This is from the "Big list of what Notch has actually said" FAQ: It would be incredible to climb high mountains and cliffs. I want to go mountaineering in Minecraft. Actually, that's an epic project we could do on the new server: Make an amazing landscape with valleys that reach down to near bedrock and hills/cliffs that poke into the clouds. Waterfalls and rivers going all the way to the bottom. With biomes, we might even be able to build glaciers and snowcaps near the top. Hmm...

Please don't put a highway through my garden Edit: I have plans for the big stone crater behind my tower and, basically, that area square on the opposite side to the lake. If any infrastructure goes through there, I'm likely to reroute it.

Heh, nice. Thank you Kingz. So, you're Hoatzin? Anyone else under different names here and there?
-
Sure, I'd chip a little in
-
I think we keep this until the update, and document the fuck out of it. I'm all for ripping the corruption down and helping to build something better. I'll contribute all the obsidian I have left after ripping down the floating castle sections by my tower too.

There's not just a sad, sad tale but a ballad in this.

Lava recedes for me too unless I collect it in the right way.
-
I just logged in and Jennoa mentioned to me that the column lava generators still work, just slightly differently. Tested it, and you can build one in the same way, but leave the dirt in place, and it will work. You'll just get lava cascading down all sides rather than a straight column.
-
Exactly how SomethingStupid states it above, with the two block columns of dirt dug out from underneath blocks of lava. Edit: If I get the chance, I'll have a mess around tonight to see if I can find new way.
-
Something happened to my lava farm in the server reset. The three columns of lava are now surrounded on all sides by more lava, kind of like this: 0\ 0| 0| With the 0s being the blocks of the original columns. The pit it's in is also full of lava now too. It was still generating infinite lava when I checked it last night.

Yeah, getting connection refused too

Yeah, I get regular horsebag and wizard associations. Thumb ones are rarer though. There are several times I've had to stop myself from humming along to a mental soundtrack of "Wizaaaaa-aaa-aaa-aaard" in public. What I have found is that I talk about Thumbs a fair bit and recommend it to people, mainly because it's a literate community about games that doesn't have many dicks. Yesterday I found myself recommending ysbreker's Minecraft server to three friends just because it's full of amazing stuff and players that are respectful of each other's stuff. (Isn't Transmetropolitan fantastic? If you like that, I'd also recommend King City by Brandon Graham. There was a Tokyopop volume of the first six issues, but the artwork was too small and it was a ball ache to read. This year, it got reprinted as individual issues at a much larger size, running straight on into the last six too. It's brilliant, like the demented culture of Transmet but with the feel of a much calmer city).

Kingz, your place is fantastic. Me and a friend explored it tonight, I accidentally destroyed a couple of boats earlier today but dropped a load more in the chest by the base of the lift tonight. Two questions: How on earth did you find nearly 2000 diamonds? I take it you gave them to yourself with admin commands? How long did it take you to coax grass all the way down to the bottom of the map?
-
Was it you who also said that somebody's boat had been burned down too? I saw chatter last night about trees having been set on fire as well. Nervous about building stuff now if someone's being a dick : (

Soz! I picked up the spelling from the post above. Similarly, I've noticed people also tend to use phrases in birthday messages on facebook from other posts already on the person's wall.
-
Also, because I made a lake before understanding how to do it properly, it's now become an excellent egg collector:

We were playing with the lava trick, and elmuerte discovered hover lava It works really well! I've recast the base of my tower: Casting obsidian vertically with a reservoir unplugged at the top of a column works too:
-
Just tried it, and it worked! Thank you.

Yeah, it's not like Valve made it. They're just shark jump enablers. I am getting a little tired of mods which are just "Unexpected things in Left 4 Dead", but that goes for most if not all of the mashups that poke all our hipster reflexes in general, regardless of medium. This made me laugh a lot just now though. Maybe it's a coincidence and he really was building in rows rather than columns, but either way it's pretty good.

The Minecraft soundtrack can be found through here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=29387 Not sure about legality, but I'm guessing it's okay since the thread has stayed up on the Minecraft forums for a month. The musician also tends to put stuff up for free here: http://c418.org/ Anyone know how it's triggered in the game? It seems to be infrequent; I wondered if it was when the sun and moon are at their zeniths but haven't made time to test it yet.

I watched a little of this over someone's shoulder at the Eurogamer Expo, and it was one of the few things that caught my eye. The sequence was a lot of Tomb Raider style running and jumping along a huge aircraft that was falling to bits and smashing the tops off buildings. Didn't get a chance to play it, but the pacing and the aesthetics both looked wonderful.

Yeah, I was trying a 2x2x1, but without two corners filled then knocked out after the two buckets are emptied, they don't work properly online. I looked into obsidian manufacture, but it seems all methods for generating lava are out of date, so it's easiest to collect lots of lava, then cast layers of obsidian exactly where you want it. Makes sense, since it takes 15 seconds per block to mine.

Thanks Patters, got it. Most tutorials showed it being filled without the checkerboard, which works offline. Found this excellent tutorial on engineering stuff with water too: UTzgqpDZkpE

Anyone had any luck with 2x2 infinite water sources? I've tried to make them, but they don't seem to be working on the Thumb server.
