  1. Mass Effect

I'm a few hours deeper into Mass Effect and only like two real battle sequences have passed in that time. In a way this feels a lot like an adventure game so far. If you like a constant stream of dialogue, this is the game for you! Seriously, there is a lot of talking here. There's so much to this universe. I just got to my first new planet and so far... a lot of talking and bickering with some corporate managers. It's almost like being at work! Still keeping me interested though.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

There's a (potentially) better giant monster movie coming http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/
  3. Static

Yes. They have their uses http://www.audiogames.net/ (eg. for the blind)
  4. Oh man. I know that feeling. Way back when, my sister overwrote my Final Fantasy II save file. I was about a third of the way in but, most importantly, I managed to acquire the really rare (but completely useless) "Imp Summon". I restarted and played through the game to completion and beyond (I think my levels were in the high 90s in the end) but never again did I see that Imp summon. Everything felt incomplete after that.
  5. Not really. I love Terry Gilliam but that movie is pretty bad. Not the second coming of the bubonic plague as some reviewers say but not good. My god. I'm a bit further in, just over 40 stars, and some of the gravity stuff they're doing now really starts to mess with your mind. This game has some serious Portal-like mind-fucks going on here. . Also, I love the music they have going. From the battle music to the chillout background stuff.
  6. It gets so SO SO much better and every galaxy is different. It really is a game that keeps on giving (at about 32 stars myself). :gaming:
  7. Holy Ghostbusters!

Play through Ghostbusters 1 scenarios then Ghostbusters 2 then new content. At least that would be the ideal.
  8. Call of Duty 4

I believe I was in that game. Better to go out guns blazing than by hiding behind a sofa. And worry not about the teamkill, I took out my own teammate with a stray grenade in that game.
  9. Guitar Hero III (and demo!)

BTW http://kotaku.com/gaming/guitar-hero-iii/gh-iii-boss-battle-songs-live-free-323206.php Boss Bottle songs are available and are FREE. Thank god they didn't do the stupid thing there. Not that they're particularly fun to play anyway
  10. Call of Duty 4

Though I loathe having to unlock stuff for it, the customization system is really ace too. You can essentially make your own class by choosing weapon, attachment (scope, nade launcher), sidearm, grenades and two to three "perks" which can be anything from: "don't show up on radar" to "drop a grenade when you die" ( ). It adds this level of customization that really lets you tune the game to how you want to play it. Though it's annoying that most of these options aren't there when you are a starting noob
  11. Holy Ghostbusters!

    Ghostbusters III (VI in Japan)
  12. I'd agree with that, and I'm someone that liked Super Mario Sunshine. Though I think a lot of the appeal of that was precisely because I did not play SMB64 since I never did have an N64 (I played it much later on the DS but it didn't do it for me... doesn't feel like it aged well). The comparison that a lot of people are using is: Galaxy is to SMB64 as SMB 3 is to the original. I don't know if I'd go that far, but it comes close. It does feel like an evolution of the formula. Rather than the limited environments in 64 and Sunshine, here you get something new with every stage. And it has a lot of really fun, nostalgic surprises and challenges. The first time I heard that SMB3 level 1-2 music I had to And there's this little "Monkey Ball"-esque level in which the music plays to tempo of the speed you're moving There are so many nice little touches that it feels like SMB3 all over again (remember the boot?) That first galaxy's boss fight?
  13. This one's different. NEW THREAD NEEDED.
  14. Call of Duty 4

I only played a little bit of the single player and I wasn't impressed any, but the multiplayer is bloody fantastic. Kind of hate the whole unlocking thing -- don't mind it for cosmetic and ranking issues, but hate it for weapon upgrades and game modes -- but I can overlook that and focus on the play. It is so good.
  15. Fully ramblomatic reviewer releases game

Unfortunately, Knytt Stories and anything Knytt related is no longer in development. The creator was working on something expansive for that but, well, stopped.
  16. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Really? Though I can attest to the fact that Winnipeg is a frozen shithole, that album was the weakest thing he's put out in a while. BTW, if you like Rosszwhatever you should pick up My Downfall. It's worth it for "My Half" alone. Been also listening to the new Synapscape and these (local) guys lately (awesome crazy video). Great indie-electronica (or whatever the fuck you want to call it.)
  17. Guitar Hero III (and demo!)

To an extent. The second stage is a strip club It has scantily clad (disinterested) women dancing. When you play the encore, Morello plays "bow-chicka-wow-wow" on his guitar Also was the character that you liked "Pandora"? Yeah, she's gone...
  18. Portal

    What about Tomb Raider?
  19. Hot titles you're waiting for

Hey guys. RE: Metronome That "Surfer Girl" insider/rumour site just had a mention of Metronome: Also, in hindsight, this thread is awesome.
  20. Portal

I bet you did it in record time too.
  21. Interactive cruelty

But the point is that young people shouldn't be playing this in the first place. You can debate the effectiveness of the ESRB ratings and how easy it is for kids to get at these games, but that's another argument altogether. Fact is, it's not a game that's designed for those impressionable minors. Hell, I'd be more concerned if the scenes didn't leave an impression. Would you rather sterilize everything to the point of dullness? A game like Medal of Honor, with its no blood, no gore depiction of a bloody, gory scene (Normandy) is equally offensive to me.
  22. Interactive cruelty

I haven't played Manhunt 2 so I can not say but isn't putting together a video of all the kills without any of the context, no matter how loose it might be, kind of missing the point. I could put together a video of all the murders from "Man Bites Dog" and people would think it's the worst movie ever -- completely missing the whole point of the film. Now, I'm not saying that Manhunt 2 is on that level of complexity (probably not even CLOSE) but context is everything.
  23. Guitar Hero III (and demo!)

Hello Rockers. I've been playing around with the guitarhero.com online community features and I created an Idle Thumbs tour group if anyone wants to join: http://www.guitarhero.com/tour_groups/204945 The thing doesn't seem to support PS2 versions of the game, though it does cover everything else.
  24. Guitar Hero III (and demo!)

There is a new wireless guitar but my understanding is -- and this is a big time grey area -- is that it won't be compatible with Rock Band. Theoretically, Rock Band's guitar will work with Guitar Hero 3... but the first thing you see when you boot up GH3 is legal text that basically says that you are not allowed to use anything but an official Guitar Hero guitar or an official xbox controller. :( You should be able to use the older XPlorer guitar (from GH2) on Rock Band, though.
  25. Guitar Hero III (and demo!)

Apparently it has been confirmed that they will be released. I'm willing to wager that they won't be free
