That was a handy place for New Scotland Yard to be. Glad you got your bag back I only had some tequila regrets the next morning.

Anyone else notice that the oil camp is called Plainview?

I'm currently playing this too, but don't have much to add to the thread. I'm also trying to avoid spoilers too, after reading it a few weeks ago and spazz-clicking* on a major one I like that the wilderness is populated with random encounters; the kind of things that you could plausibly notice out there but that would be completely lost in a place like Liberty City. *Is there an inoffensive term for this? I'd like to know.

Any chance of a twitter list of all the players?

If I remember, I'll post it when I get home. There's something about it in the introduction of The Book of Grickle.

Well done! Prepare for everyone here to pester you with medical questions.

I helped to make this machine: 1qg44L910r8 Here's the weekend where we built it: umMB2Ray_pU I'd have rather had it without cheesy names painted on everything, but hey there were two dozen people there and some of them needed something to do.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Wow, thanks. That 13&God track is incredible -
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. On the one hand you seem to be saying "They don't make proper games", and on the other you seem to be saying their only audience are people who play "proper games". Various members of TGC have said said in public, several times, that they're not going for the same kind of hard fun you get from a well designed traditional Video game. Personally, I think it's great that a commercial company can find the freedom to explore game design like that, rather than doing this. I've only met Jenova really briefly, but I did spend an hour or so once discussing game design with Robin Hunicke and she's super smart. What they do is far more than a reinvention of 90s multimedia projects. I've also sat people who don't play games down with Flower; they immediately found it accessible, loved it, and were perfectly fine with figuring out what to do next at any point. I don't mean to come over all fanboyish. I like Flower, but it's not the kind of thing I'd sink 80 hours into, whereas things like Fallout 3 are. I just think you're really catastrophically selling TGC short.

The one with the floating face at the end is the scariest.

I think I found this on a Prefuse 73 album; it's by Doseone, also of cLOUDDEAD and Boom Bip: mQYgXMXOh_w -
I'll be trying not to get drunk since I have a busy weekend ahead of that. We're sure to be there that late though. I'll PM you my number just in case.

Like some other commenters there, I'm not sure that's the real Adam Coate and not someone trolling with his name. Not entirely implausible though; he does bring some quality crazy to comment threads. The idea of TGC sitting down and deciding on Flytrap as excellent inspirational material is pretty hilarious

Hahaha These games are spawning some quality entertainment, thanks.

I do wish I had an RSS reader that could automatically filter out non-jubilant stories on tax breaks, as well as detect and filter out stories about platform holders slinging mud at each others launches/products. Also, Michael Pachter.

Ok. Here is a self indulgent, life is awesome post just for you me: After years of not really doing much except work and read, I decided around last August that I'd try to do more physical stuff. Since then I have: * Started learning contact juggling. * Started learning staff. * Started learning to unicycle. Progress is very slow and difficult, but I can go about 15 feet without falling off now. * Kept running a board games night in a cafe, based around interesting board games rather than the mainstream UK/US tat. It's been packed nearly every time, with people running out of tables and chairs and setting up more games on the floor. * Learned to snowboard, went to the alps, hurt myself moderately (six weeks of difficult movement), and it was totally worth it. Not only is boarding incredible fun, but I've seen few things as beautiful as snow covered mountains in the sun, or descending in whiteouts. * Taken up a martial art based around street fighting, with no sporting elements whatsoever. I've been doing it for six months, and now when I'm in dodgy situations I feel I've got at least something backing me up, rather than just bluffing my way out of them. I've also found it reassuring that I'll do whatever avoids violence even if I can perpetrate it; one of the reasons I didn't study anything like this before was that I was afraid it would bring out more psychotic/sadistic bits of me. So far, it seems to be tempering them instead. * Learned to ride motorbikes. I don't have one, yet. * Bought a mountain bike. It's the first time in a decade I've had one, and in two months I've racked up 580 miles. Bikes are excellent, I get into town faster than the bus and it's getting me really fit. Even on 23 mile commutes, the average door to door time is only 20 mins to half an hour slower than it was on public transport, and it doesn't cost £10 a day. * Helped to set up a local group for hacker and maker types, and in the past few weekends we built a great big Rube Goldberg machine (videos soon). * Gone through a decidedly amicable breakup with the motorbike/martial arts girlfriend. It was a nice relationship for a while, but as far as I can tell, we were both getting a little bored of it. I'm also looking at powerkites, and have a small one just to learn how they work, but would like to build up to kiteboarding next year, plus we're going to be doing stuff with kite photography at the hack group.

It was a pretty obvious pre-election promise that was going to be broken

(This is the only forum I've ever been on where people don't complain about threads being resurrected . Have never understood why people complain about it elsewhere). I got fairly sick of both the Simpsons and Futurama, but I'll give it a chance though. Probably didn't help that I once borrowed box sets of every season of Futurama, then binged on them for a few months, but it seemed to overstretch characters and jokes a lot of the time.

I would like pretty much every "self help" author to be eviscerated, so:  I love that one thought ways to be happy worth imparting to others were "Call the police after witnessing a crime" and "Avoid exposure to toxic chemicals".

That's right, in Nottingham. It's an indie game developer's conference at Channel 4. If you google it, you get Russian brides though.

It'll be good to see you again Ben! Dan also claimed on Twitter that it's fancy dress. Feel free anyone, but I don't think most of us will be

One day that guy's going to watch himself in that and cry, if he hasn't already.

Maybe the people who don't like the sound of Scott Pilgrim are right about their own tastes and instincts, and won't enjoy it, so maybe we don't have to try convincing them they might

Aha. If they can't make it stealthy, make lots of things that make the same noise. Cunning. Also, aaagh:
