  1. Does anyone think this system sounds like the one they're using in Mass Effect? Thats the first thing I thought of: Real-time combat that in actuality is as slow-paced and micro-managed as you need it to be, classic RPG style.
  2. Starcraft 2

I'm really excited about the announcement by Blizzard that this game would do innovative things with altitude and fog-of-war. This means that ground units will only reveal the areas of the map on the same level of ground as they are. That would be incredible. They can do so much.
  3. Starcraft 2

    I hope so.
  4. Starcraft 2

I have only 2 things to say: 1) is that I admire Blizzard for waiting until they had something to show us before releasing information about Starcraft 2. I hate when developers get excited about a new game and announce it years before it's ever finished. At least we have something tangible to talk about as opposed to just gossiping about what-ifs. 2) I really, really hope that they deal with ballance better than CnC 3 did. Maybe it's because I used to play Starcraft all the time, as opposed to the CnC series, but I felt like NOD and GDI in CnC 3 were just simple reskinnings of the same vehicles. The tech trees were extreemly similar: for example, each faction had the super infantry guy who was immune to tiberium. It felt like they tried to match the factions 1 to 1, whereas the original Starcraft was great because the races played so differently. A single Zergling would be slaughterred by a single Marine, but a Marine was more expensive and took longer to build. Even at the first teir, the units had to be thought of differently. Other unique abilities and constructions, like the Zerg nydus canal, the sheilding powers of the Protoss, and the Terran's freedom with construction made each race radically different. I hope Starcraft 2 doesn't do what CnC: 3 did and eliminate that aspect of the game.
  5. Vending machine conspiracy continues!

I loved Deus Ex. Probably my favorite game of all time, along with Grim Fandango. I have since lost the disc, but on steam its only $10 now, so I'm thinking of playing through it again. Gah that was an amazing game.
  6. I may be totally mistaken, and I'm far to tired right now to do any actual research, but I thought i heard somewhere of some company/person offerring the makers of Forever some kind of bonus sum of money if they could finish it within some deadline, recently. The paragraph above appears to make no sense but I assure you I heard something like that.
  7. Stupidest idea ever?

Ah! Ok, good. Me too! The Wikipedia had some reviews of it up somehow, and I just assumed I had missed it. I guess it's only out in the UK: "Sunshine placed 4th at the UK box office, achieving one million pounds on its first weekend in the UK.'
  8. Stupidest idea ever?

Did anyone see Sunshine yet? I don't think it ever came out over here in the US. I saw the trailer a while back and thought it looked great. It looked similar to 2001, in the way it was shot. Should I rent it?
  9. Two extremely short animations

Cute. I loved the first one, and the music was great for both.
  10. Get BG&E for free!

Umm, do I see Deus Ex on that list. In my opinion, that was the best first person shooter and the best RPG ever created. While it may not be best to order from this cite, I recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it yet. Absolutely groudbreaking. Eveything about it was just...
  11. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars™

That would be incredible. Wow that's a brilliant idea! You could even do like a risk-like element where you capture territories on a huge, non-contiguous world map but fighting battles that other armies could join in any time. And then diplomacy would be handled real-time in the world-view in a similar style to the Total War series. Holy shit that would be incredible. I'd also love to see a true strategy FPS game in the same vein as the Natural Selection mod for Half Life done professionally, and maybe on a grander, RTS scale. We could have both an MMORTS and an MMORTSFPS, IMHO. (LOL).
  12. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars™

I never really understood the point of playing RTS's on consoles. I tried Starcraft when it was out for N64 years back and it wasn't intuitive. For me, that seems like logical PC domain, even moreso than FPS's. That's why I'm interrested in the new Halo RTS they're talking about. Supposedly it was designed for the console specifically and had a really helpful and intuitive control scheme. I want to see how that manifests itself.
  13. GTA IV trailer

Haha. True. Well, there's always this.
  14. GTA IV trailer

I don't know. I didn't get excited about the originality (since it's pretty derivative of NYC anyway) but about the idea of a real-life city the size of NYC being a complete, believable in-game world for the first time ever..
  15. GTA IV trailer

I totally agree. I think it would have been cool to see it set in a real-life city. Kind of a symbolic graduation of sorts from last gen when it wasn't quite possible to build a massive realistic city on the blueprints of existing ones. What I saw from the trailer is that it was the game Rockstar always wanted to make but were unable to due to last-generation limitations. And how about that sign advertising tickets to Vice City for $300.
  16. How excited are you about gaming right now?

