  1. Zune...

Zune! SO AWESOME. I want more DRM and more proprietary garbage in my audio players! And useless software just to get songs on to it! Software like this: http://faruk.newsvine.com/_news/2006/11/12/438632-zune-install-screen-raises-eyebrows And the best part is that Microsoft spent millions of dollars developing a DRM system to compare against Apple's. Licensed it to many other mp3 player developers. Gave it that guarantee of a name "PlaysForSure". And what do they do with the Zune? They ditch it. Way to go! Way to breed goodwill with third party music distributors/player makers there Microsoft. And way to stick it to those people that bought music OFF YOUR OWN SERVICE that they can't use anymore. Also it's totally awesome how everytime you buy a Zune you are giving money directly to Universal even if you never play anything from their fucking catalogue. YES! I LIKE PAYING FOR MUSIC I DON'T HAVE. It's appropriate that there is a brown Zune. I use a SanDisk http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1014)-MP3_Players.aspx Good capacity/size. Decent UI. Has radio AND voice recording. Registers as a disk drive when I connect it and then I can just drag and drop mp3s into it through explorer (don't have to rely on iTunes or Sony Connect or Media Player 10+ or other bullshit). Sound's good. Price is good. Screen is nice. Highly recommend it
  2. ELMUERTE'S Thread of LIESSSS

That's what I said. Er, reported. I was just making fun of the fact that he said "report" five times in one paragraph. Maybe journalists should invest in a thesaurus.
  3. ELMUERTE'S Thread of LIESSSS

So according to Luke Smith, "Game Journalism" is just the reporting of reports by reporters, which is why the report reporting by bloggers is so refreshing.
  4. DS Games

Anybody picking up Yoshi's Island DS? Getting some positive reviews and after playing the "platformer" that is Gears of War ( don't look at me, Cliffy B compared it to one) I'm kind of in the mood for a good classic 2D platformer. Unfortunately, there's like fifty million other games coming out at the same time.
  5. PS3 backwards compatibility glitch.

Not really. There were some games that had compatability problems with the smaller PS2 compared to the old PS2, and that was the same system! This is less surprising. Still, it's better than Microsoft's attempt. Want to play Panzer Dragoon Orta? TOUGH SHIT, GO PLAY KABUKI WARRIORS.
  6. Wifi

It essentially connects to the internet through your computer, so if your computer can get online it can too (assuming the drivers work, which they should). As for the range, I'm not sure.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

Twist? Head-fucker? Did you watch the same movie I did? I think you approached it expecting something else entirely.
  8. Gears of War Hype?

I've played quite a bit of the multiplayer today. It's fun. It's not too regular-FPS as it plays a bit more strategic, but at the same time it isn't full on Rainbow 6 either -- kind of a happy medium. The characters for the different teams are hard to distinguish sometimes. It might sound weird, but their shoes are practically identical (I say this because in one map there's a gap that you can shoot through but you mostly just see their feet unless they move back). But I think that's one of the things you get used to. It ran surprisingly well with little visible lag -- even in full 4 on 4, blood splattering matches. This is a far cry from the (dull) multiplayer of Prey. Still meaning to try the co-op. And as I progress in the single player campaign, the more I get annoyed. The main game is solid, but they add these other elements around it at times that are just infuriatingly irritating, requiring multiple die and repeat playthroughs, even on easy.
  9. Gears of War Hype?

I've only played the first act, but it is kinda fun. It definitely plays differently than the typical FPS and can be hard even on the easiest setting (there is one section with a Berzerker that pissed me off though). Squad mates are actually not-useless for once. The enemy is fairly smart-ish (though they do seem to sometimes jump into the line of fire). It has co-op for the full campaign, which is awesome. Overall, it's very well done. Yeah, the characters are the typical burly marine crap. Yeah, there's a lot of grunting and blood splattering and it feels generic in this way. And while all those creative decisions would keep me from giving the kind of scores that some of those publications are giving (makes you think about the demographic of the majority of game reviewers), but it is a solid game and *gasp* a new IP, so I give it credit for that.
  10. Lumines Live

If you go on the leaderboards for the "60 second mode", you can download replays of anyone with a posted score. While that mode is often speed-first, cleanliness second, you can get a good sense for how people match up blocks to get high combos and how they set them up and so forth.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, I would hope so. The pilot was such predictable, melodramatic tripe that it can't really get any worse.
  12. PS3 launch units drop a further 20%

Rated Z for Zombie? http://www.seekjapan.jp/article-1/785/The+State+of+Gaming+in+Japan Also, just so you know what kind of bargain you're getting, the Playstation 3 should be $2000. LUCKY FOR US, the Sony Playstation brand got in the way of that.
  13. Yes. They will do a new Kid Icarus adventure just as they made a new Ice Climber game after they included those characters. If anything, they might release Kid Icarus on virtual console around the time the game comes out, but a new game? I dunno.
  14. Lumines Live

You know what's really pissing me off about Lumines Live? They've clearned the leaderboards like three times since it's been out. WTF? I don't know if I can hit "80" in the "60 second mode" anymore and my almost million score on "Base" is now gone, gone, gone.

  16. Wiigion Locking

Shovelware? Some of these games are classics and should be remembered and enjoyed by new generations of gamers without some of these new "additions" that do nothing but detract from the original charm (I'm looking at you Konami, with your "enhanced" graphics). Shovelware is generally a derogatory term and doesn't apply to the likes of F-Zero or Super Mario 64 or Sonic the Hedgehog, whether you agree with the price or not. It's like calling 8 1/2 a B-Movie because you bought a DVD of it without special features. Sometimes the game/film should just be enjoyed on its own merits.
  17. PS3 launch units drop a further 20%

Sony strategy 1) Announce high price in its home region 2) Announce low stock in its home region 3) Announce price drop 4) Announce stock drop .. 6) Profit!?
  18. Doing research doesn't necessarily make it right. I'm sure they did "research" when they decided to put rootkits on their music CDs. Anyway, this is pointless. Can't we all just get along and agree that EA winning Publisher of the Year is complete

  20. Okami

Okami? More like... "Oh!? Crummy!!" I haven't played it in a while and didn't get too far in -- a move interrupted PS2 time -- but I was a little disappointed too. It's still great, and visually and creatively it is magnificent and enchanting and breathtaking, but gameplay... yeah, it follows the Zelda formula almost too closely. Which is kind of even more noticeable when you note that in Twilight Princess, you actually turn into a wolf at some point.
  21. Yes, because those technical restraints have no influence on shaping the nature of those games. This was all nice and civil until you brought the F-word into this discussion.
  22. People are idiots. How could they want to have a system that boots up and starts in seconds and games they can play in a few minutes while on public transit when they could spend that time staring at a loading screen. Morans.
  23. Wouldn't that be like making film awards for people that don't watch films? MOST INTERESTING MOVIE BASED ON THE TRAILER BEST MOVIE THAT EVERYONE ELSE WAS TALKING ABOUT BUT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN YET If you're going to promote games, you want to promote the best. If some loser idiot person sees the award for "Best Game", tries it, and realizes its shit, they're not going to have a good impression of video games in general.
  24. Interview etiquette 2

Yeah, why not? If you don't agree with their letter and you don't sign off on it, you can tell them as much. Formal or otherwise, it's still just an "offer" and until it is confirmed by both parties, it is not set in stone.
  25. Whenever I see "QFT", I think "quit fucking trolling" instead of "quoted for truth". You'll be surprised by how many times it actually applies! Play this game yourself. All you need is one lame forum and plenty of free time FOR FUN.
