Respect to you, Miffy The last two weeks have had some very strange experiences. Some people from the hackspace went to visit Tim Hunkin, and I found myself in his workshop, being taught to use a plasma cutter to melt through 5mm sheet steel at an alarming pace. The other was finding myself on Skype with the director of GameCity and Eric Chahi, prototyping laser etched food The third, making 512 felt Horaces: 9Eid1Cn3mWs It got a bit much. I've been dreaming about Horace. He's a part of me now

I didn't say maglevs weren't amazing.

Yes, I'm reading up on the bosses as I get to them, because I tried the first one a few times by myself and got really annoyed. There are tricks that make them fairly easy even if you're sneak/hacking biased. In the pub the other night, a few of us from GameCity were dicussing what that social enhancer should have been: Unlock new skills to schmooze your way past guards: Compliments, back rubs, fake sincerity while cracking racist jokes. Learning prejudiced jokes allows you to be matey with guards, but also destroys a piece of your soul, which is a finite resource. Watch 4 hour American Football matches in order to successfully navigate sprawling chit-chat dialogue trees. Spend literally weeks building up rapport with all of the guards to charm your way into restricted areas. Boss fight: While giving a guard a back rub and foot massage, he asks for a happy end. How will you handle this awkward situation? Will you talk your way out of it, or end up playing the most awkward and prolonged quick-time event ever made?

Maybe: "Child eating cow".

Maglevs use a whole load of electricity switching electromagmets on and off to move the train. Quantum locking is way more amazing than that. Not to shit on your post, Murdoc. I agree: Why doesn't that have an insanely big crowd around it?

Thanks for running it Tabacco I only used it at the beginning in the very first world, but it's been excellent to see the stuff everyone has built. -
Argh! It's on the tip of my brain! I can remember an illustration of some very similar creatures with greenish yellow fur, goofy teeth and possibly wearing aprons and chefs hats. I can't remember the title of the book though. I think it might even have been a pop-up book.

Tanu, good luck with the interview. I hope it goes well, and if it doesn't, don't despair, just be determined to find more. If there is one time when I would never pick on your English, it's now when you've been telling us how much trouble life is making for you. Don't worry about commas Excellent. Is that your mate holding a phone out the side of the car? I may have a project to do involving that at some point…

Needs robot sounds.

I didn't see any shots of it online yet, but I really like the sculpture in Pritchard's office.

Yes, first thought on seeing him in the trailer: "Oh great. Hipster Doctor". He's pretty much perfect for it though.

 I think, probably, that some children somewhere will really enjoy this game for a while. Then move onto something else. I like Adam's writing on RPS, but his comments about the controls and unchallenging platforming have been niggling at me. It might just be me, but they seem to be written as if he thought the game was aimed at him, not kids.

Yeah, that looks really impressive despite the funky player collision One day, we'll get that with NaturalMotion animation and Ubisoft crowd dynamics, and on that day I'll probably only be able to point at the screen and make incoherent noises.

I feel ambivalent about it. It's fairly charming, and the controls didn't get to me, but it didn't take very long at all to sense the grind underneath then instantly exhale any remaining motivation to play.

I think that's the next one I'm getting Agreed on the hub worlds. They never feel busy, and the nightclub in Hengsha particularly underlines that. I don't know why game developers still try to put nightclubs in games. They're always so unconvincing without crowds in them, especially when written to be as supposedly cool as The Hive. (Also, ridiculous AI moment in there: ) I think that's a problem we'll have for a long time. We could do something that feels like a public place in a William Gibson novel and is as crowded as Stables Market, but only by putting a really significant and obvious dent in the art quality. Kind of why Relic didn't put Tyranids in the first Dawn of War, there just weren't the system resources to bring the art quality up to the same standard as the other races and also have their swarming tactics in. Assassin's Creed went a long way toward it, but still not enough to do heaving crowds that feel overwhelmingly busy.

Finally playing this. Mostly non-lethal, because as someone put it to me, Jensen feels like a jumped up security guard. I'd rather be that than a jumped up, murdering security guard. Knockouts are really satisfying, especially two at a time with the reflex booster aug. One situation so far has made me use real bullets: , I felt completely justified within the fiction of the game to waste them with sneaky headshots from a silenced pistol. I think it was an odd combination of narrative justification, plus exercising such stealth and restraint up to that point, that made getting back out of there one of the most satisfying bouts of shooting I've ever had in a game Only one flaw has stuck out to me: When Jensen sprints, his arms come up but the camera stays at exactly the same height, making it feel like he's just mincing really fast.

Hmm. Was contemplating a guided projectiles weapon upgrade in Deus Ex last night, thinking "Oh yeah, I saw video of that". But it was this trailer. I'm a little cynical about them doing this to Syndicate, but much like XCOM, think "You know what? Fine". They'll both probably be competently made FPSes that aren't all BROWN and WAR and stuff, and that's a good thing. The white ocean installation shown briefly in that makes me catch my breath a little, in exactly the same way from Wipeout HD does. The shift to FPS makes it obvious that they won't give me whatever the original games did, so there's no point waiting to be disappointed in that, and at least I don't have to get drawn into some new fiction or elaborate storyline full of overegged mcguffins and stupid made up names. Overegged mcguffins is my new favourite turn of phrase. "Oh no! I overegged the mcguffins."

"First time" is probably the most common term. The word debut specifically relates to a first public performance of something. Heh

Arrested Development. More of it, apparently. Inner thoughts: "Please don't fuck this up. Please don't fuck this up."

The age of consent is 16 in the UK; until a decade ago it was 18 if you were gay though. The blue one looks way nicer Edit: I think the carbon dashboard and Minilite wheels on the red one look a bit wank. It's like… trying to put an ultra-modern dash on something that isn't and pairing it with classic retro wheels. Whoever built the blue one has way more aesthetic sense, and a bigger engine to boot. Rollcage, manifold, wheels, bodywork, dash and seats are all better looking and better matched on that one.

One visit isn't going to fix everything. The therapist is likely still assessing things too. Give it time, these kind of problems can't be fixed fast. This advice from your father is terrible . This though: Sounds like a good plan.

So, anyone trying this yet? I have a console but haven't had a chance to use it, but tried the app tonight and it's pretty damn good. If you're picky about everything being really crisp and super high res, you'll probably hate it, but if you're use to playing stuff on a mid-range gaming PC, it's great. It does get compression artefacts sometimes, but nowhere near as bad as I expected. Sometimes it's really crisp, and the times it's not are kind of like a contact lens coming slightly unstuck. In five hours of playing the new Deus Ex, I've only had it really struggle once, for about a second. Thats on both good broadband within 0.5 miles of the telco, and an okay connection over 2 miles away. Subscriptions are currently free, but it told me on sign up they might not always be. I would bet the publishers are exercising a lot of control over price, but there's no way I'd buy full games at the price they are now when I could have my own copy for the same money and not need a subscription. What does interest me is, say, having access to Space Marine for three days for £3.50
