  1. Paid avatar clothing.... sigh.

Where's the hate for PS Home in this thread? OssK, I see your point, but you're being very black and white about it. Yes, there is money-making shit in the games industry. There is money making shit in every other industry, too. Things spread out into cultural spectrums, they don't migrate toward cultural ideals.
  2. Life

I think there's already a lot of hope for you in the fact that you see this.
  3. (IGN.com)

It's actually got to the point where we can't make up funny ones faster than they do. I have a text file with a queue made of some of my favorite made up ones that haven't been posted to the twitter account yet, as well as all of the real ones with links. There are more of the latter; it's like IGN have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into it recently
  4. (IGN.com)

I'd hope that's the reason -- "So damn good I refused to admit to anyone that I had a problem" - IGN.com
  5. Life

After being all over me for a few months, the girl I love and have known for a few years has started shutting me out, but says everything is fine :/ I want to make things work, but it doesn't take large amounts of passive aggression to push me to the point of saying "fess up or fuck off"
  6. (IGN.com)

There's no review or preview for that game on IGN ¬¬ What kind of advertiser/developer would aspire so much to have an IGN quote that they'd make one up? Or perhaps they picked IGN because noone would really care or be offended if they got found out?
  7. Life

You've an astoundingly chipper attitude for someone who's had that much crap happen to them this year.
  8. Eurogamer Expo 2009

Yes! I'll be at both, since I'm working on them.
  9. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

Oh, I interpreted it correctly but thanks for clarifying Rumours can be interesting, but I'm not convinced at the value of gossip; it can undeservedly ruin people and is so often nothing to do with the facts.
  10. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

I've looked twice and can't find any reference for that at all. I remember hearing it at the time the story broke, but it's almost certainly scurrilous. Sorry for spreading it a bit further :/
  11. New people: Read this, say hi.

I did the very same thing at NaliCity once, in a thread where a bunch of far right religious nutters were ranting. Almost wished it wasn't an accident
  12. PCs and Consoles and Clouds... Oh My!

I've switched almost entirely to consoles. I can't be arsed with maintaining a gaming PC, or the expense of upgrading it every few years. I miss getting stuck into a good RTS or FPS with a mouse and keyboard, but not enough to start sinking mooney into hardware again. Way to fisk elmuerte
  13. Moon

I saw it for the second time tonight. Like a lot of SF it has a few conceits you have to overlook, but it's worthwhile. Might be worth a trip up to London to see if you have the cash. Also, of anyone likes the poster for it, you might also like these alternative olympic posters.
  14. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

Maybe so, but people are still very pissed off with the IGDA over it.
  15. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

Oh, him contradicting the quality of life campaigning of the IGDA by supporting 60+ hour working weeks, and then talking about how good Epic are because they make people go home to sleep if they're still in the office at 2a.m. Also, allegedly, saying that they like to hire people who are having marital difficulties because they know they'll want to spend more time at the office. Saw a few people referring to that, but can't find it in print right now.
  16. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

This should be talked about more widely, IMO. I spoke to a TIGA board member this week who hadn't heard about this, or the Mike Capps thing. Pretty important news that an organisation that campaigns for developers rights has people on the board who seem to be contradicting the org's causes.
  17. (IGN.com)

So, noone understood how the round worked, but it didn't matter because all the quotes had them in stitches. Especially the real one about having your face blown off by maximum awesome. There's video, soon.
  18. (IGN.com)

So we're doing a kind of panel after hours at the develop conference tomorrow, involving beer and competing teams taking the piss out of the games industry. If I get my way, there's going to be an IGN.com round using a lot of these quotes (with a nod to the Idle Thumbs forums). If we video it, it's also likely we'll have to take that bit out for legal reasons Also, this picture will be in it at some point:
  19. (IGN.com)

An extraterrestrial FPS that will shatter your perception of reality.
  20. (IGN.com)

"It's really disturbing and repulsive... at the same time, it's kind of compelling" - IGN.com From the Dante's Inferno video toblix linked.
  21. Little Big Planet

They're committed to their tools, and several sessions and interviews I've seen state that they actually insist on their level designers using the same tools as the users. It's not like their programmers and designers don't invent new stuff, but if a level designer asks for, say, a special scripted event, it's my understanding that they're politely told to fuck off and work out how to do it the same way a user would have to. Also: Gastronbury and a pink wig. Coincidence? I think not
  22. Miffy managed a good ambush on me in the industrial district, which was also the precise moment you heard me muttering "Oh you bell end" I'd managed to stay on my Sanchez for the whole race, was in 1st place on the last lap, and Miffy (a few places behind and at least one lap) had positioned himself near a corner on a part of the course that went off road and inbetween buildings and pipelines. There weren't many options for avoiding him while still getting the checkpoints, so he popped me with an SMG and took my bike, leaving me with a Faggio and second place
  23. How do TVs work?

I wouldn't shit it. There's not much you could have done to protect it than just not watch during the thunderstorm, and the surge protector should have saved it anyway.
  24. I think that was a round of cops and crooks where I was driving the police car in pursuit. We didn't see it, but got there just after and I was thinking "WTF?" as I tried to get through then drove around One for all is definitely better than the all for one setting: prolonged matches, splitting up can work better, more action, and much less likely that a lucky passing shot by the cops can't end the game immediately. Toblix also managed another bit of hilarious stunt driving while we were crooks, taking a stunt jump in Bohan far too slow, sending us plummeting toward the water, then actually landing on a tiny dock and following up with a moment of Austin Powers reversing to try and get the car up a ramp that was far too thin (That was the game that ended up with Nevsky chasing just me).
  25. Squashing us against the back of the boat with a fire engine was amazing
