  1. This has been in my pile of shame for a few months now, I fought the clown once then couldn't be bothered. Since we got a HDTV the text will now be readable, so I'll give it another go.
  2. Braid

I'm not going to bother with the stars, and just did a few searches for the alternate ending but couldn't find it. Link pls?
  3. coign of vantage

    more congrats
  4. coign of vantage

Quite lovely and a nice idea. I find I generally don't actually have to look at the target image, since the scaling on the pixels almost immediately reveals an axis that makes it apparent which ones need to be closest to the camera and which furthest away. A raspberry icon confused the fuck out of me though, since it was almost round and very much the same colours all over. I think I got about 168,000.
  5. All the machines hate me

Also try a linux live disk if you haven't. (and make regular automatic backups in future!)
  6. Braid

I finished it last night. A most satisfying experience, given that I once spent a few years reading up on the Make sure you get the secret text in the epilogue. My interpretation: (IMO) ----- I managed without walkthroughs, except for one puzzle that broke me: It was just incompatible with my firmware. All the others were 15 minutes maximum, but I banged my head on that one for about 1.5 hours, at one point even making the game crash, before giving in and taking a sneaky look at youtube. Even then I still didn't quite understand until I'd attempted it a couple more times. It was the final puzzle piece, and I feel a little bit dirty as a result Despite my weakness there, an immensely satisfying game to play though. The bosses were fun, and I also really like that the time rewind mechanic allows it to get away with some insanely finicky platforming at points without becoming frustrating.
  7. Braid

3 worlds in, and I'm enjoying this incredibly It has me reflecting on a number of things. It was said in a story telling session at Develop that people get inside characters very quickly, and this means attempting to get them to empathise with the protognist is doomed - it's far more effective to build empathy with NPCs than get a player to look at their own motives from afar. Braid seems to be doing it though, because much of the game is about everything that has happened to the protagonist outside of whatever present moment you're playing him in. The burning city and the ambiguity of his plans have set up far more interesting hooks for me than most (in fact pretty much all) games can. This might bite me in the ass if it doesn't have an incredible ending, but there's a lot of eloquence about Braid, like the way it's sometimes The aesthetic and soundtrack are really relaxing too.
  8. XBox Live gamertag exchange

Finally, I sprung for a wifi adapter. Mainly because of Braid.
  9. Asplosions might happen - forum upgrade!!

I had a dream last night that I had to fill in four or five different captchas, do some maths, then solve a riddle to make a post here
  10. He shows real commitment. I'd hire him
  11. Expensive Peripherals #1

I am looking forward to this Will there be videos?
  12. They're like fucking Zerg, and that's almost appropriate ¬¬
  13. Quality Idle Thumbs ad

It seemed pretty quiet on the spam front last week.
  14. Snuff Box...

I can't believe I'd never head of this! It's fantastic.
  15. Is Braben losing it? ...and other musings.

To be fair, I always want to pick his talks to bits because they have such a shitload of handwavey, unsubstantiated statements in them, but that was actually one of the most sensible parts of his talk. Data on pre-owned sales would be useful to publishers and developers. That said, all I could think about during most of that bit was "Fucking hell! Halve the price and you'd probably sell more than twice as many!"
  16. DEVELOP CONFERENCE: SOCIAL RETARD WATCH

He is indeed. It's about the 12th time I've spotted him. (and my thanks to Spaff, for posing as if I was photographing him instead )
  17. DEVELOP CONFERENCE: SOCIAL RETARD WATCH

Spotted: The man who started this thread.
  18. Develop Brighton - anyone coming?

: I completely forgot to pack any underwear, so missed the start of the Bioshock keynote this morning while I was off buying some more Bumped into Spaff on the way in, but it was too crowded for us to hear through the doors at the back. : I jammily landed on the pub quiz team for a certain small and well loved British indie developer last night, and can exclusively reveal that they are going to record an album named "Deathcock". (Mark Morris is going to be the drummer)
  19. Where is everybody?

The same thing happened to us (Rare/Pixel-Lab) in the plasticine round, that fucking wooden spoon trumped us all. We didn't have an artist on the team for the screenshot round, so someone drew an FPS perspective shot of Gordon Brown approaching No. 10 - putting the Monkey Island UI on the bottom with options like "Tax", "Ignore" and "Revoke freedoms" seemed to get us big points for it though. It's all politics
  20. FUUUUUUCK!!!

They occasionally do this if the power connector isn't in properly. Mine has briefly shown a red ring twice now (each time making me scream "FUUUUCK!"), but unplugging the power from the back, waiting ten seconds, and replugging has worked. It got through 80 hours of GTA IV without a hiccup after both of these incidents.
  21. Japanese Radio

Yeah, I have friends who've learned Japanese and Dutch, both by moving to the countries. One said Rosetta Stone is good, though people who learn with just that apparently tend to forget fairly fast without practice. I used to read a lot on feral children. Beyond a certain (very young) age, if a human hasn't learned language they basically won't, so a lot of feral kids (either isolated in basements, raised by wolves, etc.) can only growl and learn a few words in their whole lifetime.
  22. Develop Brighton - anyone coming?

    I'll be there.
  23. How are you guys? ...we're fine.

Does anyone else unconsciously absorb accents? My family seem to do a it a lot; if we're around people with accents we seem to start reproducing little bits of them immediately.
