Prosumer: http://www.boston.com/business/globe/articles/2005/06/13/are_you_a_prosumer_take_this_hand_quiz?mode=PF I've been sort of lucky with the local suburban game stores. Clerks here and there seem to know their stuff, and a couple at an EB near my parents' home seem to have the same obscure game tastes as I do. Strangely (or not), they're all female. I don't know what that tells me about my tastes.

The only "geek" shirt that I have -- other than my really old <body> tag shirt -- is my Rock Paper Scissors Society shirt which I wear to show my support of the society, the sport, and the world championships. It's a pride thing.

As someone that has managed to avoid all of the Battlefield games so far, the snipers aren't that major of a nuissance. Enemy snipers will annoy you far less than soloing team-mates that can't even be bothered to pick you up in a vehicle when you're out in the middle of nowhere getting shot at by some distant sniper. The game is good, but like many online games, the quality really depends on the server and the people playing in it. I was in a 32 vs 20 people game the other day

Wow, they've evolved this game. Back when it was first announced (and denounced) in, like, 2002 or 2003, it was *just* 9/11 Survivor. Certainly, at the time, being closer to the actual event it drew a lot of ire. Now... not so much.

I haven't played the previous Battlefield games, nonetheless this is about what I expected it to be. Different roles. Different spawns. Different weapons. Not much cooperation online. Yadda yadda, same old. Not that it's bad or anything, I can see it becoming addictive for a few weeks, but I've seen this game before a dozen times over.

I'm confused... this is OK, and yet they ban Grand Theft Auto in (a small part of ) Japan? I can't figure their culture out

Started with Ice Age and ended sometime after 6th edition. A friend of mine works at a card store, and everytime I visit him I'm amazed by all the completely unfamiliar and weird Magic sets out there. I sold all my cards long ago, though I still have most of my Star Wars CCG cards. Never did get a Darth Vader card, though, damnit. Had his ship, though. As for now... I played one game of Scrabble last weekend. That's about it. The good thing about PC/video games is that you don't need to have friends to be able to play them.

The scariest thing of all... me, coming out of the shower Watchout, or that untrimmed goatee will devour your soul! And since I don't have a flashlight, I had to resort to evil looking finger-over-the-flash special effects.

THE FEAR!!

The writer of that article is writing a book on the subject and is documenting stuff at his weblog http://longtail.typepad.com/the_long_tail/ Check out the first entry there -- 3D printing elements from 3D games. How it applies to games? Here's one opinion http://hello.typepad.com/hello_nintendo/2005/05/nintendos_long_.html And this was a good article too http://economist.com/finance/displayStory.cfm?story_id=3936129 Hooray for niche markets.

Based on your other "internet links" thread, this comes via waxy via me, I presume.

Yeah, no shit. Look what happened to Nintendo after their Spaceworld Link vs Gannon demo... which very directly caused the retarded "celda" backlash

What's funny about this is that the most Christian movie of last year was also one of the bloodiest and most violent films of the year.

Yes, but as I said, why would you want to? Watching DVDs with a PS2 controller is like paddling a canoe with a butterfly net. Sure, it WORKS, but awkwardly.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason that Microsoft did it this way is because to have a DVD playback device is to have a DVD license... which costs extra. So Microsoft, rather than eating that price in the cost of the system (which would have caused them to lose millions more on top of the billions it already did), it was seperated. Which I think is fine. I mean, you can watch DVDs out of the box on a PS2, but unless you get a remote, why would you want to? And it's not like the remote is free either.

Screw installshield... NSIS is where it's at. Free too.

Even better -- an extension that builds on top of Greasemonkey http://platypus.mozdev.org/ The link to install is kinda fucked, but here is the proper one http://mozdev.elliptic.fr/platypus/platypus.xpi I just used it to make this annoyingly not-big-enough text box to be bigger. (it says undefined because I reloaded the thing to take a screenshot)

Are you talking about the face plates? Judging by this http://www.hellogamer.com/2005/05/08/first-look-at-the-xbox-360-skins/ they probably aren't going to make it much better. This isn't necessarily just an XBox thing, as pretty much anything that is skinnable has hideous skins, but I'm having a hard time imagining a simple all-black face plate. Most skins tend to ignore the simple obvious bits. Check my awesome 2-minute 3am mock-up (would have taken 1 minute if I had Photoshop and not a retarded GIMP)

For the same reason as to why I wouldn't hang this on my walls: http://www.museumofbadart.org/collection/portraiture-1.html Would you buy a hot pink round with plaid tv if it was functionally the same as a sleek black one? A pox on those that say design doesn't matter.
-
Yup. KOTOR's save file is over 20MB, I believe, which won't fit on the standard XBox memory cards. The XBox is probably the only console on which you'd have to break warranty to be able to transfer your own file saves. Well, maybe the first since the olden SEGA CD built-in-memory days.

Well, it IS a Microsoft console. So you're not a rapist if you rape hookers?
