yeah yeah, I hate this crap. The so-called designers came up with something like 'hey, what if you were running around with a gun and there were monsters, and hey, lets set in on mars or something!' And the actual games id made were fun because carmack made then fun. He's a brilliant games programmer, and that means more than some airy fairy designer who did a bit of putting crates in levels or something. He just knows that the crux of designing a good game is the programming and tuning of the game system, not the nice pictures you put on top. NB I don't really want to start an argument here, I just have the opinion that games design != art style

it looks like an ad to me. Can an ad be art?
-
And I don't care what anyone says, Zelda2: The Adventure of Link was brilliant and epic.
-
the DEMO contains ads? I wont be trying this one.

It seems like it could work to that aim, editing swearwords from speech and stuff like that. oh yeah, sorry.

Classic Videogame characters: Should they keep their trap shut?
baconian replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
All the ones you mention should, insofar as they currently are, yes. Also Freeman. I wouldnt have thought of mario as silent, though. Playing sunshine, you're constantly bombarded with wooo! heeheee! It's a me-a!! heeeHOO! weeeeHiiii!! wOOO... hup hup hoooo! and so on. -
hmm. So, for that reason, you mean, it's impossible that nintendo, with their billions of dollars, couldnt possibly get it working? Because they're not gods. OK. HOLD IT! That statement is clearly contradicted by, mmm, eh. THIS!
-
So, since lots of you guys were credited on psychonauts for some reason, is Doublefine working on a beetlejuice game? If not, I don't get it. Huh?
-
Yeah, I too see him at parties sometimes in my dreams, bitch.
-
I really amn't looking forward to Fran Walsh mercilessly tearing apart the carefully crafted canonical dialogue from the game.
-
You mean there's some secret Schafer-net that the thumbs crew are hooked into? Man, that's so cool. You guys rule. I just fell off my stool.
-
OK, now I get it. I really should keep up with all the threads here. Or maybe not.

mmm so many talking points. I though corey feldman was michaelangelo. And his line 'the pizza dude's here, dude!' from the 'burbs was really good. And families should be given the choice between the turtles arcade game and the similar simpsons one. And that trailer looks great. And the two original turtles movies are both class. And April O' Neil is the shit. And prince valiant was worse than the last series of tmht cartoon series. In fact, it was the worst cartoon series ever made. booyah:bac0n: .

yeah, I'm a cunt. Totally unavoidable though. The crazy thing basically leapt under my back tyre from the undergrowth.

my mum got two cats there a while ago, and now there's six cause she waited too long to cut up the special bits of the girl one. Anyway, I recently did my first roadkill, and it was a cat. I regret it, I couldn't have done anything about it. Spaff may congratulate me, but I'm not proud of it. To conclude, I psychically sent the spirit of the dead cat to the smallest of the four new kittens in my parents' house, so now every time I look at it, one of its eyes gives me the jitters and I remember the bad thing I did. It's called dylan, but I think of it as Isis, cause I'm an idiot, and now that I've checked on the internet, the egyptian cat god is actually bastet. Fucking bastets, cats.

No. You guys should definitely fix those heads now, though.

Snakes on a Plane (and Gnarls Barkley)
baconian replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Movies & Television
Holy crap, Sharks on a plane, you're a genius:partyhat: -
Yeah. Watch the first series, and the first ten episodes of the second series, and then stop. That's the real ending. And don't forget to have donuts and coffee and pie at the ready when you watch it.

I thought that was a doctored Jeff Buckley pic when Tim posted it.

You've got a big nose, dude. Very Uderzo. This is my band (we are now no more, alas), and I'm at the back.
-
Well, it's like when you buy a CD off a band at one of their gigs. You know? I was just being facetious. But you're more willing to trust someone if they give you a bit of themselves, and experiencing their game goes a bit towards that.
-
Maybe it's because you've played their games, and the communication of the artwork on some level has communicated a deep understanding of the honest Valve ethos that somehow can't be faked. So you are willing to trust them far more than you would a faceless marketing company. That's what happened to me, anyway.

I suppose all three, really. It was hard to put my finger on it, initially I meant old-fashioned, but underdeveloped is really what I was getting at. I wasn't really surprised by anything. The intro was different though, in the bar. I would hope that they use that sort of gameplay situation later in the game.
