  1. Idle Hooves: CLOP

You can kind of trot by alternating between the outer then inner keys. L is the leg that always gets you in trouble on hills. Switching to alternating between H then JK is a craven, slow, horrible way to thrash your way up hills three legged, but it works. I can almost get into a gallop too, by going H, L, K, J in the correct rhythm. It seems to work best when H is the first leg. I can reliably get past the halfway point now, but the big hill beyond that fucks me every time. Has anyone else noticed the big flying star near the beginning? It's a maddening callback to Braid, and keeps making me wonder if there's a magic trot or a way of glitching to it.
  2. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

That is indeed the full clue you quoted there.
  3. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Here is a clue, Coldkill. , PiratePoo. A friend tells me there's a Steampunk one just like that, which includes the phrase "Slyly steam-jumped to the steam-window". He can't find it again though
  4. Non-video games

We have a half elf ranger (close combat), a tiefling rogue, a halfling warlock (or mage, I forget which), and a dragonborn warrior. We're going to die, but are having a lot of fun on the way. Mostly, we've been using stealth to take down the first few enemies on a map, then squad tactics to funnel enemies into kill zones. Some of the bigger ones are starting to give us trouble though.
  5. Non-video games

It's a long time since I painted anything like that, but the best tip I got: Thin your paints. Not only will they go further, lots of thin coats won't obliterate the detail on your models either. Edit: I managed to pick up a combat medic feat, which means I can stabilise dying characters as a minor action. It's actually reduced our chances of dying quite a bit, but there have been some very messy fights.
  6. Life

This was work on Friday: About six hours of filming, 17 miles of trail, 8 miles of road, and no complaints from me
  7. Non-video games

I've been playing this too; it's a beautiful little game. I need to play it more, but in these early games we haven't looked at all the Lords and often have little to go on in terms of what someone else is shooting for. I've a feeling if we play it enough, there'll be a lot more anticipation and blocking of others. Agent placement creates some exceptionally good decision making and contingency planning, and you can get some really powerful combos going with the buildings. It feels very interleaved, like the best bits of a Euro, players end up paying a lot of attention to each other. Edit: Waterdeep harbour can also make for some beautiful plays too; it seems to have just enough unique things to create small twists and stop it being a really straightforward and repetitive system, but without making it horrifically complex. I didn't find the rules too onerous; so much stuff is printed on the game pieces rather than in a book you must consult. I think that's basically good game design; so many shove all of the rules in a book when the game itself could make them clear. Infinite City almost managed it with all special rules printed on tiles, but that art was pretty badly handled and the type really small. Edit edit: I've actually been playing a lot of D&D recently (4th ed). It's the first time I've roleplayed since G.U.R.P.S. over a decade ago, and I'd forgotten how much fun it is. I have an impulsive half elf named Titus Pwn*, who duel wields a trident and a short sword. He's the backup tank, which he's not really designed for, and his motto is "Still not dead". We have no medic, and the DM is kind of pulling his hair out trying to balance it as a result.
  8. This is a pretty damn good recruiting video:
  9. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Hahaha Planetary is excellent too. It takes place in the same universe as The Authority, but where the latter is all gung-ho heroics and apocalyptic drama, Planetary has a more sedate spirit and a sense of wonder. It tells quieter stories; the heroes in it Do Good Things and are very human. It took a long time for them to get around to finishing it, but they gave it a very good ending. Transmetropolitan is also fucking excellent, and one of the few series that's complete on my shelves.
  10. 'Roadside Picnic'

i liked the book I read this after playing SoC, and it's among the best SF books I can recall. With the overall theme of the book being , it nicely echoed the first (spoilers) I got in the game.
  11. Doctor me up, Thumbs

Yeah, you can just rock up to A&E, report to the front desk, then they'll ask a load of questions and put you through triage. Be prepared to wait for quite a few hours unless your condition is life threatening.
  12. The Less-Idle Thumbs: A Fitocracy Group

I used to run quite a bit, and was doing well in terms of times at events, but was really undisciplined/irregular. Nike+ worked for a while, but I think all measurment or levelling systems get tired sooner or later. The only way I've made fitness a consistent part of my life is commuting by bike.
  13. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I'll second Subbes recommendation of Phonogram and Singles Club. They're excellent. Two other favourites from recent years: Asterios Polyp is a quiet story, very beautifully told. Meanwhile by Jason Shiga is a nuts, visual choose your own adventure comic. It starts with a choice between vanilla or chocolate ice cream, but quickly raises the stakes. Fun Home
  14. I enjoyed it, and somehow, the (birthday) party I was at had a stream with almost no commentary at all to ruin it. It was a spectacular up yours to the current government.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

I've been avoiding this thread, but finally saw The Dark Knight Rises last night. Is it just me, or was the ending absolutely hilarious? I kept having to stifle giggles.
  16. Critical Path

It is. Also, uh, very representative of games industry demographics, or the relative lack of them. Via LewieP on Twitter:

  20. Legal rights for dolphins and whales

Dairy isn't entirely humane, as far as I'm aware. The cows are sometimes on a bunch of drugs, and they can develop sores from the milking.

    "Synthesiser Patel"
  23. Quite. The best thing about that is that Stewart Lee absolutely does not do Twitter Edit: There's a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard about in this article: ¬¬ I'd like to reiterate: Fuck the Olympics, the IOC, and LOCOG right in their stupid gobs.
