  1. Game of Thrones (TV show)

  2. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I watched a lot of Louis Theroux, but had never seen this: _a0M_MyTdpE
  3. Your first gaming device...

If it involved hitching a ride on a bee, than it was Granny's Garden. I'm convinced TP posting this thread is merely another circuitous trick by the ex-girlfriend that keeps trying to find out how old I am ¬¬ *cough*
  4. Life

I think chalkboard paint gives a really nice matt finish. We had a wall of it in the office at a previous job, and it was really useful in meetings. Best to keep soft furnishings away from it though, and if the area near it is cramped, you'll probably get it on your clothes.

It gets even better when you run the description through Google Translate:

Linked to save you from Breaking Bad spoilers; this image is lovely: http://art.ngfiles.com/images/70/johnnyutah_super-breaking-bad-2-turbo.png

That was fascinating, especially the one that repeatedly stalls. Thanks ys. -- Meanwhile: 51HtoNn_fq8
  8. That was The Barley Mow, just around the corner from Scotland Yard. I can't think of anywhere that you'll be guaranteed quiet. The Cider Tap opened recently near Euston Station, is tiny, and has an upstairs that might not be busy (It also only serves cider. It's built into one of the huge stone gateposts outside the station, and there's a beery pub in the one opposite). Just down the road, near Great Portland Street, is the Albany, which is fairly spacious and you might be able to find a quiet spot. They also have a basement that's sometimes open, thought that might only be for special events. There are some very quiet roads around Lancaster Gate, right near Paddington, though you might struggle to find a pub there at all. You're much more likely to get peace and quiet in a hotel bar somewhere.
  9. LOST

Sorry, I meant the show, not you It had me up until the end of series two, episode one, where I thought "Fuck this, the writers are obviously improvising". Lost reminds me of long rainy afternoons when I was seven, spent with other kids making shit up. Very much this: I read the end on wikipedia a while back just so I could converse with housemates that talked about it. Spoiler: http://pics.blameitonthevoices.com/052010/lost-gif-dog.gif
  10. LOST

Edit: I'm going to stay out of this. I'm with Orv, but I don't really want to reason around that. It's nice that some of you enjoyed Lost. I didn't. Hah I once asked a friend how he was getting on with a recent Final Fantasy, and he said: "I'm about 13 hours in and it's starting to get good".
  11. Life

I'm prototyping a thing at the moment, which involves not just making it but also sourcing uncommon bits, spending a lot of time staring at screens, learning new stuff like g-code and CAD software, dicking around with machine setups, and testing things. I go through whole days of "You idiot, this is a stupid idea. Everybody will laugh and nobody will buy it", but all the people I know in a field related to it say it's a good idea. Last night, I finished a CNC machined prototype, dropped it, threw it, bowled it about 50 feet, hit it back with a piece of wood, and kicked it down two flights of stairs. It did exactly as it was supposed to; the delicate electronics and glass inside survived without a scratch
  12. Beyond Better & Evil!

Muddily remembered from the various GameCity Q&As Stewart Gilray and Lorne Lanning have done: I think Just Add Water had a few problems with old/undocumented stuff, but Oddworld Inhabitants seem to be good at keeping stuff for reference.

I suspected with it being so hammy ( ). Any info on him, or who invented him, and why? I keep getting the name Francis Cormier when I google, but not much else.
  14. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Not my usual bleepy fare, but I'm really enjoying Two Door Cinema Club right now. Second one is also an ace video when you realise what's happening: 1ed8NBPmits LLK4oaXUuLg

I asked a 3D artist I know, and he says Day and Night, a short by Pixar, uses it better than anything else he's seen. I don't know where you could get a 3D copy, but there's a bit about it here: http://www.pixar.com/shorts/d&n/index.html

Sorry for being so aggressive. Maybe some people use it as an excuse to dismiss films, but others including me just find it uncomfortable and jarring in itself.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't care much about your rant, TP. In everyone's case, you're making generalisations about what they think and why they think it. In my case specifically, you're: Confusing criticism of specific films with criticism of a general trend. Failing to answer this: You can have the biggest ninny fit over it you like and come over all "How dare you even mention it when you're not a film maker!", but I find it unpleasant, I'm utterly entitled to that opinion, and can reason around it just fine thanks.
  19. Life

I would guess: Successive invasions and consolidation of the monarchy caused them to gradually be absorbed into other power structures.
  20. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Maybe it's for far right Christian groups that want to cure people of being gay. For the bit where they crucify you with cuddles.

As I recall, you killed elmuerte's complaint that it was lazy filmmaking. It's not lazy filmmaking, but it is aesthetically boring, dominant at the moment, and highly exaggerated. It's become a dull and repetitive colour palette, often applied in wildly inappropriate ways. Case in point: darkroom scene in I Am Number Four. There are many other , and so much symbolic meaning to people in colour. Grading everything into high contrast, high saturation complimentary colours is sometimes appropriate, but it's sugary to an extreme. I don't need my thrillers to go down like candy, thanks.
  22. Hey! Warehouse 13 is better than it seems at first. It does silly extremely well, but suffers badly when it tries to do dramatic or apocalyptic. They've also done some really excellent things, like .
  23. The Pirate Bay upgrades to being sky pirates

Really interesting, though I'll believe it when it happens. The original source is this post: http://thepiratebay.se/blog/210 They're just thinking about it. I'm curious as to the eventual design; maybe balloons with some relatively big solar panels on, because a lot of drones like quadcopters have minuscule flight times right now. Powering motors without massively putting up the weight is hard.
