  1. Portal

Neat. Beat it earlier today (40 levels). Some of the collision detection was a bit iffy (boxes going through walls, non-stackable turrets, going through exit at too high a speed somehow teleports you to the entrance ), but pretty fun.
  2. The Secret Mystery Game

Why play tetris? I'll never complete it.
  3. The Secret Mystery Game

The only thing I hated about N was the save system. Some of the later levels require *really* tight reflexes, dodging rockets, lasers, those chasing eye things, and mines, all while collecting coins to make sure you have enough time to complete the next level. Each level becomes a difficult exercise in trial and error, but you can only save your progress after you beat a set of *five* of these increasingly difficult levels in a row. Quitting kicks you back to the beginning of the level set. I sort of understand their reasoning -- not collecting enough gold in earlier levels might not leave you with enough time to actually win a level set if you come back to it, or not wanting to take up save space for all 100+ level sets -- but it's still annoying. Btw, this comes from beating the first 19 level sets before reaching the limit of my Video game masochism, so I have played enough to get into it.
  4. This Holiday is just Packed!

    I feel your pain.
  5. Double Fine

    Scans. Skepticism gone. I want.
  6. Double Fine

What a terrible article. Not even providing a copy of the recording or the backmasking?
  7. Portal

Might be referring to Narbacular Drop, the portal tech demo back when the devs were college students. The most interesting difference is that you can project portals *through* other portals. Otherwise, a sequel would be damn cool.
  8. Double Fine

Not an article summary, but the deranged speculation of a DF forumgoer. I'm skeptical, but still excited, only because Tim Schafer's behind it. I wonder if he's trying to piggyback off of the success of Guitar Hero and Metalocalypse, or if this idea occured earlier.

Agreed on every count. What a brilliant, hilarious game. Play it. Plaaay it!
  12. Sonic in Smash Bros. Brawl

Ugh. The attitude. On a lighter note, I can't wait for little kids online to spin dash right off of the level.
  13. Pokemon Friend Codes

God damnit. Now we're number one. Our reverse psychology didn't work.

  15. Pokemon Friend Codes

With such a large resource of pokemon friend codes as we have here, there is bound to be a great difference of skill displayed by the owners of the pokemon friend codes. This pokemon friend codes resource is being provided as a gift to community of pokemon friend codes lovers, free of charge, only requiring registration in order to post your pokemon friend codes. I humbly ask your respect for those who have posted their pokemon friend codes in order to use others pokemon friend codes for trading or battle purposes. From the spelling, grammar, and complete lack of interest in the rest of the forums when they submitted their pokemon friend codes, some of the submitters of pokemon friend codes are young children, who are possibly putting themselves at risk by publicly posting their pokemon friend codes online, given the voice chat feature. Make this a safe, friendly environment for pokemon friend codes. Thank you, pokemon friend codes, for the joy you've given this community. Pokemon friend codes.
  16. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been listening to the album Silent Steeples by Dispatch a lot recently. They went through some different styles, but are mostly a folk rock band with occasional reggae/hip-hop/tribal/classical influences. Damn fun to listen to.
  17. Phantom Hourglass

I think I'll wait until later. Some of the reviews said that it was easier than the Minish Cap, which was already ridiculously easy, being the only Zelda game where I never died and never got stuck. This games season is really crowded, forcing me to make some really tough calls. I'm almost positive I'll enjoy it, but I guess this just falls by the wayswide for me for now.
  18. Zero Punctuation

New one out about Halo 3: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2304-Zero-Punctuation-Halo-3 He takes reviewers to school for grading Halo 3 mainly on the multiplayer while glossing over the single player's flaws, and then immediately proceeds to tear the single player to shreds (well, calling it average) while glossing over the multiplayer. So he rightfully criticizes reviewers for only representing half the game in their scores, then immediately reviews...half the game. His individual points are valid, but that's an interesting hypocrisy. I wonder, though, if the single player and the multiplayer are that different in quality, should gaming reviewers give them different scores?
  19. Community service

I'm using the mouse gestures extension for firefox. Whenever I want to go back, I just hold the right mouse button and move the mouse a little to the left. Love it. Anyway, the script seems like it could come in handy, but also be abused. I guess if the script is implemented, should it be post-limited alá new users not being able to post new topics?
  20. Books!

Pratchett is amazing. Haven't had a chance to read this one yet, but I've enjoyed pretty much all of his prior works. I just read his Johnny Maxwell trilogy, which, like The Amazing Maurice and the Tiffany Aching series, are very entertaining children books that he wrote. I liked the Shadow (follows older Bean) books better than the Speaker for the Dead (follows older Ender) series. Both were a bit out there, though. The later Bean books focused on political intrigue in the post-Ender's Game universe. The Speaker books had ridiculously hamfisted Christian overtones, and some plot devices that seemed more like magic than sci-fi, although the first one was entertainingly suspenseful.
  21. Space Giraffe

The spiked ball enemies move around randomly on the play field, and apparently can only be killed when they are changing lanes. They shoot bullets like the normal enemies (from the demo), but when they reach the web (line you move on usually), they split in two and actually travel along the web to either side. If they reach the web itself, they can't be rammed off, so you have to use either a jump powerup to get behind them to shoot them or the smart bomb tail. Very interesting mechanics, challenging even without the added difficulty of the graphics.
  22. Space Giraffe

I made it up to about level 34ish, and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about this game. I seem to alternate between loving the game (when I *am* in the zone) and hating it (when I have no idea what's going on). All I know is that I really dislike the enemies that attach to the web and shoot to either side, although I guess that's to force the player to use the jump pods more strategically. I had to look online to find out that they couldn't be killed unless they're moving horizontally. Weird.
  23. That Game Which Must Not Be Named!

I guess to avoid the inevitable (and apparently currently available) internet spoilers of the ending? Granted, Halo's story was never that great (oh noes! kill the aliens! oh noes! different aliens to kill, that also want to kill the first aliens! oh noes, a ring will destroy all life! oh noes, it's a septuply-redudant system with six more rings!) but it is a part of the experience.
  24. That Game Which Must Not Be Named!

Yeah. I'm way too hyped up about Halo 3, mainly because, like N0wak, I usually play online with a group of friends that I know well. The party system is damn good, and surprising that most other online games don't provide an easy way to keep a group of friends together and on the same team through random matches. Forge looks ridiculously cool, being able to completely customize the weapon and item placement on the maps down to the spawn rates.
