This looks great. It's hardly a rip-off of LBP either, things like this have always been appearing down through the generations, make your own game tools. Boku looks more general-purpose and less stylized than LBP, and to me, that's more compelling, so I hope it lives up to its promise and isn't appropriated and ruined by some cunt producer who wants to take credit and turn it into a poo.

In a way, I think I was lucky, as I only had a brief foray with working in the games industry. I came to much the same the conclusion, but in hindsight, I'd be much more amenable to the idea now after a couple of years working outside games. The problem is, lots of smart people come out of college with the idea that working on games is the nearest thing to using their computer skills in a way that most resembles being a rock star, and then get their spirit crushed in a software assembly line operation much like every other big software industry, only you get payed less because you're supposed to 'have a passion for games'... Anyway, the idea of founding some sort of entertainment software company has taken on more of a sheen than it had for me, compared to being some sort of code monkey for some 'visionary designer'...

The good thing about this game is that lots of people seem to bringing up the fact that Raven's Jedi Knight games from years ago did the jedi thing a million times better. Anyone who missed them should check them out, I look back on JK2 with the same sort of nostalgia that the original trilogy still holds for me, Kyle Katarn is a really memorable character, and you can use lightning and still be a goody, sweet!

ninja gaiden 2 is 360 exclusive. free network play on ps3. Those two things dominate the argument for me, if neither are important to you then I would say neither is the decision.

until you get a new graphics card, plug the monitor into your motherboard instead of your graphics card and use whatever updated graphics drivers for it you can find. most mobos have onboard graphics acceleration nowadays so you should be able to play older games too.

Yeah, only 7 levels is the worst thing about it. It needs a level editor.

you're both wrong, it's great. What's so good about context-sensitivity, anyway? Pet peeve. There are shitloads of moves you can acquire, and if you like stealth, you'll like this.

All I can say is, they better be selling merchandise for this on the DFAS before the game comes out (inevitably some time in 2010...) because my wallet is already bursting for a Brütal Legend poster or something.

Me too, thanks for the reminder. Inspired by your post, I enjoyed reading this nice big list on the internet just then. There's a couple of sweet games that had escaped my attention, that's always good. But there's this one game, not on the list, that's nagging my memory now, it was a 2d platformer, I know it's not out yet, and I saw it on some award site for winning a runner-up prize for the most promising games or something. The levels are very black, and the whole level rotates and you have to negotiate the platforms utilising physically simulated blocks and things falling around based on the rotation of the level. It looked pretty stylish and compelling, there was a flash video on the game's site. Anyone remember what this was called? I couldn't find it myself.

I'm already excited about GTA4. 7/10. And the tingly anticipation of my first next gen console choice is looming. I'm seriously considering a ps3. The wii doesn't really interest me, even though I've always been a nintendophile. I just don't feel part of the expanded audience, I guess. The clincher is that I know the ps3 will have everything that the 360 has, plus some great exclusive stuff. And Sony has so much clout in the movie industry, the bluray player may turn out to be a good idea.

teehee, you fell for it! but seriously, I thought Harmony of Dissonance was more or less just a rehash of the old nes things you're talking about, but once I put an hour or so into aria of sorrow I was hooked and it turned out to be one of the deepest platformers Ive played.

And Arnie's DVD commentary is the best ever. It beats spinal tap. Honestly.
