I loved this about first few games, that with a good team you could all communicate, specialise, and absolutely kick ass with coordinated attacks. Backing a team mates attack up by dumping grav tanks full of anti-vehicle troops behind the enemy, then watching them lose most of them in a retreat rather than all of them in a rout was great fun. I saw DoW2 briefly at the Eurogamer expo, but what I saw seemed a little disappointing compared to DoW. The art and animation in that one was brimming with detail and character; is 2 comparable in that respect?

Idea: zip tied lamp post signs in Baltimore that point to the worst neighborhoods and say "The Wire: The Experience. This Way".

Oh man, I've not seen that since I was about 9 or something I'd completely forgotten that the car was a hot rod.

That looks like Stuntcar Racer. Was it just called Stunts in the US?

I'm really pleased to see the amount of attention this is getting going up and up

Yeah, FFS. Spoiler tags please, some of us haven't completed it yet.

I don't know him very well (we had him over to Develop last July, and I saw him at a party last GDC too), but as far as I can tell he's not too bad at them. He's an interesting and thoughtful guy, though occasionally just disappears to do some Tai Chi I liked this bit of the interview:

They should do an episode where Sam leaps into Kaz Hirai's body and completely turns their fortunes around

Ah, sorry. Wasn't referring specifically to the show, but to the bubble that just burst. CDS, subprime, securities, hedge fund performance... 50bn ponzi scheme, etc.

I think virtual is the right word though. Investment and wealth have been totally divorced from production and real work.

Yeah :/ I was planning to start saving heavily, but right now I have no debts and the next few months are so uncertain that I see no point in anything other than living up to my means. Certainly not a good habit, but neither debt nor savings seem a very good idea right now. The bailouts seem like pissing in the wind. The DOW and the FTSE just remain stubbornly low at around 8000 and 4000 respectively. Given the amount of virtual wealth that's going to have to be written off (banks are *still* playing hide the toxic debt), I can't see any bailout a government can afford really making a difference to confidence. Maybe it's a good thing, an equaliser. So many developing nations are going hell for leather to reach our standard of living, and it's not really been attainable without vast amounts of debt.

Mine too, separated for years while their house just went deeper and deeper into negative equity. IT was a wierd relief when the divorce finally went through. Rusalka, I've been thinking pretty much the same thing. Things are pretty bad due to some very stupid, greedy, selfish people fucking up, but it seems unlikely that we'll struggle to eat or anything.

This one is especially good

I think he was being sarcastic, he constantly touts the 360 as supreme

Amiga Power was amazing! You can still find Dave Green on the London games scene sometimes, and I'm not sure what happened to Jonathan Nash, but he did work on this fine and upstanding website for a while.

Grand Thumb Auto X: The Fellowship of the Thumb
Nachimir replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Almost certainly not; I'm guessing the mechanics and possibly wheel position+orientation propagate over the network, but cosmetic damage is done locally. The way you can distort the chassis and wheels of a vehicle is GTA IV is pretty cool; I once tried to drive a car between a building and a concrete table at high speed and ended up with an unsteerable, wedge shaped car that had both the front wheels pointing about 45 degrees inwards. That ice cream van video is one of the best deformations I've seen -
All games press competitions are a lie. Amiga Power still owe me a stack of Amiga games for "Zeewolf In the Style of The Clangers" and "Micro Machines In The Style Of That Time Rich Pelley Drove His Mums Car On The Beach At Weston-Super-Mare And The Tide Took It Away".

Grand Thumb Auto X: The Fellowship of the Thumb

Hmm, yeah. Filming is a good idea, especially when you've finished a race or been eliminated from something. -
I would like to recommend The Junior Christian Science Bible Lesson Show. It was on Screenwipe a few weeks ago, and is piss funny

It's my dad's birthday today, so there's only a 50/50 chance I'll be around. -
Evil trick Alanis Morissette: My Humps <-- no, really. It's brilliant. Drunken, exploding Hokey Cokey Elmo. They got the length of that fuse just right. Endless cheesy CSI Miami one liners, vomit ASAP and wash taste away with this bit of Weebl and Bob.

Just... erm... er. I didn't think it could get worse, then the lyrics kicked in.
