  1. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

The same thing just happened to Iain Simons :-(
  2. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

    No, those're all joggers.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

I agree with both of you. I saw it on the plane to GDC, and it was lovable, but pretty forgettable. Like a diluted version of The Royal Tenenbaums. I liked it as entertainment (particularly the late shot moving from imaginary train compartment to imaginary train compartment), but nothing about it has really stayed with me or affected me.
  4. time to make some album covers

You get much better results if you tweak the rules to be able to select any image from the page.
  5. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Total bash-fest with doctored screenshots. In about ten hours of play, I've noticed one item of scenery pop in once, during a cutscene, and it wasn't at the focus of anything. My housemate is playing the PS3 version on the same TV, and they're close enough visually that you'd have to put them side by side and toothcomb them for differences.
  6. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Michelle is so so so My hunch is that I am usually wrong about these kind of things though. Perhaps

(This is an easter egg spoiler). Last night I got into a fistfight in the street, and
  8. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

The little time I've spent hanging around on streets in IV has been interesting, just as you say Wrestle, there seems to be a lot more depth. When I'm razzing around in cars it seems very like the older GTA games, but there's a lot more to the world when you stop and look. As I said before, I've been looking forward to seeing NaturalMotion's procedural animation at work in it too, and I'm kind of stunned at what a background thing it seems to be. Developing with it isn't cheap, and NM's promo videos plus the ones for The Force Unleashed all make a huge thing of it. In GTA IV, it seems like yet another detail that adds depth and is never put at the forefront.

Ahahahaha! Fantastic. Finally got my copy tonight. I don't think HMV were pleased, as their supplier wouldn't send them any more copies until they'd got rid of every last one, including the preorders. Ah well, not my fault if I was working out of town and their stock system is that stupid.
  10. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

Marek, sorry to hear about your 360 :-( Won't have access to the 360 version until tomorrow, but the PS3 one has settings for brightness and contrast - night driving is fine after fiddling with these.
  11. There is still hope!

There's more than just hope, many kids are adapting so fast, and becoming so different, that they're scaring their parents I was having dinner with a family last night, who had the bounciest, happiest five year old I've ever met. She was playing games on her older brother's phone, but when asked what she was doing, said "I'm playing games on Gerald's computer". Reminded me of Bruce Sterling calling mobile phones "a technological black hole" and running down the litany of devices they've absorbed over the past few years (link). But yeah, I agree with Marek. That little girl's grasp of physics, psychology and engineering is absolutely shit.
  12. So, this "GTA 4" thing then...

I'll be picking it up on Wednesday. I think my boss specially planned for us to put on an event in a different city tomorrow just to guarantee I wouldn't end up sitting around in my pants playing GTAIV all day.
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

Saw this too last week, it's an amazing film. People told me that it was very similar to No Country For Old Men, but I found them quite different. No Country seemed more open to interpretation, but There Will Be Blood is like a clockwork film, everything slotting together beautifully.
  14. SCi and Eidos fun

I know someone brilliant who works for Eidos, and his job probably falls under marketing :-(
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Surely that's just a prank spawned by some net-savvy misanthrope?
  16. I found even the infuriating bits of MDK2 were enjoyable. Jet packing the dog up the side of the curving tower nearly drove me insane at the time, but I still loved all of the green alien city bits. They were pretty epic for their time, and created a massive sense of scale. I thought Jesper Kydd's music was a good fit too, still have copies of it in my music collection.
  17. Both MDK games were pretty great, I hope they don't fuck this up.
  18. New people: Read this, say hi.

    Hello there
  19. Help me decide who gets money

Bit late, but I'd definitely go for GTA IV.
  20. Editorial: No Promises

link Oh man, that's so funny I started choking.
  21. LCD TV as a PC monitor, good idea or bad idea?

Resolution to screen size of HDTVs isn't massive compared to monitors or laptop screens. I find it very comfortable to work with as a second screen, though a little disappointing when I expect the screen at that size to be much more detailed than my laptop display. Check exactly what connectors you'll need: The samsung TV my housemate picked up a few weeks ago has a VGA socket on the back, but the accompanying audio connector is a TOS Link, meaning I'll have to fart around with a minijack to TOS converter.
  22. Yes, the Battlestar segments are pretty soap-like at the moment.
  23. TF2 Announcements!

Yes! Thank you. I went looking for more of these a couple of days ago, the plan is for all classes to have one, yes?
  24. Two, can you count to it?

Hmm, that thing is plasma and much bigger than the old one though I think I hear polar bears drowning.
  25. Two, can you count to it?

Wrestle, I will be twisting and writhing in a horrible fit of electricity bill envy. Soon. Soon.
