  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Favorite film: There Will Be Blood. I've met quite a few people who's reaction to it was "huh?", but I love it. The characters are bastards, the film comes together like a clockwork mechanism, and there is no moral except maybe "Don't be like this people". In a lot of ways, it reminds me of an original fairytale.
  2. Comics

Meanwhile by Jason Shiga. It's a choose your own adventure comic, but done beautifully with visual threads and tabbed pages rather than fiddling around with page numbers. Not only is the layout insanely complex, the plot revolves around choice, memory, probability and causality. Apparently, Jason pretended his first comic books were released posthumously to try and build a cult following, but it didn't work and now everyone knows he's actually alive.

Oooh catchy  I'm discovering a weakness for JRock: VeIk_s6X8n8 Fun fact about Bump of Chicken: Their name was meant to mean something like "Cowards Attack!", but their English wasn't so good j9rrVZIlpJA RSi6YFVKAPI
  4. Limbo

From academic bedrock of a source Wikipedia: So they either tried very hard to wiggle out of their own misdeeds, or got completely fucked by the agency model. I wouldn't be surprised at either, I know one developer who went to meet an outsourcing studio in China, who were proudly showing him their portfolio right up until he stopped them with "My studio made that. That's from one of our games".

Thanks, that was a strange and entertaining way to wind down the day after getting back from holiday. Also, someone had got me listening to The Pillows just the day before

  10. Canada and specifically Toronto

A friend of mine went to Eastbourne to study, thinking it'd obviously be cool because it was near Brighton. His words: "There are two types of people who live in Eastbourne, the quick and the dead, and the quick have zimmer frames".

  13. Afraid I won't be anywhere near Cannes, I'm going up to Val d'Isere for some snowboarding. This reminds me, has anyone seen or heard from OssK recently? I haven't seen him here for ages.
  14. One week, it'll begin and we'll just know.
  15. Minor detail I forgot: I'll be in France that week (20th to the end of the month), but don't mind missing it if more people can make that week.
  16. Sequels, Sequels, Sequels

Eventually, this man will go out in public and be mistaken for a suicide bomber.
  17. I think that's a good idea. Miffy, will you be around the week after?

  20. I might be around, but if so I'll be late.
  21. Life

That's really interesting, and familiar. Is there anything you've found to break it down a bit? Bar work got me over a lot of it, just by forcing me to interact with people and watching them trying to pull each other. Also, something an ex-girlfriend (on very good terms with) told me that helped: "No matter how filthy a thought you're having about a girl is, if she's interested she's probably thinking something far filthier about you". It never becomes completely comfortable, since it involves a fair bit of vulnerability. I don't think the moment when you go in for a first kiss ever gets less terrifying, and once you accept that terror it can make it really enjoyable. :0 Sorry to hear that. Burn it, it's the past. Just because one did it to you, doesn't mean they all will.

Yeah, when it comes to making new friends, then regular events, classes, etc., are the best. If one doesn't stick, no worries, you can try something else. Again, just as with attraction, don't get hung up on befriending anyone in particular, it tends to happen naturally. You'll meet people you think are really cool, and it might not be mutual (Vice versa too). If you have enough friends that have a mutual interest, then setting up and running something yourself is also an excellent way. Honestly, setting up a boardgames night was the best thing that ever happened to my love life, but only because I'd built a fairly large and fairly gender-balanced group of geeky friends first, which gave it a massive kickstart. It might also have coincided with me generally becoming a lot more relaxed about romance etc., but it nonetheless provided a really low pressure environment to meet and talk to people. If you're in London, I'd highly recommend Sandpit. It's interesting and absolutely mental.
