All done with the jumping Megaman yesterday. I think I might make another on the new server, and just make it single sided; falling water works for the dark blue bits but the other side being visible through the water really fucks with it overall. It can be seen from the road between the Empire State and the lava pits.

Good luck, and thanks Rodi. Ordered a full face helmet this morning; one near miss is enough. Also, I *actually* have a stiff upper lip right now
  3. Happy Birthday!

I didn't realise it was your birthday Ys. Happy yesterday!
  4. minecraft server new world?

But it still wouldn't generate all of the incredible things we built, right? Or can it compact an altered world down to a seed?
  5. minecraft server new world?

Kind of, but surely that just means we get the terrain, not what we built? I suppose we'd get to keep the massive cave system.
  6. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I remember having a BTTF book when I was a kid, full of stuff about special effects, props, trivia, etc. One half page was a photo of Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly, and (IIRC) a fairly fluffy article on why he didn't make the cut in the end. Certainly not as brutally honest as what's in the video above. I always wondered what his Marty would be like, thanks.

Hey, this is Matt, and I can vouch that he is not a wanker Only a limited time left to see all of the awesome stuff we built. Is there any way to keep the world data?

Today, I got an unexpected phone call, a mate asking me if I fancied going mountain biking in the peak district. Lesson of the day: Be very careful on unmaintained downhill runs that are graded black. I'm going to get better off road tires before the next time we go out. I don't know what happened. It was so fast, one moment I was looking ahead on the trail, the next I slammed into the ground. At first I thought I'd blacked out just before or something, but the guy behind me said I went down in a split second. He couldn't tell what happened either; something appeared to take my front wheel out. Fortunately*, my body was shielded from the impact by my face, but I also hit my chest, shoulder, knee, wrist and thigh. No permanent damage, but I was lucky not to break anything. The scenery was good enough to take my mind off it for the rest of the ride

    Yes it will:

Damn, nearly finished it but have to go out:
  11. Hot scoops from inside EA - honest....!

People do this weird thing at shows and conferences. They're exhausting, and a lot of people get incredibly wired trying to keep up by the midpoint. I wouldn't be surprised if it were cocaine, but I have met personalities that big all by themselves, and have also seen non-flamboyant industry friends get that hyper and give similar interviews at shows. I think it might often be an odd combination of media training, exhaustion and the games industry. Video is pretty painful by the point he starts squealing "Warham-mer!".

Draw distance set to normal for the third one. Also dug a shaft straight up from the biggest lava chamber, and built a giant stone arrow so we could see it on the next render. Then crafted a compass, turns out it comes up just a couple of hilltops NW of Patter's castle (Edit: looking at an old render, it's probably even closer to the empire state).

So, tonight I decided to convert the tunnel of monotony into a canal. As I was building scaffold near Jennoa's end, I heard skeletons, so finished flooding it, built docks and boats, then went to check it out. Found a dungeon, took it out and got us a couple of pig saddles. Then saw it flowed straight into a cave. Found a zombie dungeon a little further on, then more caves, and more and more... Anvil joined, and we both started exploring. Jennoa found a spider dungeon, then it kept getting deeper until we were finding diamonds. We've been at it an hour and the system is still going. We're leaving most stuff in place, but so far I've found 9 diamonds, some plentiful looking gold veins, massive lava fields, and really tall natural waterfalls.

Where did you find it? You can easily make blocks of natural stone by putting cobble through a furnace.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

They're not a reproduction, they're a prop for the film. Pretty common for things like this to go for silly money at auction. What I really like is those photos of them now: Pretty weird to see an 80's vision of future shoes decaying 20 years after they were made. (I'm glad we don't wear shoes that remind me of 80s bathrooms and the artwork from the credits to Saved by the Bell).

^ This. Especially with a server reset looming. My tower is pretty much done now, with a large tree and floors inside. A couple of secrets too. Patters, I hope you don't mind, but I diverted the end of your road to lead to some bridges over my lake.

I saw the new community chest, and am kind of in awe of the small fortunes you all seem to have. Put what I can into it. (I've tried reproducing the server lag thing Kingz got all of those diamonds with, but always end up losing the items altogether. The best it gets is occasionally getting duplicate diamond tools in my inventory)
  18. minecraft server new world?

I just ran around in it for five minutes, absolutely no appreciable lag at all. Currently 01:00 UK time, if that matters. I think I was the only person on the server.
  19. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

    Thank you.
  20. I am Iron Man (Is there a doctor in the house?)

What are the potential side effects? If you were in a lot of danger, it's highly unlikely your GP wouldn't impress the seriousness of the situation on you. Nonetheless, might be worth double checking just to make sure there's no mistake.

    ^ Smiley please.
  22. Minecraft

Lets create this with dynamite at some point. Fjords! I like this; I'm totally putting a cloud room in my tower when I'm finished with the tree on the lower level.

We'd need to dig down to the bottom of the world first. I don't think I could do something on that scale alone, but some enormous collaborative earthworks might be fun. We'd have to pause every so often to deal with lava, water and monsters At the end, we'd have a landscape unlike any other Minecraft server. Imagine taking a water elevator up to near the top! It'd be something like a cable car in the alps. -- I wrote about Minecraft for work today and namechecked Idle Thumbs: http://www.wearemudlark.com/blog/minecraft/ Some extra notes in a comment at Gamasutra: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/DavidHayward/20101012/6182/Minecraft_Claustrophobia_on_the_Frontier.php I didn't link to any of these threads or the server, just because putting stuff out that visibly might attract asses or vandals.

Yeah, having a new render every so often is really useful. Thanks Ys. elmuerte, love the Idle Thumbs logo Cool Very yes I've been thinking "Candy Mountain" for the beta, but don't think I'll make it because it'd be horrible. It would be a bunch of signs leading off into the wilderness, then the Minecraft equivalent of losing a kidney happens if you go in the cave at the end.