My score of 4 is not because gaming isn't that exciting right now. Quite the contrary in fact. I've got a Wii and a fairly nice PC and everything is looking great right now. It's just that homework is once again a huge pain in the ass and I really don't have the time. It kills me to have a Wii upstairs and know I can't put any real time into it for the next few weeks
  17. Super Paper Mario

I did a bad thing and watched the movie about a year ago, before I got into the show. I love Firefly though. It's a real shame it wasn't continued. I have to admit, I prefer it to the traditional sci-fi fare. I feel as though on a limited TV budget, you have to really make a story about people and leave the spectacular effects for the big budget movies which are constantly setting our expectations higher and higher. But in their defense, I've never given any of the other shows much of a chance, so I could be totally wrong about this.
  18. Mother wins ban on violent porn

Um... 0 posts? I don't think it's that ridiculous that they put a ban on owning violent pornography. Well, that didn't come out right. People should be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want, as long as it doesn't involve depriving unwilling persons of their "life, liberty, and property", and violent consensual pornography should be a-ok (not to start a whole new discussion, but by that same logic, why is suicide illegal?). However, it's not, in my mind, any more unbelievable or unfair to put a ban on violent pornography than it is to ban kiddy porn. There are alot of unpleasent things in the world that many people don't want anyone to see (if you close your eyes and ears and hum, it goes away, right?), and without condoning kiddy porn or violent pornography, I can say that I believe violent pornography is ultimately much more damaging, however indirectly it's influence may be.
  19. Super Paper Mario

Have you watched Firefly yet? My friends and I are halfway through the first and only season, and it is positively mind-blowing. Real human drama.
  20. Super Paper Mario

Crush looks more like the direction i would have wanted to see SPM take. So far, SPM's mechanic looks like it boils down to simply an akward way to shift perspective in a game that's 3D to begin with, whereas Crush allows you to collapse the many layers of terrain into one. I don't know, I guess SPM does the same, but Crush just feels more innovative. But yes, I have a Wii and I don't have a PSP, so I guess the decision was kind of made for me. And Rodi I have to know: Where did you get your avatar from?
  21. Braid

YES! Limbo. I'm really excited about it, but also frustrated that the website hasn't changed in about a year now.
  22. Command & Conquer 3 demo

Oh my. I just played through a successful skirmish, and I am in awe. Graphics are beautiful, though I agree, I had to turn them up. My system did lag a bit, but that was only on maximum settings with 40+ units on the screen. Firehawks are amazing. Saved me, in the end. I had them pinned down unitwise, but they kept popping up with construction yards, so in the end I barely even used ground units. I just flew 3 Firehawks back and forth alternating with suicidal airdrops and artillery to keep them pinned down. See? I love it so much I just want to talk about it!
  23. So what's Crackdown like?

Totally. it was fun just to kick people into poles and watch how the ragdolls reacted. Since you can level up to a point where you can essentially jump over a building, racing your fallen enemies to the pavement is also enjoyable. Its the little things in life...
  24. So what's Crackdown like?

My favorite part of the game was leveling up your strength until you could pick up vans and then just kicking people off the tops of buildings. Admitedly, I got bored of the combat rather quickly, and somehow, the driving isn't as easy as in GTA. Plus, the lack of real-world cars had a strange effect of disconnecting me from the driving aspect of the game. I usually love futuristic worlds in games, but I'd pick GTA over Crackdown for it's cop chases. That's probably what it is. You are the cop in Crackdown, so the freeplay is decidedly one-sided: you against them. In GTA, you could fall into favor with various gangs to mix up the gameplay, but you could ALWAYS have an awesome chase with some cops. Whats the point of stealing a car if you're allowed to. That kind of thing.
  25. The Movie "Children of Men"

Yeh. Sorry . Wasn't sure. My own interpretation of the title was meant as a sort of joke as well, poking fun at the whole men-are-brutal, women-are-nurturing mentality as well.
