Running a small company can be pretty weird, but I'm still enjoying it compared to the complacency a regular salary once instilled in me. I've been really poor for the past three years or so (as in, I got behind on rent once and there were a couple of times I struggled to eat when first starting out). I'm still quite poor, but I worked my ass off last year, and this month paid off 60% of my debts. The rest should be gone in a year. Feels good.
  2. Spelunky!

Oh, sweet. Thanks for screenshotting it.
  3. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I do often wish OBS had a loop record feature so I could just compile deaths without it being so much work.
  4. Spelunky!

An embarrassing death on the Vita daily today: Got to Olmec, cleared the top of the level, then fell onto him forgetting to open my cape, taking my last point of health.

Hard to infer what anyone feels, but I hope it's not cut you up too badly Patters, and that you're feeling better soon. Great to hear you're managing to get fitter.
  6. Spelunky!

Yeah, sometimes it's the ankh too.
  7. From that mix in the Dancing Thumb, guy drops pizza on turntable in the first few minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TY7YrpuB2GI#t=260
  8. Probably shouldn't have posted that but nm I bet it was his fault.
  9. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Ooh thanks Justin. That was excellent This song via Nightvale Radio's Weather: http://jackcampbell.bandcamp.com/track/absentee and via Twitter, a mix of 100 songs from Bleep.com in 2013: https://soundcloud.com/platform/bleep-100-tracks-of-2013
  10. Thanks Bjorn, that's a really interesting nugget about titles for other media. Bethesda are cunts*. They once nicked all of the monitors from my stand during setup for a show. *Probably not all of them.

Congrats Twig! I hope it's the job you want.
  12. (For those who don't know who Noel Gallagher is or who Oasis were, that's not just some random guy taking the piss out of them in the video at the top of this page: It's one of the band members doing a DVD commentary with regrets). Yeah, halcyon days. After the BBC canned it for the last time, they did something with an almost identical format for Channel 4, but that too wasn't as good. Bob is often brilliant on Twitter though. Aww dammit, I rode about 18 miles on my bike tonight and couldn't get this out of my head. Felt like breaking into song most of the way round.
  13. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I am really, really bad at adventure games, so there were a few bits of this I bashed my head on a little. Even then, I didn't switch and pushed through to the end of Vella's bit before starting on Shay.

But the interview has a brilliantly awkward punchline!

Here's a PDF of Michael Abrash's talk at the Steam Dev Days: http://media.steampowered.com/apps/abrashblog/Abrash%20Dev%20Days%202014.pdf It has loads of information on how Valve are supporting VR, and what hardware will make for a headset that actually gives a sense of presence.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

Heh The second series feels weird because it's done with decent cameras. The last episode is magnificent though. Also, don't miss the New Years Eve Spooktacular. It has an horrific interview with Demi Lovato.

Yeah, lenses for POV footage are always a compromise. Without the wide angle, they don't simulate stuff whipping by your peripheral vision so everything looks really slow. With a wide shot, the trail ahead flattens but looks like it falls away more steeply to either side. I'm planning the next prototype of this cable cam, which will (hopefully) be much faster and more stable. Let me know if you fancy messing around with one later this year (though rigging them is a bitch at the moment). Definitely going to do more skills courses, there are some good teachers near where I'm headed. With the XC bike in that video, I definitely got to the point where I felt like I was at the limits of the bike.

Looks gorgeous. Do you film a lot of trails? , much faster and crash less after a bit of training with someone who knew what they were doing That's Hemlock Stone, which is one of the few places people go and build stuff around Nottingham. I'm a way off being able to ride DH, but these past few years really feel like I've been building some skills. Watching some of my cornering in that video makes me cringe now.
  20. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

I ended up here after Iain Simons wrote about Spheres of Chaos and an art exhibition at E3 for the first site. I still work for him once a year

Sorry to hear it, but I'm glad it's such a mild breakup, and you seem to be dealing well. I've had similar ones. ^ My entire teens Nowadays, long commutes do the same for me. I only got back into MTB as a year round surrogate for snowboarding, then realised that holy shit had I missed it.

I've only beat the end with the ridiculous federation cruiser. Like dibs says, take out the weapons at the front by killing the crew for them. They're in sealed compartments, so once they're gone, no one can get back into there and start firing the weapon again. Do it in a canny order: the ones near the edges will disappear first. Also, if you eliminate all of the crew, ship automation will take over and start firing everything again, so leave at least one alive.
