That is the most disturbing thing I've ever heard.

I was the world's worst roommate in college, with 13 roommates in 4 years (I stayed for the summer semesters, hence the high number). After my first year with the same roommate, I decided the only way to live comfortably would be to assert my ownership over the room. So every other roommate I was stuck with learned quite quickly that he was a guest in my living quarters for a semester. I had some pretty wacky rommates. There was Ubek the Uzbek (he was from Uzbekistan), who was an okay roommate during a summer semester until he was deported (he was in the US on a government scholarship, when his government ran out of money...doh!). But my favorite roommate was the guy who slept all the time. I mean all. The. Time. There was a five day period when I never saw him awake. He make have gotten up at some point, but he never did it when I was around. I used to watch loud movies with friends over in this tiny, tiny little room we shared, and he'd sleep straight through it. He was great because he slept so much that he never bothered me. He moved out at the end of the semester so he could live on the "quiet floor". His reasoning? "I like to sleep." I also smoked out a few roommates...I only got smoking roommates, but even they weren't prepared for my chain smoking habits from those days. When you're trapped in a room the size of a closet with someone who smokes over two packs a day, it can be tough to handle if you're not used to that sort of thing. Generally however, I loved college. Aside from the fact that I met my wife and several of my closest friends there, I was able to study at length what I wanted to (philosophy and religion), something I haven't had the luxury to do since. Plus because of my wacky major, I never had to take math. w00p.

I don't think that's the case at all. I should have liked both BG&E and PoP, but I didn't because of flaws in the games themselves. Likewise with many of the other games people mentioned here. Gran Turismo simply doesn't appeal to me, and I said as much.
-
The level design in the first game had a lot of cheating to give the illusion of more content (repetition repetition repetition). But it was still a great game IMHO. The sequel's good. Better in most respects.

I think Halo's excellent (not groundbreaking, but really polished), but I'm totally with you on the others. After playing through MGS2, I think I've pretty much washed my hands of that series. The plot went through so many outlandish twists, that it rendered the series a joke. I can't take it even slightly seriously anymore. I tried playing The Twin Snakes and stopped after five minutes. And I've never understood the appeal of Gran Turismo. I won't say they suck, as they're just totally not made for me (the same can be said for pretty much any sports game). They're ultra-realistic games that have you driving in a circle. Whee. Not my cup of tea. I'll take Wipeout or Burnout over that any day of the week.

Okay, a retitling of this thread to make things completely clear: "Games most-but-not-everyone likes (but in my personal opinion suck)" Better? Anyway, re: BG&E: I don't understand how anyone could play that game and NOT think it was rushed. The game HAS NO ENDING, people! Playing that game, it felt like the last third (at LEAST) was dropped. ...and it was. The game was rushed to make Christmas (well, for a game that had been delayed multiple times, i guess 'rushed' may be a poor choice of terms), and it not only affected the game itself, it killed it in the marketplace.

Actually, technically there is no heaven in Judaism. Nor is there a hell. There's purgatory, which is sort of the bad place, and there's that whole Moses will come back and we'll all rise from our graves thing, but no real heaven. The whole jewish afterlife can read like Night of the Living dead sometimes.

By "runs like ass" I meant that in the negative. I really have to keep up with the lingo. Do kids still say "jive"?
-
Oh whatever. Half-Life 2 was going to run like ass on NVIDIA cards, remember? That didn't pan out either.

They've gone too far this time... (The Apocalypse is Nigh?)

Not just a little, it was their direct influence. The original Batman: TAS is probably my favorite animated series of all-time...good lord was that amazing. Believe it or not, The Batman isn't terrible. It just isn't very good. I actually like the character design. My biggest problem with it is the fact that *everyone* is like a kung fu champion (I mean really, did the Joker have to be a judo master?) and the general in-your-face attitude. Oh, and the fact that everyone *has* to refer to the character as "the batman" because it's the title. Nobody ever just calls him batman. Yeesh. Otherwise it's rather enjoyable. ...but it's nowhere near the genius of B:TAS. Or Superman: TAS. Or Batman Beyond. Or Justice League. Or Justice League Unlimited. It's not even remotely close. -
Sam & Max 2.

Welcome to the tribe. Show up one of these days completely covered from head to toe in a black dress and say you've rediscovered your roots, and you're ultra-orthodox now. Then proceed to rattle off something that sounds like klingon and say it was a reading from the talmud, before accusing her of being an anti-semite. Good times.

His sexuality is never really addressed in the movie (it's hinted at very subtley, but that's it), although T.E. Lawrence is generally thought to have been gay.
-
My wife hated Lawrence of Arabia...she pointed out that the only women in it are the ones in burkas that holler as their men go off to war. Before that, I'd never even thought about it. For a movie about a gay man, it certainly does have a lot of testosterone, I suppose.
-
I doubt it. I've given that movie many, many tries over the years. It's one of my sister's favorite movies. Now you see, those are two of my favorite movies. To each their own.

Granted, it's been more than twenty years since I would have read it, but I could have sworn there was a third book that took place in outer space. Or was that just the second one? I just think it's a lousy movie. Most people I know (american or not) like it, so it's hardly a fault of my country of origin. But really...as a musical it's painful, the acting is hammy at best, the sets look like they were pulled out of Laugh-In, and don't even start with me about the Oompa Loompas. The movie's only real value is as a stoner movie, and even on that level I can't see the draw. I'm not saying I think the Tim Burton movie's going to be any better, but I don't think it has a whole lot to live up to.
-
...or a third. Was there ever a fourth? I only read three.

Since I'm somewhat connected to the movie (via the game adaptation) I can't really say much of anything, but I will say this... 1. This isn't a remake: it's an adaptation of the original book by Roald Dahl. 2. The original movie sucked ass. Seriously. I don't understand why people like that movie so much. It was terrible. It's painful to sit through, and had very little in common with the book it was based on. Hopefully Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the name of the book, not the Gene Wilder-centric movie) will be a bit better.

I'm a big fan of Logitech's cordless PS2 and Xbox controllers. The latest ones are the same size as the DualShock, run for 50 hours on two AA batteries (twice that with force feedback turned off), and they're pretty darn durable.

Again, ditto with the iPod. My PC and Mac both recognize it as a HD without having to install anything (well, in the case of the Mac it's cheating, since it already has that installed anyway).
-
The iPod can be used as an external drive also. That's the only thing on that list that appeals to me. I guess you could use it to record MP3s with the belkin add-on, but why would I want to? As for OGG, MP3 and WAV, you can use the latter two with an iPod, just not OGG. And I don't care how good the files sound, Ogg Vorbis is the dumbest name for a file format ever. The iPod is a hit because it's compact, sexy and doesn't suffer from feature creep like some of these other swiss army players. As it is, I don't expect to use the photo viewing functionality on my iPod much, if ever. But the color screen sure is gorgeous, and I love displaying the album art when playing music. Plus it was free. But this is my third iPod, following a 5 GB first generation, and a 15 GB third generation.

Seconded. My 40 GB iPod Photo eats Zen Micros for breakfast. And it drinks beer.

Mola RAM! Mola RAM! Mola RAM! Welcome to the path of darkness. (Sad note: the actor who played Mola Ram died last month)

Welcome to the other side of the fence. So what's your position? Is it eeeeeeeevil like mine?
