Splintering off from the zork test thread, I present the Completely Fake IF Game Thread. The game will begin with the next post. Everyone either do a "move" or write a response and let's see how weird we can get.

This thread seems to have gone beyond the bounds of the cordial. Can't we all just get along?

Yeah, it's not. Sega US passed on it. I saw it at E3 and it looked kinda...awful. Previews I read in Edge and elsewhere weren't very encouraging either. Oh, and... Rise from your grave! Had to do it. Again.

It took me a long time to get past #6...check the IFRAME for additional clues. Now level 7, that one's *really* hard.

Yeah, that's a big problem too. There are a lot of games that have good ideas, but can't follow-through on them properly. Black & White's a good example of that. And actually, so is Fable (not to be overly harsh on Molyneux or anything).

I cite the case of Katamari and Damacy as proof that isn't true. The bigger problem is that many new ideas kinda suck.

I tried that with no luck. Actually, I've changed motherboards, so I'm no longer using an NVIDIA SoundStorm...maybe it'll work better now.

For SS1? I know there's one for SS2 (although I've heard of people having mixed results with that). I tried to run SS1 using DOSBox, Win95 compatibility mode, every possible workaround I found on VOGONS and lots more before giving up. I could get some things to work, but not everything, and I'm really anal about having the gameplay experience be exactly what the developers intended (yes, I'm an idiot).

I have an original CD version, but even though I tried my damndest, I couldn't get it to work under XP in a satisfactory manner (IE: with movies and full audio at full speed).

I'm all for releasing games for free (or at least as pre-order bonuses, like Sam & Max for Armed & Dangerous, or as part of a CE like Pirates Gold in the Pirates CE) but sadly, publishers balk at it most of the time. There are a lot of problems...who's going to support a free game is a big one, but also legal issues pop up often with the developer. That's what prevented EA from releasing System Shock 1 for free...which I *almost* had happen back at Blue's News. It killed me when that fell through. As always, blame the lawyers.
