They sometimes have raves in some shallow caves and clearings near the university here. It can be really hard to find out about them, but they're usually incredible.

Holy shit! Good going As soon as I'm done with the batman, I'm straight back on this.

The level called Baal? You can drift toward keys by repeatedly switching layers. Switch to the safe one whenever you're about to drift into spikes, then jump and switch again to start drifting away from them. Takes a bit of practice.

As far as I can tell, the time fuck refers to the story rather than the mechanics.

Idle Thumbs 43: Jeff "Gone" Goldblum
Nachimir replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Hey, Chris mentioned only having a finite amount of gargoyles to hang crooks from. You can cut them down with a batarang though, allowing you to make a pile of them underneath a single gargoyle. Pretty sure a headfirst fall like that should be lethal though, so yet again the bat murders. Also, my brain started eating itself during the reading of that fire truck game idea. Each recurrence of "just like real life" felt like a fleck of anti-matter popping into existence, erasing treasured memories and vital motor functions. -

If they use a lot of wifi or start arsing around with GPS, they're lucky to get 4 hours. Software updates may have improved this since, as I was speaking to them about it more than 4 months ago. They tend to carry chargers around with them though, and charging once a day seems to be the minimum. To be fair, I also know people with iphones that tend to run out on them before they're done with a days work.

I'm tempted with an android phone in a couple of months too, though I'd go for something other than the G1. Quite a few of my friends have them, and the battery life is atrocious even with only infrequent use of wifi and GPS.

quaint hacky solutions that we're proud of or amused by

That Gama article was in Game Developer earlier this year, and is absolutely hilarious. We lived with a fascist cleaner. -
There was one I was trying to remember earlier, from before the 3 years or so in which I didn't post. It had to do with a censored word, and everyone asking why it was censored, and noone answering. Thanks, Grouchoclub, now I remember it:

Sorry pfactor, but kill it kill it kill it with fire Listing something that occurs naturally is just a bit... like a gig where people look at sheet music instead of listening.

Played through it until just after the first Scarecrow bit last night. Holy shit! I'd hoped that detective mode would have more meat than just following trails and effectively being a giant hint system "Take this guy down!" "Climb this!", but the rest of it is so good it hardly matters.

About 4 years ago, deciding that the internet was more important than bathing for a few days: Our ISP went down, and the only nearby open wifi could only be picked up in the bathroom, so we had a wifi dongle on a piece of wood sticking out of the window, and a machine in the bath feeding the connection to a router for rebroadcast. -
Professor Layton game as a present for girlfriend?
Nachimir replied to Irishjohn's topic in Video Gaming
Yes, Professor Layton probably a good buy for your girlfriend. It's very easy to pick up, and has a really good aesthetic. -

http://botherer.org/2009/09/12/far-too-many-words-on-derren-brown-the-lottery/ <--- Interesting argument that Derren Brown, with that "explanation" special, is basically now perpetuating the kind of magical thinking he purports to debunk, so can sod right off.

Groucho, do what you need to but be careful. Coming off anti-depressants where possible is certainly something I'd encourage (Likewise not feeling ashamed of taking them if you need them - the stigma around it is such bullshit). One guy I know found he could come straight off his if he made time to do buddhist meditation as a substitute every day (and he's as irreligious as they come, he sees meditation as a very practical, psychological thing, rather than turning it into hippie bullshit). --- Today, I absolutely killed my former best half marathon time (1h55m) by clocking 1h42m. I'm well chuffed considering I managed very little training and was getting rid of a cold this time last week (my legs are fucked for now though). I reckon if I train really hard next year, I might be able to beat 1h30m.

Woo I can see how this would get annoying, there are a few people on my list who just want to get through levels and don't care how many faults they get. When you're trying to minimise faults, a 30 minute time limit seems like a lot of time though. Saying that, I haven't tried extreme yet.
