapstick.
  8. Happy Birthday to Nick! Also Evildonut!

May your returns be many in number and happy all.
  9. Battlestar Galactica Season 3

Can't speak for anyone else, but my enthusiasm for season 3 has bombed with episode 14 - I've still not been able to finish watching it... Update: Ho... ly... fuck..! The Baltar manifestation just turned up in the prison cell with Six, and my mind has officially melted.
  10. Post You Pic Thread

Don't bother with any of that - just use something like ImageShack and follow the instructions for posting in a forum once you've uploaded. You'll want the code that's something like this: {url=...}{img}http://.../myimage.jpg{/img}{/url} Note: The above example uses curly braces, instead of square ones, because the forum mangles the portion of the sample code otherwise.
  11. Post You Pic Thread

The only other decent online photo I have of T is this one, which I posted - somewhat randomly - about a month ago: He's just 5 days old in that shot.
  12. DS Games

Nicely done! I really should come and visit again, see your new palace.
  13. Post You Pic Thread

Thank you kindly. That's my son, T, about 2-and-a-half weeks old.
  14. Does the Wii nead *real games* ?

I can understand people being disappointed with the Wii's hybrid motion/traditional controls for Zelda*. But even Nintendo couldn't be expected to get something as revolutionary as motion control "right" with a first-generation title surely? I don't think this point leaves Nintendo with egg on their face, but I thin what it does say is people have high expectations for motion control--which is surprising, given how young a consumer technology it is. * I still haven't even seen a Wii yet, so I've no opinion on the subject.
  15. Command & Conquer 3 demo

Sounds bloody great to me! I didn't enjoy Generals all that much so C&C3 sounds like it redresses the balance--bring it on.
  16. Heroes in a half shell

I'm a Michaelangelo fan, personally. When I was a kid, I once made some nunchucks out of a length of fine plastic chain, a couple of fencing nails* and a broom handle sawn in half. I was the envy of every other kid in my area for about 4 whole days. * They're like regular nails, but U-shaped.
  17. Command & Conquer 3 demo

Top RTS Tip: Use the keys for camera movement (panning, rotation, elevation). It makes a huge difference and the game is much faster and more enjoyable to play as a result. You also stand something resembling a slim chance of actually fending off an enemy tank rush, too...
  18. Post You Pic Thread

*bump* The grand unmasking... Taken about two weeks ago.
  19. Command & Conquer 3 demo

Genius. I wasn't planning on downloading this but, having been raised on Red Alert 2 the original Red Alert game at numerous LAN parties years back, I probably should for posterity's sake. How punishing are the system spec's in real life though? I've a hunch my creaking Radeon 9800-powered laptop might not be up to it...
  20. Anachronox: The Movie

Anyone watched it? If so, what did you think? I've downloaded and watched Part 1 and it looks promising.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

    ...fairy nuff.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

That's not a faery, that's a frickin' elf - and everyone knows that they're evil bastards!
  23. Electronic Arts: the positive thread

    Bring back Trip Hawkins...
  24. The Movie "Children of Men"

In one scene early on, Michael Caine's character finishes a line with, "...now that woman can't make babies." But I wouldn't say that really makes it much clearer.
  25. Thunderbird or Outlook Express?

I thought Sunbird would have been rolled into Thunderbird by now - my mistake. Doesn't really matter; you can use the Lightning extension to get iCal support in Thunderbird anyway.
