  1. Well... people do get schooled
  2. Yeah, he said that pretty near the start of his GDC presentation. Love has a nice aesthetic which is why it's getting so much attention, and his tools really were impressive, but he came across as a bit of one himself.
  3. GTA Chinatown Wars

The GPS in this one sometimes picks absolutely mental detours to get somewhere.
  4. Yes All the games last night were a massive amount of fun. Getting to run James over with a fire truck just before crossing the finishing line in 1st made my night. I think sniper works much better with only the leader blip sinc we have to rely more on our wits and surprise is more fun. Toblix, you were evil in that rocket match
  5. Michel Gondry 3.1

Spike Jonze and Chris Cunningham are pretty well known ¬¬ I had all three at some point, then saw that there were more and kind of thought "This could go on forever" and stopped buying them. The Spike Jonze one was really disappointing I thought, hardly anything on it. Gondry was definitely the best of the three. Synthetic, thanks for the pointer to his new one
  6. Should be. This week, I'm determined to manage more than 60 seconds in a fire engine.
  7. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    Fucking mesmerising :0
  8. No it was Nachimir, and it is apparently a "period" Russian name That's the page it originally came from, and lists variants Nacimer, Nachemir, Natzimer and Nasmiriz. I picked it by scrolling up and down the page quickly and randomly until a name jumped out at me. Not only did i like that one aesthetically, but I quite liked the meaning too since at the time I'd just solved a very difficult and troubling problem.
  9. iPhone/iTouch gaming

Everyone around me with an iphone seems to be addicted to Flight Control at the moment. It's very well designed.
  10. I was looking for a name to use online about a decade ago, and it came from a dictionary of Russian names. I suppose it might be a really old and no longer common one, but I just don't know.

  12. Heh, didn't realise one of IGN's own had also fallen for it too. There was this a few hours after we registered it: http://twitter.com/wanyal/status/1363413613 and this: http://twitter.com/fizziscool/status/1507697878 (Infovore was there when we made it too, he came up with some good ones and was determined to get away from "this game will"). BTW, since my name is Russian I believe it's pronounced with a ch as in natch, latch or charity. Most people seem to say it with ch as in Bach or Moloch though. Duly noted.
  13. Free to play hunting game -- The Hunter

That could be good. Stalking through the bushes looking for dilophosaurs and velocirpators. Saying "Clever girl" just before getting eaten. Yes. Emote have an office in the same town as ours, I'll suggest it next time I see them

  15. Life

Good luck with the job hunt, not such a good year for it. I finally got these bastards finished. It's been such a long, erratic and continually tweaked spare time project that when I got home after working on them all night and day yesterday, first words from my housemate were "You look like you got laid. And like it was a really good one".
  16. GTA Chinatown Wars

Has anyone else played around with the chainsaw? Flying cartoon limbs and splatter is a seriously weird thing to see on the DS
  17. That changes according to environment too. One games programming course I know of currently uses UEngine for student projects. They tried Source first, but found authenticating and keeping it updated on around 80 machines was a nightmare (at the time, about 4 years ago I think).
  18. It's very short, funny (especially if the music ends during the boss fight) and has a character called Tyrannosaurus X
  19. Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar

    RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR *COUGH* *COUGH*
  20. Yeah, definitely, though often it's naivety rather than arrogance that sets a mod teams ambition so high. Black Cat placed quite highly in the MSUC with Alien Swarm, but the reason for that was because about half of the team had full time development jobs, and were that obsessed with games they wanted to produce more in their spare time. It was around the time of UT2K4 that art asset demands outstripped the capacity of most voluntary teams. This also meant that projects that were possible for a mod team around 4 years earlier were slipping out of reach, but a lot of teams didn't really see this. Mod teams tend not to have producers, and ambition has not adjusted in step with spiraling art asset costs. Interestingly, a lot of people I knew on the festival circuit still had hope that mods would be an arthouse for games, and made sounds of shocked disbelief whenever the subject of a declining mod scene was raised. If people want to do arthouse, they're better off learning C++ and making small things from scratch. A lot of mod scene observers generally don't realise that engines tend to verb lock you into making certain types of game.
  21. Grand Thumb Auto XXII: Blixkrieg

I think those races were the best ones we've had I didn't realise the first one was an ice cream van race; was having a conversation with Max so just hit ready. You guys managed to fuck me up in some awesome ways, including Wrestle blowing me off a bike with a grenade, and Toblix nudging me into a barrier and over the side while I was driving a turismo
  22. Anti-terror nonsense.

Magificent, elmuerte Looking at the original, I particularly hate that they framed that with a mother and pushchair in the background. It's really getting down to tabloid levels of shitty manipulation.
  23. Life

Life at moment: I started renting a studio with two other guys, because I'm fed up of making things my room (shared house). It's dirt cheap, huge, and excellent to not have to pack everything away and tidy up after working for a few hours. Having actual project space to learn things and make stuff is awesome, and being able to leave it out means I get into it faster and a lot more done. Yesterday I got some furniture moved there, and now have somewhere to sleep if I get stuck in the city late and can't be bothered to schlep the 2 miles home (can shave half an hour off my morning commute too if I take an overnight bag). My bedroom has also become an extremely tidy place to relax, instead of having piles of half-built, half-learned things everywhere. On the downside, my love life has been abysmal for the past year. While I like my friends, the groups I'm in are pretty static and I'm not meeting new people. When it comes to bar and club types here, I don't think I want to. Time for classes, or becoming more talkative, or something ¬¬
  24. Life

People claim to have walkthroughs. Don't believe them, they're talking nonsense.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

The only moment when it seemed itself, for the entire three episodes, was when Lister got Rimmer to thrust against the corner of the table.
