  1. As a Yank, I had the chance to play episode four of Sam and Max on Gametap already. I'll try and be vague so as not to spoil the game for others. Short story -- it's now my favorite so far. It was significantly longer than the others, and I was even stumped a couple of times.

There's a couple of seeming background objects that turn out to be inventory items early in the game, and there's a pixel hunt at the end (although there is a decent clue if you know what to look for.) There's also a fair bit more moving back and forth (I'm hesitant to use backtracking in a game with so few locations), but it all makes sense in context.

The length seems satisfying because of the way this episode is structured: you have more interlocking small puzzles at any one time than just three, separate large puzzles making up the bulk of the game. This episode also has more inventory items that can be used to get funny responses out of the characters, which brought back memories of Psychonauts.

The writing is sharper than ever. The jokes are more motivated by politics than pop culture this time around. Some of them are amazing, some fall flat, but there's plenty of character and situation driven humor left over. The mayhem you can cause is astonishing.

Anyway, I highly recommend this episode. Telltale has been listening.

  2. There's a demo on the XBL marketplace already, if you haven't tried it. The demo was fun for the time limit, but too soulless once the novelty of being able to throw cars and jump great heights wore off. There didn't really seem that much to keep me interested for an entire game, story or action. Funnily enough, Eurogamer gave it a 9/10, but also said that it can be easily beaten in a weekend, very odd for a genre normally associated with exploration. :shifty:

DomainsByProxy? Sounds sinister, like a company set up solely to mirror other sites through proxy, making a few evil changes for their own profit? They set up the site last February, apparently, and claim to run out of Arizona.

  4. So a stock PS3 is cheaper than an xbox 360 with many options that the consumer may not want or need? :erm:

Blue Ray or HD-DVD - Not necessary, especially for the significant portion of the market that don't have hd-capable televisions.

Wireless networking - Existing wireless network adaptors (or at least the one I had) work fine with the 360. You can easily find a cheaper 3rd party adapter, use one of your own, or just plug in ethernet (which the Wii oddly doesn't support out of the box).

Xbox Live - The only main difference between the free and paid services is the ability to play online games (and also download some demos earlier, but that's not really important). The downloading, communication, and "achievement" system comes with the free version.

  5. I like the taste of coffee, but drink it infrequently. Thankfully, I do not yet have high tolerance to caffeine, so it's been there for me when I absolutely need it.

  6. I was a big fan of the Lucasarts adventure games in the early 90s, and eventually stumbled upon Mixnmojo. Followed a link here from Mojo, lurked for a very long time, and finally joined last year. I'm not a fan of huge, impersonal communities with constant, bustling activity. It's cozy here.

  7. The demo level was an adventure game (left-click to move, right-click to interact or "pray"). The camera angles got annoying with the point-and-click gameplay. Also annoying was the fact that the only puzzles in the demo appeared to be switch puzzles. However, activating said switches requires you to pray on circles on the ground, waiting for him to finish a 5-10 second chant. The graphics were stylized, but the cutscenes were of pretty low quality (and had a lot of trouble changing pixels on my laptop).

I found a random review by some site called Internode: http://games.internode.on.net/content.php?mode=reviews&id=61

They seemed to like the atmosphere, and say that the later levels get more complicated. They dislike the clunky gameplay, however. You can also die in the game, and you can't save except between levels.

  8. Nice catch with the stylus. I preordered Phoenix Wright from Gamestop online. However, they tried to lure me into some evil $10/month subscription service with promises of a $10 gift certificate. Objection! :fart:
