  1. this is one hell of a longshot...

If so, I know a bit. But are we too late?
  2. Double Fine new game released!

Possibly, but I've never read those. Scouring my forum cortex, I think someone here may have used the Red Wizard as their avatar in the past.
  3. Double Fine new game released!

Question: Why do many of the characters seem naggingly familiar? (That red-robed wizard in particular.)
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

Fucking hell, that's an absolute travesty. Someone needs shooting for that - what a miserable ending for such a promising project! :\
  5. Double Fine new game released!

"Congratulations you are now a bastard" But you neglected to mention the physics.
  6. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

Thanks, but that might be a little tricky... /me points to signature
  7. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

On the subject of crashing (and BioShock software bugs in general), I'm getting some rather panic-inducing freezes when I do something interactive, like try hacking a machine of some sort. Not all the time, but at least once an hour or two. Last night though I had an all out crash; went to hack a vending machine in Gatherer's Garden (I've been on holiday since launch and only just got back Tuesday this week) and the game just locked up. I was expecting it to transition to the hacking mini-game, but nada. Just died proper and I had to switch the machine off via the button on the front of the console itself. Really irritating, as I lost about 30 mins exploring; also because the game auto-downloaded its first patch last night for me, too.
  8. Manhunt 2 - From AO to AOK

Maybe don't use the word "Europe" then.
  9. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

Get the demo, Mel. If you don't enjoy that then you won't enjoy the full game; it's a pretty damned good introduction, but the full game is massively more sophosticated and varied.
  10. Manhunt 2 - From AO to AOK

Riiight... I can really see the Germans welcoming Manhunt 2 - in any form - with open arms. And they won't be the only ones.
  11. Manhunt 2 - From AO to AOK

I'll be honest: this pleases me. Though I fear just how much content Rockstar have had to chop out of the original design. Fingers crossed there'll be some sort of in-depth interview about this somewhere online.
  12. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

The pause menu (on 360 at least) tells you how many Little Sisters have yet to be captured in each section/level. And you don't actually learn how to catch a Little Sister until midway through the second section--there are 3 Little Sisters in the first (i.e. demo) section of the game alone. The game also tells you that you can return to any area you like, in order to deal with any Little Sisters you may have missed previously, but I've not looked into how you do that yet. I'm hoping it's not through the wonderous mechanic of back-tracking...
  13. [name]'s Bioshock Review

"Score" indeed - thanks, vimes! To clear up the stupid mess I made; I got the Limited Edition version, which is the one in an embossed tin case. It's lovely:
  14. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

Yeah, they're a funny thing to be honest. MS have released just one or two really noteworthy examples themselves in my opinion. Their best was an exclusive version of their 'green circles' 360 branding, painted on their standard off-white, and it was a perfect match for the console. If I remember rightly, it was given out in extremely limited numbers at either E3 '05 or '06 and never made generally available (rather stupidly). Edit: Ah, found it! A friend has a very eclectic Viva Piñata faceplate, which is a little too "in your face" for me but it still looks great: Otherwise, I've seen very few faceplates I'd actually consider adorning my machine with.
  15. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

No. When the machine's switched on, all the games (two rows deep) come out and the door of the cabinet is left open. The cabinet is also vented at the back, which is good because my stereo (slightly in shot in the first image of the second batch) belches out heat too. And I've had no problems up to this point, not a squeak... Though I'm sure the MS Gremlins are carefully scrutinising all such threads and updating their plans as I type...
  16. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

Added a proper detail shot [see above].
  17. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

The 360 faceplates are actually more substantial than you might first expect. They're actually an entire front facia with metal-sprung port doors. Here's what the 360 looks like when you've pulled it's face off - note the regular slots down either side, which is where the mounting fins on the faceplace are gripped: This particular faceplate is black plastic with the metal flake design painted over the top: Up close, the detail is so precise I was actually expecting it to be rough to the touch: But it's just part of the exceptionally good paintjob.
  18. MGS4: Kojima loses his marbles?

Anyone else thinking this is looking more and more ridiculous just plain stupid? I'm left with nothing but thoughts of Hideo Kojima presents Final Fantasy at this point.
  19. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

If it's all the same to you, I'd rather you didn't post a photo of the end result...
  20. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

I took a snap of the faceplate Blockbuster threw in: Sure it's not as elaborate as the special faceplates Irrational / 2k Boston sent to their favoured few, but I still like the 'rusted water tank' effect of mine.
  21. Double Fine

For those interested, Psychonauts gets the Zero Punctuation treatment over at The Escapist this week. Here's a highlight: I've really enjoyed these little tirades to date, starting with the pre-Escapist goodies hosted on YouTube.
  22. BioShock - They weren't kidding...

So far, I'm about 30 minutes past where the demo ends and it's absolutely incredible. I found the demo completely captivating, but, with the "proper" pacing of the full title, it's even better.
  23. Preordering?! More like prewhoredering!

Well, my last two games were both pre-orders - from Blockbuster, if that matters - and had no problems whatsoever. In fact, my wife went to collect my copy of BioShock this morning and Blockbuster had thrown in a limited edition BioShock faceplate and dropped the price, so got a partial refund too. Unexpected extra swag and money back?! Fuck-yeah I'm sticking with pre-orders!
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Thanks, Dan. I'll stick with it for the moment then. On the plus side: the new series of Saxondale starts tonight on BBC2. Didn't get further than the first couple of episodes last time around, but I'll give it a second chance--just for Thrik.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

OK, sparky, here's the deal: Season 1 of Heroes started airing officially in the UK about a month or so back, and last night we got to see episode 6. But I'm terribly vexed... Please, could someone tell me when my trousers are supposedly meant to burst into flame with amazement? Because as of right now, Heroes is so eye-rollingly predictable and simplistic, I've no impetus to continue watching at all. Which makes me very pissed off, because there's fuck-all else to watch and I really wanted to like this series.
