The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
Nachimir replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
I've not heard anything else quite like christ, you can kind of tell he's one half of Boards of Canada. These are some of my favorite and most similar though: Max De Wardener does some great stuff, particularly this track. Warm Math by EU is an excellent album; for electronic music, it's warm and relaxed with none of the harshness or coldness many artists have. Biosphere are ambient and more proggy than most, Translation is a good start if you can find it anywhere. It's hypnotic and meditative, similar to Cliff Martinez' Solaris soundtrack. I struggle with Jetone/Tim Hecker, because while he's brilliant, listening to a lot of it will make you fucking miserable. One of my friends described this as "the loneliest sound he's ever heard". Marumari are like a twee, laptop bothering antidote to that, as are the excellent múm. I've not started exploring his other stuff yet, but recently have really loved this John Tejada track too. -
It looks gorgeous. I find steampunk pretty hard to grok, because it seems like it's just an aesthetic. Cyberpunk led me to expect it to have some kind of design or political manifesto, but after years, I just can't see one.

Sure, let me know how much the postage would be and we can sort it out.

I have wanted a ffffound account for so long... we generally avoid it at work, because it's an absurdly addictive timesink.

Sorry I didn't make it this week, I'd been awake for a stupid number of hours and just collapsed on the sofa. -
Brilliant Nevsky (and Dan, who posted it on facebook too). Rodi, my friend Catherine is living in Amsterdam at the moment. She said it was something like 28% who voted for Wilders? It's scary the far right can garner this kind of support, but only a minority of those voters are actually going to be fascists. Parties like the BNP have a pretty good history of fucking up and generally disgracing themselves. Given economic circumstances, I expect this is a peak for them... unless the world economy just keeps on getting worse.

Greeeeeat... Say hello to the "misinformed" generation

Lovely. Why stop at Wikipedia when you can expensively botch education by feeding it through every fad as it happens? -
I could use those! I want to make rotary controllers, magnetic doorstops and crappy speaker arrays out of old hard drives, but can never get enough of them. How much would you want for them with postage? Or are you anywhere near Nottingham?

Is that the series where they ? If so I remember reading one of those when I was 17, and always meant to go back to them. I also just finished The Time Traveller's Wife, which is science fiction as it should be. No babbling or exposition about imaginary technology, just a very strange proposition projected into people's lives. It has some beautiful circular loops in it, such as I'm now about 100 pages into jPod by Douglas Coupland. Apparently he got a job at an EA studio to do research for it, and it's like all the tales of crunch, excess and bureaucracy I've ever heard from the games industry rolled up into a hilarious ball. "Where's [so-and-so]?" "Oh, he went out to tag freight trains with some guys from IT last night and they haven't come back yet".

Lack of sleep may have zombulated me by 21:00 GMT, but I'll try to be there. -
I suspect this is the patent equivalent of chaff.

I tried to read it, and less than one chapter in I concluded Hitler was a whining, sniveling bastard, and couldn't go any further. It was like a 1930's emo livejournal. It's pretty dire and windy rhetoric, IIRC amounting to "noone understands me! :violin:" with added racism

No, favicons seem to be missing.

Am I smarter arse for pointing out that 720p and 1080p images aren't interlaced? Or that the save options for various file formats do allow for an interlaced sequence of data?

:(:( and :(:(:(:( If I could spend my life punching each and every one of those 120,000 BNP voters in the crotch I would. Absolute fucking cunts. The BNP make my skin crawl enough, but I was reading up on them the other day and as soon as I saw them using the words "that does not mean that we accept miscegenation as moral or normal. We do not and we never will" I retched.

I also bagged a free ticket. Nicely overwhelming and loud action sequences, but: - ridiculously tough vanilla humans with inexplicably pearly white teeth for a bunch of freedom fighters. - FFS that's almost as unforgivable as Jar Jar Binks. The ending is so schmaltzy that I started imagining it read out in Team America voices and giggling.

You're not allowed to show it to people without their permission OssK.

I am feeling the same way. I'm not even going to hang around for breakfast ¬¬

Why did they have to work in secret through the first films?

I once knew a DJ in a club who did that, and lasted about two weeks. It was hilarious. At first we thought he had a little sound bite to throw into his set, but he was actually saying "DJ DAN, DAN, DAN DJ DAN" into the mic

Activision sues to stop release of Brutal Legend
Nachimir replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
A publisher's job is to make as much money for themselves as possible. This generally involves fucking over developers in all kinds of ways, so I'm not surprised at this. Publishers do messy, horrible deals that leave developers at a disadvantage, such as trying to retain as many rights as possible and sometimes being vague on them (They also rarely say no to projects being pitched at them, which developers should never misread as a "yes". They just like to hedge their bets and keep communication open, so will string a developer with a prototype and some IP along in case it suddenly becomes popular). It's not in their interests to care about skilled developers when they're only looking for yearly growth and can use marketing to shovel lots of shit into people's faces. Investment is more like a twitch game than, say, the way any of us might regard a small business we'd founded with long-term sentimental attachment and plans for growth, so it's not that unusual for a publisher to look at cashflow and suddenly nix projects or even whole studios. Sometimes they're gambling as much as they're planning, which requires cutting losses rather than seeing games to completion. They don't give a fuck that canceling game X will put a studio out of business and leave a load of developers looking for jobs; it's not their job to give a fuck about that because it doesn't result in any quick gains for their shareholders/owners. I understand why Activision are doing it as a business, but it makes me want to not buy any of their games. It's like they're trying as hard as possible to present themselves as a bunch of evil twunts, because it immediately comes off as bellicose, shallow and possessive in the wake of announcements that Brütal Legend has so much voice talent. It's interesting that there might have been rumblings of this a while ago, but I don't see them fighting over rights to 50 Cent, Ghostbusters or Chronicles of Riddick. Tim will have been in a very awkward position, and I think however this turns out he's obviously done the right thing in pushing ahead, as it keeps his studio afloat, the project running and his team eating. -
(link) Saw this last month, it's pretty good  I think it's a pity they're (apparently) doing an English Language remake, as it really doesn't need it.

What a bunch of fucking whiners.

That's some absolutely excellent animation

Haha, that was awesome. Don't stop
