  1. The Movie "Children of Men"

I know. I had the same reaction to the movie title, but that's the only interpretation that could make sense to me. But my friend's mom had the same oppinion. The name in itself is kind of sexist, I guess. Calling it Children of (Men or Women) would have in some way drawn a sexist comparison. I'm no sexist. Do you have a better explanation?
  2. Does the Wii nead *real games* ?

The game was in development originally as a Gamecube game, and I believe, though I could be wrong, that porting it to Wii was a last-minute decision. The Gamecube controls had been mapped out long before the Wii version.
  3. The Movie "Children of Men"

On a different topic, lets all discuss what we think the name Children of Men means. I thought it was referring to a world born from men, hinting at the violence and chaos. Children of women would be children brought into a caring world where they were wanted and loved. Children of men are the hardenned, brutal adults portrayed in this movie. The new baby-less world is a "child of man", a product of the brutal and barbaric facet of humanity, and therefore a world unfit for any newborn children.
  4. The Movie "Children of Men"

What was the stork joke again? I thought Michael Caine was brilliant anyhow. I especially like the description of his (by some reviewer or someone) as the last happy person in the world. I thought that was just such an amazingly profound description of his character. I did pick up a certain Half-Life 2 vibe from it. Not through the entire movie, but: (spoiler) when they are rowing the boat out into the ocean from that sewage pipe reminded me of Half-Life's frequent dock/canal stretches. Also, there's the whole European flavor of both the game and the movie. My favorite part: (spoiler) When the two walk out of the building holding the baby and there's silence. It shows that the enemy isn't just a faceless killing machine. Everyone in the movie wants something, and it's when their interests collide that you have conflict. The soldiers just want to get paid, or maybe put down the rebellion if they're really patriotic. The insurgents want the baby for their cause. Anyway, what was actually favorite part came when the bomb went off and everyone instantly started firing at the building again. Something about it really moved me. Kind of like there's no resolution to the endless combat even when noone wants to continue to fight. I'm not sure I can verbalize what that scene did for me, but it was a nice, warm feeling I haven't had in a movie theater for a long time.
  5. Does the Wii nead *real games* ?

Agreed. Playstation may have had brand recognition and some good rhythm titles for older players, but you can never beat Nintendo for mass appeal and all-around wholesome fun. That would be so nice. I really wish they made an effort to adapt older games to the motion sensitivity. Classic Sim City from the VC is one example that sounds particularly appealing to me.
  6. Does the Wii nead *real games* ?

I too am with Rodi. While Nintendo had always been the most family-friendly and socially-oriented system (with the arguable exception of XBox with Live), I'm afraid Nintendo is going to forget that some people simply want the next generation of gameplay very familiar to them, not an entirely new, exclusively social experience. Games like WarioWare and Rayman RR are perfect examples of how party games work infinitely better on the Wii than previous systems, Nintendo or otherwise. However, Monkeyball obviously tried to be too much of a party game itself, and sometimes, that's just not what the customer is looking for. With that said, there are plenty of upcoming games both "serious" and "casual", including Super Mario Galaxy, Paper Mario for the Wii, Mario Party, Dewey's Adventure, Fire Emblem, FF: Crystal Chronicles Wii, etc., so I wouldn't say there's a deficit of either style of game. My main concern is that developers forget that it's not absolutely necessary to use the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii in every game. Thankfully, Zelda used these controls fairly nicely, but I don't always want to shake the controller around to do tasks that would in fact make more sense to perform with a simple press of the A button.
  7. A Thread About The Nintendo Wii

I think I'm probably the only person in the world who didn't enjoy Rayman. It felt too me like the minigames weren't engaging enough to try to shave any real time off of, and the dancing minigame, compared to Guitar Hero and other better-done rhythm games, just felt silly. I love Warioware and am also looking forward to the new Mario games (Galaxy, Paper Mario, etc.) I'm also hoping, perhaps unrealisticly, for some good, stylish Japanese RPGs made from 2nd party companies. I'm hoping the PS3 does badly enought that Square etc. invests in the Wii. I think they said something about it earlier this year. But either way, I'm also looking forward to FF:Crystal Chronicals for the Wii.
  8. I Bought an Xbox 360 Today!

