  1. Wuhuuu Grid Wars!!!

Why pay for the XBox version when the PC version actually improved upon it. Plus, people like me who don't own an XBox have nothing else to do. People clone games all the time. This happens to be an awesome game. Not that I'm an advocate for piracy, but sometimes, as in the case of GridWars, we can make "exceptions". Anyway, really fun, and all the bugs and dissappointing features of the Xbox version have been removed. It's not like this guy's trying to cover up the fact that he makes clones. People do that all the time. How many Tetris clones do you know? This one just happens to be a more current game and is therefor a bigger issue, I understand.
  2. I stepped in some Knytt

OOO I love this game. My friend introduced me to it a week or so ago and I just sat down in the middle of homework and beat it in 1.5 hours. Its huge, and great replayability. I just love how much there is to see...
  3. Painting my room

I agree. Grim Fandango is probably my favorite adventure game ever and that year is most definately my favorite. I loved the sleazy, noir-esque style of it. And the cat races? Mannn, good times. But if we're talking Rubacava, my favorite location was always either the kitty gambling place (especially the seating section where you deal with Domino) or the morgue. Come to think of it, my favorite locals overall though were in the last year (Hector's Casino and the florist's hideout).
  4. Painting my room

by the way, who made the original Idle forums wrap?
  5. Painting my room

I dunno. Somehow I think the simpler the better. DotT works because it's essentially pretty basic shapes. I also think Asteroids would be cool to do, just for simplicity's sake. Or, if you wanted to go complex, how bout the cast of Grim Fandango?
  6. ICO.

Link's broken. But I found the play and it's really great. I love the line: "A dream to meat! How strangely appropriate, that we should be meat's dream." Very clever stuff. Here's the video: Meat
  7. ICO.

I haven't played Ico yet, but I'm in love with Shaddow of the Colossus, and I agree, part of it's magic is that you feel empathetic towards the giants. The emotion doesn't come in the infrequent cutscenes but in the gameplay itself, which is a mark of extreemly good writing and art direction. The fact that you're killing the lumberring beasts selfishly and unnessicerily really gives the love story a bittersweet edge. Your character is kind of like the villain in a way, when you look at so many movies and stories in which the antagonist is the character who destroys needlessly and recklessly for love, and the protagonist is the person who can transcend the unneccissary bloodshed and accept love in whatever form it presents itself. Utterly off topic, what is this from:
  8. Wii titles?

New review for monkey ball said that it was basically the same thing over and over again, but it was so damn fun you could play it forever.
  9. Wii titles?

I'd like to say don't get excite truck. It got terrible reviews, much to my dissappointment. It got a 6.8 and a 3/5. My advice is, get Zelda and Red Steel. Monkey Ball of course is always fun, and with the new controls it'll be a blast. But Excite Truck looks alot like Blood Wake to me, a lower-quality launch title that will be fun for a few days and then get completely forgotten.
  10. Children of mana is shit

    Hey, Alice was pretty incredible.
  11. Gears of War Hype?

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you there. Despite how fun this game looks, the commercial was just flat-out pretentious.
  12. Mario Galaxies: Excited or Not?

Everyone's seen the trailers and demos for Mario Galaxies on Wii already I'm sure, and if you haven't, here's a link to a couple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lasiEczS2XE&mode=related&search=super%20mario%20galaxy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3EUPHe_n9Q&mode=related&search=super%20mario%20galaxy We know it will look beautiful, we know it will be extreemly innovative, and it appears to be easy to control. So my question is, is this Mario? I never played Sunshine, so I don't know how these compare, but Mario 64 was so classic because it was a relatively simple concept: the original 2D Mario world in 3D. It was complex without straying too far from the original concepts which made Mario so appealing in the first place. Looking at this new Mario game, I can't help thinking that it's not familiar enough to be a satisfying Mario game. There's the occasional Bullit Bill or Goomba floating about, but it seems the tubes that made Mario a plumber in the first place have been all but bannished from this edition and theres simply not enough gameplay, it seems, besides jumping around a seemingly limited universe-world and fighting bosses, which are also pretentious and sadly dirivitive. The artistic style, also, seems lost in an organic, space-themed world that's one part Kirby, one part Worms Mayhem, and one part Prey. I hope Mario Galaxies proves me wrong, because Mario 64 was one of my favorite games of all times and I'd hate to see the series take this new direction, but I can't help wanting more (or is it less?) from the clips that have been surfacing on the net.
  13. Cylons in C&C3!

I have to say I'm all for FMV. It made the original games. I don't know why it was ever dropped. In my oppinion, animated cutscenes can take you out of the game, since the game might be trying to feign reality and fudge it up, as in Generals. Command and Conquer and Emperor: Battle for Dune had great videos that could either be taken as part of the story line or as hillarious bonuses. Either way, I think they moved the game along. As to whether or not they belong in current games, i'd say no, unless we're talking about an adventure game with intigrated FMV (as in Myst) or a CnC game
  14. Stop motion advice

I've been into stop motion film for a while but have been making videos using Windows Movie Maker, which gives a reeeaaallly slow frame rate. Does anyone know of any free ways to make better stop-motion movies?
  15. I'm out of touch... [Final Fantasy on GBA/DS]

