Really bad forum topic title? more like ok time to fucking stop it now
n0wak replied to Spaff's topic in Video Gaming
Unfortunately, the sad part of this is that the only real new thread in the gaming forum is a thread telling others to stop posting threads with stupid titles (threads that are rare enough as it is!). Isn't anybody playing, you know, games now? I'm not Waiting for Crackdown though More like ass crack down-syndrome! -
Mind = blown. IE7 and Media Player 11 are fancy? Firefox is fugly compared to IE7? I... I don't know what to say. And yes, VLC isn't exactly a masterpiece of user design, but it's also not a bloated DRM shitstorm.

Ocarina of Time? More like Cock Arena of Slime... spoilers

We'll see how far you make it. When I played OoT for the first time off of the bonus disk that came with Wind Waker, I got bored mighty fast. Around the third dungeon, I think. And I loved Wind Waker. Not sure as to why that was though (the quitting, not the loving Wind Waker part). -
HOLY SHIT! I was walking around the city today and there are bombs EVERYWHERE. It's a fucking terror armageddon. I mean, Christ. THEY HAD LED lights. And they had a picture of a man. Sometimes even a HAND trying to give me the high-five. CALL THE COPS. I MEAN, LOOK AT THIS SHIT We are doomed!

PRE-EMPTIVE THREADING http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/hotelduskroom215 I hear it's already out in places. I'll go look for it tomorrow or Monday. Anybody have it yet? Anybody playing it? This is most anticipated game for the month so I'm eager to get.

Totally that last one. I mean, holy shit, this is a game that (idiotically, by some idiots) was dismissed as being too kiddie because of the artistic style (a style that won't get dated anywhere near as soon as TP) and yet . It also helped that they kind of redeemed the Tetra/Zelda character there. Tetra was a great little character until they pincessified her and took all the spunk out of her. Also: Link to the Past: Finding the "Chris Houlihan" room by sheer random luck. The general intro to the game. Nightime. Quiet, except for the rain. Everything seems dead. You find the hidden way into the castle. Get your sword. And all of a sudden you find yourself in the Castle and the music kicks in. Holy shit. Screw Gears of War or whatever else, THAT was next-gen at the time. It was one of the first SNES games that I played and it was so totally awesome for its day.

See, I think quite the opposite. What I've always loved about the Zelda games, especially the 2D ones, was the world design. Just being able to go around and explore. Very defined regions and communities. A lot of charm and character and that kind of dread that below the surface there was always something similar -- be it dungeons or portals into the dark world or what not. To me, the Zelda games have been all about exploring the world more than anything else. Story is irrelevant. And as a matter of subjective context: I thought Oblivion was the most unfocused plodding snoozefest that I've ever played.

Which page of the Doom book should be read in the podcast?

Nooooooooooooo. -
Technically, Zelda II - Adventure's of Link would fit that bill too. You're trying to prevent the return of Ganon in that, but you never do face him.

Holy shit. Not Advanced Shader Model 3.0 capabilities!!! That's totally better than 2.0. Looks alright, but I'm guessing it's a "left stick move, right stick shoot" kind of game and, well, that's definitely a genre that the 360 has covered. Have you played Assault Heroes? Not 4 player co-op, but it does two and it seemed alright. Definitely a similar old-school but new-vibe mechanic going for it. I never bothered to go beyond the demo because, as said, that style of XBLA game is getting tired for me, but it's worth a shot.

Looks like a usability nightmare.

Ugh. Not this argument again. It's pointless. It's the equivalent to saying that you can get a Mercedes for less than a Honda Civic... if you rice it up. The fact is, the INITIAL investment is the killer one. Staggering extra features over time doesn't hurt as much. With a 360, you're in to this "next-gen" game at a substantially lower cost. Everything else isn't needed. And one thing about the Live comparison. Buying a premium 360 or an XBox Live bundle means that you also get the headset. It's STANDARD. Pretty much everyone that has Live has a headset (whether they use it is a different matter). With the PS3, you don't get such universality. Also. Old, but:

Surprised no one used this yet:

Well, if we're going outside the realm of games there's also http://www.boingboing.net/2004/07/28/espns_accidentally_d.html Also, a College paper once had Beavers no match for Trojans

http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3156627&sec=REVIEWS http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/hotelduskroom215 The 1up guys on the podcast -- the ones that played it -- were raving about it too. Not that their opinion was going to affect my decision to get it anyway, but just saying.

Ok, I got it. The box design doesn't look all that good. The cover's OK, but it doesn't stand out and the type treatment is very ho-hum. Rated "T" for "use of alcohol." Eventually, I'll play it too.

Metroid Prime is still one of my favourite games from the last generation. I love the world design. It's very video game-ish in how it's built, but it looks so natural and organic that you don't really notice it. It was a basically a perfect transition from 2D Metroid to 3D and if you approach it like that, it's very enjoyable. If you approach it expecting a standard FPS, you won't.

This should totally be a TV series instead. Each episode follows the same routine. Character leaves house. Picks up mail. Goes fishing. Digs up a fossil or some shit. Delivers a fossil to the museum. Sends fossil at the post office. Sells fish to nook. Goes fishing again. Sells fish. Hits some random town people over the head with the bug net. Pays of mortage. Goes to sleep. REPEAT 40 times per season.

The issue is that it's Real Media.