My friends and I have been obsessed with Guitar Hero II for PS2 ever since my friend got it for Christmas. So my other friend told me the other day that he bought Guitar Hero II for PS2 and I was dumbfounded. My friend owns a 360, and my innitial reaction was: why waste your money on a game we can already play when in about a month you can get a version that looks to be far superior in every song- and graphic-related aspect of the game.
  9. That is an incredible "More like". Probably my favorite. You should have posted that thread title anyway even if you technically could have posted in an existing thread, I think this one had to be heard. I can't talk about this without thinking about the Posting and You flash on AlbinoBlackSheep a few years ago.
  10. Am I a bad person if I never actually played the game myself, but watched it beaten at a friend's house?
  11. General Rant? More like... Perennial Plant! Sorry that was so bad, but I couldn't resist.
  12. Steam Hates Me ;(

I don't think there's any way to play Half Life 2 offline, right? It's kind of funny how people cite the fact that an MMORPG lasts only as long as it's server in support of more traditional gaming experiences, and yet it seems this problem has leaked it's way into even single-player games. I understand the whole copy/piracy protection mentality behind it, though, and I'm not going to lie, I actually like the interface and think it makes the whole gaming/shopping/media-sharing experience alot easier and more convenient. But in cases like these... You should definately be able to have the option to use Steam, just like when it was first introduced for CS.
  13. Oh no! Well, it's practically all tied up again. We just need one more person to vote for 113.
  14. You know what's fun to do? Count backwards nine months to estimate when you were concieved. It gives you some interresting insight into how you came about.
  15. PS3 actually costing LESS than a Xbox 360

I think the PS3 is just so much more intimidating because it requires you to buy everything at once. It's a huge gamble. If blu-ray loses the war to be come the DVD's successor, and it's too early to tell, your investment in the PS3 is virtually meaningless, aside from the fact that you can play games which, so far, have reportedly been leaving the majority of the blu-ray disc data-less. From an all-around perspective, it would be safer to buy a 360, pay for the online service (which has always been Microsoft's edge-up on it's competitors quality-wise) and wait to invest in high-definition discs or one kind or another.
  16. AHH! Sorry for breaking the all-around tie! I didn't know it was so until after I voted. Page: 132
  17. All the Zelda Games?! More like MODERATED FTW

I thought the big draw to Majora's Mask was that with the N64 expansion pack, the graphics were updated and beautified as much as possible for the system.
  18. All the Zelda Games?! More like MODERATED FTW

Without bashing your own oppinions or using this as an opportunity to ruthelessly promote my own, Ocarina of Time probably turned me on to fantasies in the first place and continues to keep me dissappointed with games that don't live up to it's standards 9 years later.
  19. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

It's not totally geared towards kids. There are alot of suggestive or subtle adult jokes in there too. I'd say "all ages" is more appropriate. And I'd rate this as a buy, just because it's a party game at heart and you'd want to have it handy whenever friends are over. When I think rental, I think of primarily single-player games that you can beat once and be done with.
  20. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

  21. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Yeah. Just beat it twice today in the span of about 4 hours . So much fun. The longevity really is in multiplayer, my friends had a blast. Theres a bunch of interresting spins on it, and all involve passing around the wiimote. There's simple elimination, and theres one that's quite fun, where if you win a game, you chose who to pass it to and what "form" they'll use. But there's some awesome stuff to keep you going in single player too. For anyone who's curious, I think this is most of the unlockable single-player stuff (SPOILERS): So yeah. Lots of replayability there, for single- and multi-player. Plus, the same 200 microgames get harder and harder as you play more and more (requiring that you do more things within the 5 seconds, etc.), so the learning curve is there. I love it.

If I was really out of my mind, I'd suggest we all post our numbers in numerical order. But that's only if I was absolutely hopelessly stark-raving mad. I'm not sure if that's even possible to know...
  23. An important question about Vampire: Bloodlines

I can't speak for the game itself, I just remember hearing it was dated as soon as it came out, due to limitations on the use of the engine by Valve. But you're absolutely right about the theme-song/Massive Attack similarities. The two are even in virtually the same key.
  24. Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Huzzah! I just waited in the cold for an hour this morning to get a Wii. Finally! Anyway, I picked up Warioware, since I saw some YouTube videos of it and it looked amazing. Best Buy's really revamped their Wii-getting protocol after all the conroversies with people hurting themselves and others, etc. etc. They did well this time around. I was surprised. They even let us wait in the warm vestibule for the second hour!

Yeah. I usually can't smell anything BECAUSE of snot.
