  1. What did you learn today?

All sorts of insight about French people, French courtesy and the whole socialist system they have here. Don't ever take the Paris metro at 7pm
  2. OK, I'd like to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt, but to me that seems like the kind of over-hyping that is destined to fail. They said some pretty fucking ambitious things about Star Wars Galaxies too. Look where that got them.
  3. For the love of God, people

    OH YES THERE IS
  4. Syndicate revivial

Did you play The Darkness, though? In some ways that was their attempt at a free-roaming city environment and the interactions with the NPCs were a little flubbed there. Mostly because of the segregation they had between "interactive kill fest" that was the city, where no plot-dependent NPCs would roam, and the restrained world of the subway stations. It seemed forced. They had some justifications for it using the possessing demon license angle, but it was just awkward. The city felt mostly dead because of it. The reason it worked in Riddick was because of the setting. It makes sense to have different levels of interaction in a prison, when you're incarcerated without proper weapons and when you're escaping guards, but it was jarring in what was supposed to be a real city (or an approximation of one). So, I don't know. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. "The Darkness" wasn't exactly the most tantalizing of licenses.
  5. Syndicate revivial

They did Enclave, as well as some other obscure games, prior to Riddick. But yes, Riddick was amazing. My favourite shooter on the XBox. I was looking forward to the 360 upgrade but it got lost in the Activision shuffle recently so who knows if it'll even show now. The Darkness was a weaker game, but it had some good character and a few interesting ideas in it. It wasn't enough to keep me captivated through the whole game but I certainly appreciated some of the design of it. I never played Syndicate but I'm interested in it simply because of Starbreeze. I'm curious to see what they can do with something that isn't a licensed property, giving them a little more creative headspace (though I realize that they have to live up to an established game, but it's different with a game.)
  6. Uncharted

Obviously, my stupid pun of a joke was a failure. (That said, as a non-PS3 owner, Resistance 2 is looking interesting. Their multi-class co-op thing sounds pretty cool, better than Gears' horde mode. But this is the wrong thread for that.)
  7. Uncharted

That's OK. Resistance 2 is just around the horizon.
  8. Valkyria Chronicles

I'm very curious about this game, it's one of my most anticipated, but I worry that the whole strategic element is going to be simpler than it could be. I worry that it'd fall into the whole Japanese SRPG routine of leveling up, buying gear until you can overpower everyone -- which undermines the whole unit placement and flanking and strategic elements that the game seems to have. Any thoughts about how the game feels in that regard?
  9. FUUUUUUCK!!!

Next year. 9/9/09 will be the 10th anniversary of 9/9/99.

  11. Little BIG Planet

Is there anything that superstitious beliefs in skypeople can't ruin? If anything, they should be going after the people that made the song rather than those that licensed it. I'm sure that song's been out there for far longer than the game, but these people live in a logic free zone.
  12. Brütal Legend without publisher !!

It's definitely been dropped by Activision, however, if DF makes it available for EA, would EA consider publishing it? Just because it's without a publisher doesn't mean that it's available to any company with a publishing agreement.
  13. VIDEO GAMES

For all intensive purposes, let's declare this discussion closed. This is my concerted effort.
  14. BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams

Yeah, don't worry. The game is in good hands
  15. BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams

Huh? He's still there, isn't he? He's just not directly involved with Bioshock 2 as 2K Marin is doing it; he still adds his input, of course.
  16. PLAYSTATION®3

I haven't played Warhawk, so I can't comment about the game specifically (I did beat the original though ), but one thing to consider is that the game is a year old now and the community around it is considerably mature. The player skill has likely plateaued quite high and it's always frustrating getting into such multiplayer games this late in the game. Might be better off waiting for something newer.
  17. Achievements in World of Warcraft

XBox Live. Steam. PS3 trophies. Flashbang's games. World of Warcraft. Does every game need achievements now?
  18. Operation "Get it on GameSetWatch" is a success! Give it a day or two though. I had an RSS aggregater written a while ago (it's still partly functional) for my site. If you guys need any codery help with that I can provide it. I'm not doing anything else with me time.
  19. Can't you get Simon over at GameSetWatch to include a link in his semi-daily "GameSetLinks" roundups?
  20. Grand Theft Auto IV

No. You're thinking Zack and Wiki.
  21. Although I was expecting the Tekken fanboy song to be more of a direct dramatic reading, like this, of the comments rather than a homage to them. Not that I'm complaining because it was good, but that's the problem... unlike the comments, it made sense. And no mention of "Again" at TGS? I thought you guys had a bit of an adventure game heritage
  22. Grand Theft Auto IV

Yeah, with random people it's really so-so, but with the right people it is fucking awesome. I was in a bunch of races with some people from another community a few months ago and it was honestly as fun as Mario Kart (there were weapon pick-ups on the road!) The boat races are ass though
  23. Tori Spelling But it IS an award winner! That's promising. A Cthulu film winning the H.P. Lovecraft film festival is a total triumph I'll shut up now.
  24. TGS awards: amateur division

Apparently, there was more weirdness at some Chinese delegation or something, including a game called "Shit Wars" (or something similar). Can't find any coverage of this And it's not like the independent Japanese developers have a monopoly on stupid game titles. I'm look at you Kingdom Hearts: three hundred fifty eight divided by two days