I, personally, love the later FF games for their story telling and visual creativity. I'm playing FFVIII now and love it, and the art for X and XII looks incredible.
  16. Distract Yourself

You've gotta get into Japanese freeware games. They're so many of them that are retail-quality and free for download. First of all, CAVE STORY is probably one of THE BEST Action/RPG I've ever played. Ever. Honestly, it's up there with Ocarina of Time. It made a huge splash on the indie-games-cicuit a year or so ago. 5+ hours of gameplay with multiple weapons and endings, characters and an wildly imaginative plot. Just be sure to download it with the English translation. Then, from the same creator as Cave Story, theres a whole bunch of other great games such as Ika-Chan, a mini-rpg with beautiful 2-D graphics about a squid, and Megane, a neat time-waster where you have to catch glasses on your face. Also with multiple endings, even though it takes about 2 minutes (if that) to beat. OK. Hikware! Their blockbuster was Warning Forever, which became popular also in America a year or so ago. It's a replayable shoot-em-up, as you have the oppourtunity to determine the ways in which you're enemy evolves by playing the game differently. Everything you ever wanted to know about WF ishere. Other notables are Ray Hounds, another popular shmup, and Fric, and addictive, albiet weird game testing your ability to move the mouse as fast as possible in various mini-games. All the best games are in the Japanese downloads section. More good shooters: rRootage Grid Wars 2 (this one's English. It's a very complex and interresting game, read the review) Mogura Reverse, in which you play a flying mole. This is an incredible game. Torus Trooper The old DOS game I wasted hours on when I was younger and more naive, Secret Agent by the late, great Apogee, famous for Commander Keen and Wolfenstein 3D. I still love this one. Ok just a few more... The Dismount Games, my favorite by far is Truck Dismount, although Stair Dismount made a bigger splash on the internet. Good old fun with physics. Within a Deep Forest Siroi Danmakukun, which allows you to practice your vertical 2-D shooter evasion skills against hundreds of bullet-patterns. Check out a video here and try to beat these top scores. RoX, similar to a certain Shockwave game with a monkey I can't remember the name of; comes with a level editor. Cloudphobia is a pretty game. Rumble Box Scorched Earth, another highly replayable and timeless DOS game; the "Mother of all Games". And of course, Super Mario War!!! I downloaded them all apparently without incident and I checked up on all of them on Wikipedia and Home of the Underdogs etc. to see if there were any warnings, and I found none. Plus many of these game's are well-known and ahve been featured on indie-game websites and in some cases magazines. In any case, I'm basically saying I trust the internet enough to use it without fear myself, but just barely. So just check what you're downloading, etc. But I've played all these games and they're great. Reply if you know of any problems with any of these games/links. These should keep you occupied at least until tomorrow.
  17. I'm out of touch... [Final Fantasy on GBA/DS]

Anyway, I'm not well versed in the Final Fantasy series, but this is the advice I can give you. From oppinions I've heard, people actually live different stretches of the series depending on where they started playing. The hardcore, original fans who started with good old Final Fantasy 1 were turned off by the new direction FFVII took, and gamers that started with the 3-D FFVII believe FF 1-6 are too traditional and prefer the cutscene-laden goodness of VII-. (FFIX seems to be equally popular and unpopular with both groups, since it takes the series back to it's "roots".) The point is, you have to either be open-minded and play through the whole series or come in where you think it looks as though you'll like the series the most. Start with I if 2-D classic RPGs do it for you and go with VII and on for a more visual and story-driven experience.
  18. Bad games that are good

Bumper-wars from alien-ware.(honestly, since when does alienware make games?)
  19. Mario Galaxies: Excited or Not?

I see your point, but I just think Mario can evolve without trying to be too much. That was more what I was trying to say. I'm just worried since it's called galaxies and I've seen at least three boss fights on YouTube that have been staged on said planetoids, so...
  20. chain letters

a girl died in 1933 by a homicidal murderer. He buried her in the ground while she was still alive. The murderer chanted,"toma sota balchu" as he buried her. Now that you haveread the chant, you will meet this little girl. In th middle of the night she will be on your ceiling. She will suffocate you like she was suffocated. If you post this, she will not bother you. Your kindness will be rewarded
  21. Grindhouse (2007)

Im not sure I understand the duel trailer concept... The second movie with Danny Trejo will be made and include a false trailer for Rodriguez's movie? Anyway, it looks strangely stylaized. I'd like to say I'm offended, but the violence looks at lot better handled by Rodriguez and Tarantino than, say, whoever made that crap movie Hostel. As long as a movie doesn't take itself too seriously, it can frankly do whatever it wants and be acceptable.
  22. Where's the FF love?

Funny, I heard quite the opposite. Everyone was giving it incredible reviews and it was supposed to one of the best RPGs ever according to quite a few magazines.
  23. Defcon? More like...um, Defacon!

Yeah! You had to stop some killer asteroid from obliterating Earth in three days or something. Good stuff. Anyway, at one point, you have to work out the trajectories of a rocket. And there's buttons for Ready, Launch, and Lunch. And if you hit Lunch you hear the sound of someone eating carrots or something. http://cgi.ebay.com/Bill-Nye-The-Science-Guy-Stop-The-Rock-PC-Game-Boxed_W0QQitemZ200033412717QQihZ010QQcategoryZ62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
