I'd describe it as a sexist phase rather than a misogynist phase. If I'd believed ladder theory and kept pursuing that line of thinking, I might have ended up misogynist.

36% here, and the media have been reporting the results as if they were a landslide for anti-EU, anti-immigration party UKIP. Their support actually declined since the last EU elections, but you'd think it was skyrocketing if you watched the news. I've turned away from most coverage in disgust, since there's been so much spin and bollocks attached to it. You don't even have to dig very far to reveal it. Here's a good takedown of pretty much every factoid UK media have been spewing: http://anotherangryvoice.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/local-election-results-2014-aav.html?m=1

You and Empty are right in making the distinction, but they all blend into one for me: misogynist assholes. I was in a very similar position to Elliot when I was twenty-two, but I recognised the common factor in many situations I didn't like was me, and decided to start work on that insead of getting angry. I'd flirted with PUA stuff but it never really made sense or harmonised with my character, and went on to learn that "talking to girls" is just "talking to people", but it doesn't work for anyone involved if you still have a bunch of assumptions and entitlements packed into your head. His connection to MRA/PUA/Incel stuff is being ignored or denied by a lot of people right now. There are MRAs claiming that if he'd just worked harder at Game or bought their product, that might have saved lives. There are a bunch of factors that contributed to this, including easy access to guns, but his connection to deeply misogynist bits of culture, borne out by the video in which he explicitly states his motive, is a really important one.

Hanging doors is a really horrible job. I can do it and I hate it. My dad was once a carpenter. One day he turned up on a site someone had referred him to, found out the job was to hang about fourteen doors, said "Sorry, I don't want this work, bye", and took the day off.

Apparently, PUA communities were hurriedly removing all of Elliott's posts from their boards last night.
  8. Feminism

The video was laced with the kind of rhetoric, and terms, that come from MRA communities. At one point he describes himself as "the ultimate gentleman" and "the true alpha male" before going on to talk about how he'll take vengeance on everyone (but especially women, which he describes by their physical characteristics or with the word "sluts"). But, this will be blamed on mental illness and access to guns. Not the deeply poisonous ideology he'd been steeping himself in for years, nuh-uh. Nor cultures that let men feel entitled to women's bodies in such a way that small manifestations of that entitlement pass unchecked every day.

The Daily Mail here has already branded him "The Hunger Games Killer", which does nothing except lead away from any pertinent issues and fuck massively with his family. It's saddening me that, even though he posted a video detailing exactly why he was about to murder people, there are still people claiming it's not an MRA-related thing. Much will be made of his Aspergers, which doesn't make anyone a threat, but people with Aspergers will suffer for that

    Sorry Ben.
  11. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

It looks like the only movements it can do are rolling around on the floor and twitching.
  12. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Jesus, it's like he's trying to out-liefeld Rob Liefeld.
  13. List of things that must be in blah

Or someone with Asperger's syndrome (not joking).
  14. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Wow. I'd managed to block out the Joel Schumacher film again. That looks like it should be covered in jewels too. I can't stop looking at the Knightquest cover. How did that get all the way through as many people as it needed to and end up on the cover? Is the blue part meant to be some sort of material? (Because it looks like someone with an airbrush and some latex mask was told "Fuck it, just do something to it!"). Why does his spine suddenly kink backward? Why are his head and the weird square collar thing off centre compared to the rest of his torso? It's such a shitty piece of art.
  15. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Why does it have some sort of fungus instead of pectorals and intercostals?

Yeah I hate the way video game studios lazily throw together engines, tool chains and asset pipelines without even bothering to check what's out there it's disgusting. That's one of my favourite parts of the whole post.
  18. Idle Workouts

Hmm, maybe the canals? I don't know Manchester very well yet, but I'm not far away (Todmorden) if you fancy some fell running (It's pretty brutal compared to the hills where I came from) Earphones are great for blocking out twats who shout from cars. Workout news: I went on a long bike ride and injured my foot :/
  19. Idle Workouts

Music. I suspect I might not need that now I live somewhere with a lot of good views, but it made a massive difference for me when I was running in cities. Also, keeping running to the point where you get an endorphin rush. When I first started it took some weeks of training and discipline before I got to that instead of feeling sick. Running with someone else is a great way to keep each other motivated, too.
  20. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

I think it is probably rare for people to buy more than a couple of controllers, even game developers I know. I've known even non-game dev people who take them to each other's houses for stuff like FIFA though. I'm a total anomaly along with other events people I know, because we all have sacks full of something or other. Wild Rumpus have a heap of DS3s and PSMoves. Sometimes I turn up to other peoples events with a bag of wired 360 pads, and they look so relieved

Shushing people from an affected group is seriously tacky, Architecture. Did you even read Merus' link?
  23. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

It happened, and I heard they were high four- to low five-figure advances against sales. Which was, uh, optimistic.
  24. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

They've gone very quiet. Tadhg Kelly has removed it from his twitter stuff and some other bios I've seen around, though it's still on his linkedin page as current. It's still in Kellee Santiago's twitter bio, but not her CV site. Rooted OUYAs running XMBC seem to be all over ebay, and are fetching better prices than they used to.
