  1. Why so serious?

(Ok, there were 8 of us in the end, but the guy organising had to go to a later showing with a couple of other people ) I am impressed. Not sure Ledger is "better" than Nicholson, because the tone of these films is so much darker. I far prefer him and this lot of films to the last ones though. Excellent
  2. Why so serious?

I was going to see this with a load of friends tonight, but they all said "I'll get my own ticket"... now it seems I'm the only one who managed to get one in time
  3. Why so serious?

Last time I went to an Imax screen it was for a matrix film; it was 8 stories high and I got neckache because I kept having to turn my head to see different things in the shot. I also got distracted by learning that Keanu Reeves has a line of three blemishes on his chin that aren't apparent at standard definition. The spectacle of the action on a screen that huge kind of made up for it being a disappointing load of bollocks though

  7. ‫‬‭‮‪‫‬‭‮Mirror's Edge

Yes, I think he used the unicode (‮‮ mirroring charachter. ( So it affected the text snipped out for the main page. it's a pity it doesn't affect the whole thread
  8. Avast, it be Thumb Island!

I'll fire up my dusty PC at the weekend for a look. i like the stereotypical professor hair on your avatar
  9. The official 'Welcome N0wak to London' thread

It's one of those things that's pretty insignificant statistically (of course, lives ended are not). Kind of like terrorism in the US - everyone is shit scared of being blown to smitheereens by some flavour of fundamentalist, but statistically you have a much greater chance of being shot dead by the police over there, or struck by lightining. Rail crashes happen, and they shouldn't, but they're not that common relative to the number of train journeys that occur every day.
  10. The official 'Welcome N0wak to London' thread

It's extremely rare for a train to crash over here. I've used them all my life without so much as a near miss. However, when they do crash, it's epic
  11. E3

I doubt any revelry of consumer facing stuff will ever do it. GDC is what inspires developers, because they talk about development, rather than sales, publishing contracts, paradigms and realising synergies.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

"It's their film not my book... actually I disown the book now they're republishing it with mention of the film on the cover" has kind of become his schtick. Justifiably given From Hell and The LEague of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but I didn't think V for Vendetta was a bad adaptation at all. Haha
  13. E3

It seems E3 is now really, truly, catastrophically fucked. The no-shows list was unthinkable in previous years, and most comments in advance from people this year were basically "I'm glad I'm not going".
  14. Glorious crap!

    Holy shit! :0
  15. Rhythm Tengoku DS!!!!

    That looks beautiful
  16. Dr. Horrible!

and er, other sites that rely heavily on the bandwidth of strangers.
  17. THE MEDIC IS REAL.

Having a unique test of some kind makes a lot of sense.
  18. E3

Cammie Dunaway talks about NEW PARADIGMS
  19. E3

(Oh hey spambot. How's it going? Generating lots of sales today? Good). I found this summary of Nintendo's press conference this morning:
  20. Rumour: Third party 360s?

This is just a rumour: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168394 But it would be genius. It would greater enable hardware to adapt to the end of five year cycles, mitigate problems like the RROD, allow all kinds of platform tweaks and revisions by third parties (*cough* Blu-ray 360 *cough*), and further help to shed any residual nerdy image gaming has, because third party manufacturers are likely to try all manner of convergence and aesthetics.
  21. THE MEDIC IS REAL.

Offering porn for capcha solving is one way, and throwing increasing amounts of processor power at being able to read them with software is increasingly another. I've come across captchas that are too hard for most humans to read, and if that's what's required now, the concept is obviously fucked. Yes, that's been implemented at the Black Cat Forums (the mod team, not the torrent site - a lot of newbies sign up asking for warez...), so that the first five posts of a user can't contain links. I think that'll either be a third party plugin, or a modification authored by the admin over there (He's pretty techy). Seconded on leaving the links too. Banning does nothing to discourage the spammers, because leaving the posts/links up actually gives them google juice, encouraging them to come back, sign up again, and post more.
  22. 1UP Cakes

I made these for the one year anniversary of my local DS Night, and just put up an instructable for them too.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

That's already an incredible realisiation of some of the visuals from the book I watched Hancock this morning. It wasn't brilliant, but it was alright, and had some genuinely funny parts. The way they set up the antagonists was pretty good too. Nothing in it was new to superhero stories, but I thought what they did was nicely slanted away from what's gone before. Edit: I see it only averaged 49 on metacritic, and looking down the list it seems it's definitely a marmite film.
  24. Dr. Horrible!

I thought they really failed to round out captain hammer in any way, and by the time his song was in full swing it was outstaying its welcome. Overall though, I think
  25. Where is everybody?

On the quiz, I don't think they'll be turning people away on the night. I gave the organisers a heads up about an Idle Thumbs team possibly coming along.
