  1. There is no "uncanny valley" for sound...

    Now do it in Malboge!
  2. World of Goo

So, uh, would I be able to play this with a Macbook trackpad and one button?
  3. PLAYSTATION®3

The proper term is PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. I don't have one yet (I will when I get back) but there's a bunch of PSN stuff you can buy without ever going to a store: Burnout Paradise, WipeOut HD, Everyday Shooter, Pixeljunk Eden, Tekken 5 DR, other stuff.
  4. Please see my previous post in regards to getting good quality out of Skype (hint: record a separate audio track at the source) http://hivelogic.com/articles/2008/10/how-to-record-a-multi-person-podcast (though it does mean more editing work.)
  5. Guh. You know, I was never a big PC gamer and never played too many Adventure games, but I did play Legend of Kyrandia and that fucking cave section with the glowing bushes can go fuck right off. It didn't help that my monitor at the time was lousy with poor gamma so I couldn't see the rocks that you had to find properly and I never managed to open that damned door with that weight scale. Yes, I remember this 100% because I made a fucking map on grid paper to get through that section. I quit in frustration and never touched adventure games again* * ok, I did play Discworld on the PS1 later and a few other things, but fuck Kyrandia.

  7. Send us questions!

Yeah, the sound quality was quite good, especially for a first show (listen to the first episodes of some other gaming podcasts for comparative purposes, you'll see how bad the audio quality is in most of them *cough*RockPaperShotgun*cough*) but I agree Wrestlevania, you sounded like you were in another room. The police sirens do add to the ambiance though.
  8. Tekken 6 for 360

Man, this thread was derailed by trolls before it even got started. But yes, if you liked Tekken 2 you should give Tekken 5 a go. Especially if you have a PS3, you can download T5:DR. It's a decent fighter, pretty, and it threw away some of the shit that they added in Tekken 4. Stay away from Tekken 4. I spent so much time on Tekken 2 that I can't help but have a nostalgic twinkle in my eye for the series despite its faults (Tekken 4 ) I can understand why people prefer Virtua Fighter or Soul Calibur, but I like how Tekken gets the right balance between depth, button mashing casualness and balance.
  9. Spore

It's all a copy of BASIC Snake anyway
  10. Send us questions!

Chris, why don't you tell us what you really think about digital rights management? (PS: any thoughts about TGS?)
  11. Just came across this http://hivelogic.com/articles/2008/10/how-to-record-a-multi-person-podcast if you guys ever think of bringing on "guests" (cause yes, Skype audio quality sucks).
  12. And yes, game music of that time definitely was influenced by the music of the era. I can't find anything (apart from the Sonic 3/Michael Jackson thing) to back my citation, but it's true. Also, Legend of Zelda's overworld theme was supposed to be Ravel's Bolero but they then found out it was under copyright. Most other developers were less vigilant in checking such things at the time. And yes, there was no console war in those NES days until the SNES came out in an era when the Genesis and Turbo Grafx-16 were advertising how much better than the NES they were. And yes
  13. Site Question

I checked the site. There are some images that aren't being loaded properly. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the edit error, but it is trying to load some "progress" image. /images/T2/misc/progress.gif Try putting something there. Maybe it'd work? I can take a deeper look into if anyone wants.
  14. VIDEO GAMES

    Stock photo student approved!!
  15. VIDEO GAMES

Hey, um, you might want to put an index file in that directory. I'm getting a directory listing and a bit more than a "preview" of everything
  16. VIDEO GAMES

The new addition is classic. Or would that be baroque?
  17. VIDEO GAMES

I AM SO CONFUSED. If that "chuff" thing is a reference to 1up podcasts I want to punch you.
  18. VIDEO GAMES

    video gameS is one word.
  19. Nintendo DSmeh

Screw that, give me classic Gameboy games (Zelda 3, Donkey Kong, WarioLand) that are hard to find or play already, and fucking Neo Geo Pocket titles and import Wonderswan shit and all these quirky portable titles that are impossible to find because nobody carries old, bare portable carts anymore. But likely, knowing Nintendo, we'll get Mario Land for $8 instead and not much else (Oh, and I would pay for Gameboy "Golf" all over again. I am serious. It's my favourite golf game ever.)
  20. Spore

You need to get out of Calgary. Then again, your provinces got us into this mess so please fix things I don't consider myself a lefty. More centrist, with some right leaning and left leaning ideals. The thing is that I'm Canadian and a centrist Canadian is still, relatively speaking, far more left wing than the American Democrats. I think this applies to most of Europe too. That creature creator? Pretty cool, guys!

  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been liking the "Empire of the Sun" album quite a bit lately. Not exactly the type of music I listen to normally, but the album is mostly quite good. Certainly very catchy, even in that kind of cornball disco kind of way (like the video). Also: new ohGr, alva noto, duo505 but I won't bore you with those.
