Totally That kind of speech isn't a truth or bullshit issue for organisations like major investment banks, but would be a definite PR issue. I find the whole "But he's not from a major investment bank or hedge fund, how can we trust what he says?" mind boggling.
-
I linked this with many on twitter yesterday, and a whole thing about whether or not he's a hoaxer erupted. He apparently is an independent trader, and also a self confessed attention seeker. He may be right, but he may also have a vested interest in creating a sense of economic doom. I find it interesting that people find his authenticity so debatable. I looked through his site and he evidently knows something about trading, even if it comes over like some kind of "how to get rich" blog. If someone who was actually from a big investment bank spoke like he did in that interview, they'd probably have someone on the phone firing them just as the interview ended. As someone put it to me: People in power don't speak that frankly.

There were five iOS games on show among the PC games, but a lot interfered with that before the Expo. A late crunch on other stuff meant there was no time to really do press properly for it. Also, Apple won't lend hardware to events unless they're events run and owned by Apple, so exhibitors had to bring their own kit. Here's a run down of what did make it: Reflow by Xymatic was a really fun thing to have there. Kyy Games were also there with Cabals, and turned out to be neighbours of Xymatic in Tampere too. Personally, I don't like the aesthetics of Greedy Bankers, but as a game it's well executed. It reminds me a lot of multiplayer Amiga Power coverdisc games that would addict me and friends for days at a time. Alistair's team were also formidably competent at approaching people while clutching iPads, getting them to play the game and funnelling useful contact info back to Alistair. Spilt Milk were there with Hard Lines, plus cake and beer. The developers of Earth Under Siege flew over from fucking Brazil to show their game, putting to shame a nameless and nearby developer that pulled out mere days before the Expo. I really hope that coming so far for the Expo was worth it for all of the international exhibitors, because they're great guys. The IGA gets more developers attending each year, and this time had more than 50% of the games accompanied by people on the showfloor either talking people through their game, or standing at a distance taking notes. It was also pretty excellent that Hello Games had hired a stand right next to the IGA, as getting into it in 2009 was the first time they showed Joe Danger in public Ellie Gibson and John Teti did this without me spotting them. Why indie developers are the best: At the end of the last day, all the ones that didn't have to rush off to the airport stayed behind to help me strip then box all of the hardware. Heroes.

********* Smash Crew won the RPS award, and mighty fucking fine it is http://www.richmakegame.com/?page_id=399 http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/25/hooray-for-the-indie-arcade-winner/

There was quite a bit missing from the build I played last week, though much has been added between then and the Expo. What's there is really polished already though.
-
Also this. It's one of the IGA games this year, and has a way left to go, but is pleasingly like the original UFO: Enemy Unknown.

Not comical, but HOLY FUCK: nsjDnYxJ0bo Apparently real, though I'm very sceptical of the shot at 0:07. Why does it have such a clear background showing a tiled roof?
-
Um, you mean Hackspace? The hackspace would probably take it if you didn't want it anymore, though aren't doing anything specifically for GameCity. I'll be working for GameCity that week, so might not be able to hang around for the whole thing. Most likely that I'll be one of the people running around preventing anything from falling to bits.

I'm sad you couldn't make it over, but totally understand. There were quite a few developers in the same boat. Didn't realise you were a thumb!
-
Please don't be shy about introducing yourself, I'd be happy to see any thumbs. I may or may not be wearing a blue Eurogamer t-shirt, but I look like this. My glasses are crapper now because the ones in that photo got run over by a car. F4T C4T, thank you. People submitted some great games this year, and I particularly recommend Really Big Sky and ********* Smash Crew. Both procedurally generated, and both had me sat there an hour later when I'd just meant to test the builds I was sent. Edit: Hah, had totally forgotten that word is censored

I'll be running the Indie Games Arcade stand again. There's also the RPS Meet-o-Chat happening nearby on Friday.

It was the spam bot that resurrected the thread. Also, this film was on Sky TV last night. Is NewCorp now running spam bots too? (Man… start offering "Transmedia SEO" in the right circles and you could probably sell that shit for millions :/ ).

It did actually fly under a table and cut someone's toe open after Brighton Mini Maker Faire. I wasn't flying it ¬¬

Instancing time while folding space. Excellent Also saw this prototype recently, where the player can compress space along any vector: http://www.vimeo.com/25620314

Decided to stay in IT security for now then, Scrobbs? -- It's the Eurogamer Expo this week, meaning I'll be on my feet for 12+ hours five days in a row, and dealing alternately with lovely developers, nice average gamers, and the occasional mouth breathing nerd that emits a noxious cloud of pocky crumbs whenever they speak.

Oh, it's badly written alright, but the content is stellar. Some standout bits: ^ He's dead on about this not necessarily being prejudice. The bonus material section provides a pretty breathtaking example of this. I think people are being oversensitive about that basejumping and kinky sex comic too. It's obviously hyperbolic, but has a point: There are loads of better things to do than get called "fag" by some teenager in a game. I love playing games, but when I'm forced to mix with those kind of people, that's exactly where I lose interest and go do something else.

If you suffer from motion sickness, this will probably make you sick. I don't get it, and felt a bit queasy, but it was totally worth it for the eureka moment when the rotors started spinning and I realised what was about to happen to the image: EnrwrwMfNSs

^ As subbes says. That's what mine acts like, and what I prefer now I'm used to it.
-
Mine is like this: I used to have one with a button below (but topographically above). Tapping to click is what I hate, but having an affirmative click that I can feel and hear all over the touchpad is great. I understand your feelings about this are the other way around?
-
I absolutely despise tap to click touchpads on any laptops, because they lack affirmative feedback and cause me to continually click by accident. Having the whole touchpad clickable rather than a button on my MBP was weird at first, but I was used to it within a week

Done! I'm still liking G+ a lot more than facebook. It's open to longer, more bloggy stuff if you like, and handles it well, automatically shortening it in people's feeds. Instant upload on the mobile app is also great; all your photos automatically go into a private album, and you just get a notification then choose which ones to share. No faffing with file browsers, emails or upload bars!

Yes! Adventure Time is a damn fine cartoon.
