  2. The Jason Scott Sabbatical

Jason Scott can be a bit of a blowhard at times, but he does have good insight into old BBS and network history. He had a presentation recently about low-fi porn, ANSI, Atari, BBS stuff, that was kinda interesting and amusing.
  3. Infinity Ward - MW2 news

    No, but there's this http://fidgit.com/archives/2009/11/is_modern_warfare_2_the_most_d.php
  4. Left 4 Thumbs

We managed to survive it through to the end without you and without Lewis so thanks for nothing . He was a good bit of Tank bait.
  5. EA drops new IP

That's the image that was released after EA acquired "Playfish" for 750 million. It's so cute and friendly! Afterwards: layoffs before the holidays! Sorry, no money
  6. [Blank] say the darndest things

Nothing wrong with Dahlen's quote in the context of the article. I'm sure watching someone play Demon's Souls is quite the boring experience. The first one though. Yeah.
  7. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I'm enjoying this new Shackleton / Invasion EP which is very Thumbs worthy for a very obvious reason: Wizards in Dub (it's good though) Also Which is fucking sweet if you like 8-bit reggae dubs.
  8. Blip Festival 2009

I wanted to go down last year, but didn't have the money for it. Now I'm just way too far from it.
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

    Kinda like Seinfeld finale.
  10. So did you go with the wire cutter or the knife?
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

I was in the same boat. I watched the show all the time through the first few seasons but basically stopped around when they left Vancouver (because Duchovny wanted to be closer to Tea Leoni or something) a bit before Mulder left the show entirely. I watched a couple episodes after that, but they were kinda bad, and I came back for the end only to be lost in the mythos. The whole Anasazi thing? No idea. It was weird. Should have ended at five seasons. That seems to be the magic number.
  12. Dragon Age

  13. Street Fighter IV

Not really. Never mind the fact that Super hasn't been announced for PC yet. And yes, the majority of people I know that play it do so on the 360 and, this might be a revelation to some, you can get arcade sticks (I was mostly using the Fightpad though) for the 360. Also: consoles are a bit more transient and portable/sellable than PCs, which suits my current, er, lifestyle.
  14. Street Fighter IV

The car bashing (and barrel breaking) bonus stages are just for the retro appeal. The real selling point of the new Super SFIV is the new lobby + replay system. Oh, if there's ever a game that's going to make me get a console in this foreign land that's going to be it.
  15. Oh god. They filmed an episode of that at my grade school
  16. Life

They look at you funny and laugh at you if you say "garbage" instead of "rubbish."
  17. 30 minutes of after-cast insanity? Nice F-U to all the Idle Thumbs detractors at the end Congrats on the run. 50 is a good number. I look forward to the new, sporadic Very Idle Two-Thirds Cast: Featuring Steve Gaynor. Also, now that you're not casting pods, maybe you can fix the thumb smilies on the forum now? Enjoy Maryland Nick.
  18. Left 4 Thumbs

But doesn't that generally fit the context of the series? I mean, apart from Bill, these aren't exactly soldiers. Just regular folk caught amongst the zombie apocalypse, picking up what they can find along the way. Shoot from the hip and GO GO GO. I mean, if you're going on about the lack of iron sights you might as well criticize the lack of cover mechanics, squad commands, user classes, and instant respawns while you're at it. But then, that's exactly the type of game that L4D is trying NOT to be. Keep it simple and focus on the action.
  19. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    Let me correct this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNh6v6-fpuI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNh6v6-fpuI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  20. Left 4 Thumbs

Considering the slaughter-fest we had a week ago, where we could barely leave the safe room without dieing, I'd have to agree. Realism mode might be good against AI opponents, but against humans? It'd be a little unbalanced unless they had very specific and very quick modes (wouldn't really fit the long campaigns). Maybe scavenger mode could work.
  21. That'd be me. I'm running it on my MacBook. You could get it to run in Parallels or Bootcamp, but that requires an entire Windows install+license. What I use is Codeweaver's CrossOver Games. It's not free though. Runs well enough for me. The installation process was pretty smooth. If you're feeling more adventurous, you can try using WINE which is the open source Windows emulator on which CrossOver Games is based. That's free. But, obviously, the installation process is a little more hands on.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

Are you sure they were unrelated characters? He had a minor role in the "end of the world" conspiracy episodes in the show, from what I remember. He was also a major character, if I also remember correctly (it's been a while), on Millennium. So, clearly, he was a favourite of Chris Carter and not exactly unknown back then. Funny enough, I downloaded season 1 of X-Files a while ago because of nostalgic and/or bored reasons. Haven't gotten around to it yet though.
