  1. Mass Effect

I also went with Garrus and Wrex and as an Infiltrator. I liked the combination because I'd use the Sniper Rifles, Garrus would focus on Assault Rifles, and Wrex would decimate with the Shotgun. It was a nice mix of close/mid/long range attacks. Wrex was my favourite character. His Krogan Battlemaster class regenerates health pretty quickly, has some nice "magic" attacks, is strong and generally has good shields. Garrus did die too often early on but with the right armour and upgrades (focusing on health regen) I found him quite effective. Especially after getting "Unity". Unfortunately since I used Liara for the one mission where I thought it would be important to use her, I never did get the achievement for having Garrus with me for most of the game
  2. I got my 120th star a couple of days ago. Don't know if I feel compelled enough to do it again . You know what annoyed the fuck out of me with the last few stars? I didn't know about the "Long Jump" technique because I never looked in the manual and it was never explained in the game and some of those last few purple coins challenges are impossible to do without it. After jumping (and failing) for that last couple of coins a few times in the Freezeflame Purple coin challenge I was ready to throw the controller. Then I actually paid attention to what the Toad said there and saw that "long jump" was highlighted, looked in the manual and, a-ha!, that Luigi Coin Challenge became that much easier.
  3. The Wire

They don't keep it up. They get better.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

  If Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't get an Oscar (or Golden Globe)... there will be blood.
  5. Since the homepage thumb doesn't work, how about posting a compilation, here, of all Idle Thumb-related weblogs? (And let us ignore any possible lack of updates on some of them ) My short list so far: http://www.gameslol.com/ Marek http://www.gamingfascist.com/ Spaff http://hitselfdestruct.blogspot.com/ Duncan http://www.getoutofmyblog.com/ Bob http://crackedrabbitgaming.com/ Tommy Gun http://func-auton.net/blog Nachimir http://thunderpeel2001.blogspot.com/ ThunderPeel2001 http://viow.wordpress.com/ Wrestlevania & Dr. Gash http://www.captainaugust.com/ Rodi http://fullbright.blogspot.com/ - Steve http://www.cumulomentis.com/ - Alex http://www.meltwizard.com/ - Jake http://blogs.nofrag.com/vimes/ [FR] Vimes http://the-inbetween.com/ me Anyone else?
  6. Who is feeling stressed from Christmas?

I'm not stressed, but I find myself inconceivably bored at my parents' place. I brought my laptop and a PSP, some books and CDs, but it's not doing the trick. Also, it's cold in the basement. I already received a duplicate gift (what am I going to do with two copies of "The Road"). The TV is currently occupied with a DVD screening of "Hair". My sister's gone out to her boyfriend's, which is, coincidentally, where here PS2 is. And Guitar Hero. Blahhhumbug.
  7. Zero Punctuation

Nice ending song. Haven't heard that tune in a long time Also, my Shepard is named, in honour of Zero Punctuation, "I say"... sadly, it hasn't come into use.
  8. Holy Shit!

    That's a nice painting.
  9. Excuse the rough photoshop job I don't believe it either. Besides, we've already had plenty of expressive characters. Link in Wind Waker comes to mind. You don't need to be 99.98% photo-realistic to be expressive. Pixar proves this.
  10. Honesty & Integrity

And you know what? That's why most of the best shows on TV, in the US, are now all behind subscription services with no advertising breaks.
  11. Opening credits

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjmJWVc1RGY ? (which has reminded me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay3YPjHIxJw) Also good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oDuGN6K3VQ The music is what makes it, really. So iconic.
  12. Opening credits

It contains spoilers so I haven't read it for weeks. And Marek, you really should give it another go. It starts a little slow because it has to set everything up, but once you get through that the momentum just sucks you right in and punches you in the gut and then kicks you when you're down, aching.
  13. Opening credits

Oh, also (You have to skip ahead to get to the titles) http://youtube.com/watch?v=owfeSoW-DmY
  14. Opening credits

I like how The Wire has handled its opening credits. It's just a montage so it isn't the most interesting thing from an art direction perspective, but they have a different version of the same song every year and, in the montage, they have little bits and pieces from the whole season. When you're just starting a season it's fun to speculate what's going to happen because of it (especially since everything is shot and done by the time episode one airs.) Also, not as good as other suggestions, but thoroughly epic.
  15. w00t!

I think a lot of that has to do with the advent of voice communication. It kind of kills all those little stupid typo-ish insults since you sound like a total knob if you say "poned".
  16. Half Life 2: I'm really missing the point

http://www.stuffwelike.com/stuffwelike/2007/12/12/half-life-3-world-exclusive/ I guess you all can start looking forward to Half-Life 3 now (maybe it'll come out this century!). I'll stay indifferent.
  17. Because it's in the "Gaming" forum and has little to do with gaming?
  18. I think I'm about ready to end my time with SMG. I've completed every regular star in the galaxy and a bunch of comets and the only things I have left to collect are annoying, long coin fetch quests, difficult daredevil challenges and the like. Basically, stuff that is less fun than most everything else in the game. I'll give it one more shot tonight to see if I can get to 110, but I think I'm done. And I enjoyed every second of it.
  19. Half Life 2: I'm really missing the point

    I. I wasn't impressed by Half-Life 2 either. And I don't mean just now on Orange Box, but I mean when it came out on the PC. Made it a little bit past the boat sequence and never touched it again. Bored me to death. I definitely appreciate the architecture and art direction, but the game was so dull.
  20. Wii Virtual Console

http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=14220 The latest Wii update adds the ability to buy games as gifts. Just in time for the holidays. And looking through the library of Virtual Console releases (I recently had 3200 points just sitting there) there's a lot of good (and not so good) stuff in there. A lot of interesting games. So... anybody up for a "Secret Santa"-ish gift exchange over this? Just in time for the X-mas. (The only downside is that you're stuck gifting in the same region )
  21. Wii Virtual Console

You know what we had in Canada (and the US too )? Nothing. When we register games we might get... extra wallpapers and online crap. No "real" goods of value, ever.
  22. The Backlog

I thought this was going to be about the backlog of games from this year rather than all time. My all time list would be too long to write. My list for the year is long enough on its own. I kinda want/don't want to finish the single player CoD4 but, mostly, get my rank up on that in multiplayer. Still haven't touched "Phantom Hourglass". I've wanted to play this year's NHL. All sorts of things on the PS3, which I do not have yet. A bunch of virtual console games like Paper Mario (played some Sin and Punishment though ) Want to play Fire Emblem and get back into Metroid Prime. I want to get that commander rank in Halo 3 The 360 has been getting the most love so it has the fewest games on the backlog.
