  1. American Mc Gee's Grimm

I played the first episode, completely pessimistic and ready to bash it, and it wasn't as bad as I had expected. It felt, all in all, like a sold-out Alice. The combat was replaced with accessible arcade-style play, the deep storyline replaced with short, easy-to-swallow episodes, and the darkness replaced with a Saturday-morning-cartoonish immaturity. I liked the art style, and American McGee definitely has a distinct feel to his games, as well as interesting level-design. I'd play it for free but I'd never pay for it, and Alice is still his magnum opus.
  2. Games with musical numbers

FF8 had a funny moment where you had to choose instruments for a musical number, and depending on which combinations you chose, a romantic moment either goes well or poorly. Conker was an amazing game, and the musical fight with the sludge monster was definitely the highlight. One game that had a musical moment: Guitar Hero.

On In Bruges, I just saw it this past week as well, and also had mixed feelings. I actually liked the way it was written, shot, acted, I just grew sick of the midget jokes, to the point where it actually took away from my enjoyment of the movie. And somehow the last scene with Ralph Fiennes didn't seem satisfying enough to me. It wasn't enough of an ending...?
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

It got me pumped up, but I read the graphic novel a month or so before seeing the trailer, and when Alan Moore said it was unfilmable he definitely wasn't just being pretentious. So much of Watchmen is the many converging storylines, with multiple events being told simultaneously in a single frame, to the point where simply retelling the story is almost missing the point completely. I heard Terry Gilliam wanted to make it, and frankly I'd trust him with it more than Snyder. Wasn't crazy about 300... Still, I like the feel of the trailer. It has that glossy, super-slick comic-book feel. Completely different note, I just picked up Silent Shout by the Swedish band The Knife. Really cool.
  5. THE MEDIC IS REAL.

    No accent though... Uncanny.
  6. Zero Punctuation

I used to regularly read the Double-Fine Action Comics by Scott C. Absolutely hillarious, and interesting in that they don't fit into Yahtzee's webcomics formula. Start from the beginning though... Also, check out SMBC-comics.
  7. Battlestar Galactica Final Season Thread

I actually wasn't crazy about Razor, just because: Yeah, as of now, I can't stand more than a few minutes in the suit. The leather gets really chafes.

What'd you think of the boxing episode? That definitely one of my 5 favorites of the show. The painting is very good. I've recently been experimenting with Gimp, but I can't do much with it. I don't have a tablet and I'm used to pencils and pens. What'd you use?
  9. Spore demo leaked

I figured out the problem: I was saving the image files to my desktop and dragging them from there. For whatever reason I had to drag them directly from the browser window.
  10. Spore demo leaked

Does the drag and drop PNG thing work with the free editor too? I've tried dropping a couple into the new creature screen and nothing happens...
  11. Stop bumping old posts, you dick

We've had a bunch of threads bumped recently by spammy members. Ikky something or other advertising Wow gold. Classy.
  12. Limbo Of The Lost: EPIC FAIL

I love how they credit Oblivion and don't even dignify Limbo with the title to the gallery. I watched the making-of and my gods, someone needs to curb this exaggerated advertising lingo. I'll give them permission to use the words "Real-time shadows" and "Graphics", but "All star cast of characters"? What does that even mean? edit: I got to a point in that gallery where I tried to guess the game each screenshot was based on. Quite fun.
  13. Limbo Of The Lost: EPIC FAIL

Here. Even the name was stolen.
  14. Limbo Of The Lost: EPIC FAIL

I can see the developers being Ed Wood types who only want to get their vision out at whatever the cost. I wonder if any locations weren't stolen from other games...
  15. Spore demo leaked

Any word yet as to whether you can make a creature that actually flies or swims?
  16. Spore demo leaked

Oddly, I think in the US, you only get $5 out of $10 back.
  17. Spore demo leaked

Finally! I'm officially re-excited for Spore. Thanks for the link!
  18. Battlestar Galactica Final Season Thread

That would still be very cool. Because at one point, I'm almost positive they said all five were in the fleet. And now the fifth isn't. Hmmm.
  19. I remain a dedicated computer gamer, and the excitement surrounding MGS4 as inspired me to dig up an old copy of MGS2, otherwise known as "the one I can play".
  20. Battlestar Galactica Final Season Thread

Yeah, I loved this last episode. Jane Espenson rocks. I'm glad the romance between Adama and Laura was finally established, and this was the most interresting episode for Baltar of the entire season. I was watching with a friend, and we'd been joking about how bad it would be if the episode's trailer had given away the identity of the final cylon. So the whole episode is leading up to D'Anna and Rosalyn being in the same room together and finally she says the line, and my friend shouts out "JK" just before she starts to laugh. I thought this episode was Season 2 good.

Thats whats so great about him! He seems so inhuman and above it all, and then he has these really human moments which sort of break the spell. The problem with this episode was that we've already been disillusioned, so the whole larger-than-life thing doesn't work as well anymore.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

The idea of establishing the time period by having the main character have chance brushes with historical figures and events. The 30's and 40's were dominated by Hitler and the Nazi party, while the 50's marked the first real decade of the Cold War.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

    Haha, very well put.
  24. Planet Earth (BBC)

I got the standard DVD of Blue Planet two birthdays ago, and it's spectacular. I'm sure blu-ray helps with these documentaries, though. Anyway, I haven't seen Planet Earth yet, but Blue Planet is incredible.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah. The aliens were ridiculous and the whole first sequence was unbelievable, but it was fun, and rewatching Raiders and the Last Crusade (Temple of Doom was pretty bad), the new Indy hasn't gotten any hammier or unbelievable. The whole sequence was the equivalent of having Hitler sign his father's journal in the third movie, and the deaths, even though they've gone from being stop-motioned to CG'ed, haven't gotten any less believable or over-the-top. My complaint was just that they had to introduce to the formula, but it certainly didn't ruin the movie.
