Grand Thumb Auto XXXIV: Wrestle & James - Justice on Wheels
n0wak replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I was online hoping someone would show up early, but no one did and I had to go -
I still can't connect. Game's fucked up for me. Shame too, cause I wanted to give EA my money. Instead, it's going to LucasArts. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY EA.

I have it and I'm game as long as we don't go to Big Surf Island (don't have it, nor the space for it on my HD)

Dude. I got killed first. All I heared was "HE'S A TRAITOR" then, bang, fucking shotgun at point blank killing me instantly. Followed by the sounds of a slaughter in the elevator. "Slightest provocation". I'd say killing two or three of them is a bit of a provocation. And if you're finding this easy, we can definitely go Legendary. Shit gets hard though. And if you find THAT easy, we can start with a few of the skulls enabled. When you play a campaign you can activate the skulls for extra in-game effects (there's also a scoring variant of the campaign where you get points for headshots/kills/streaks, etc... there are achievements for those and I want them. The skulls add multipliers.) For example, the skull we picked up on the begging of the first level makes it so that shields do not regenerate unless you melee an opponent. Add to that the skull that makes enemies throw wayyy more grenades and the one that removes all of your HUD and, well, you have a recipe for death.

Idle Thumbs 33: Where's the Goddamn Thread?

Playing as the Big Daddy in Bioshock 2 is more akin to playing as the Arbiter in Halo 2 than it is to what it would be to play Pyramid Head in Silent Hill. -
Really fucking weird for me. The game does not show up on XBox Live at all. Not in the recently added, not in the full marketplace gallery, no where. But it's there on XBox.com where I can queue it up for download automatically. I'm downloading it now. No idea what's going on there.

Grand Thumb Auto XXXIII: Starting to See Why Roman Numerals Has Been Phased Out...
n0wak replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I'm actually home today! tup But I have to leave at 3:30EST tdown -
Well, there's Myst. Also Frotz is pretty much essential. It's a text adventure interpreter, comes with multiple games, and is free. There's also 1112. I've played none of these, apart from Frotz, so I can't recommend either way.

The Idle Thumbs Downloadable Content Thread
n0wak replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Wow. That thing's up to 25000 views now? I remember when it was a little "three digit view" baby. *sniff* -
If something gets scheduled at a time I can attend, I'll be there. Otherwise, back to Peggle

Idle Thumbs 32: The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of
n0wak replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I can relate with the Lumines thing. I love the game, but can't play the regular mode because it takes too long. While I've never gone as far as Chris, I think the longest I survived was near four hours, it's why I mostly stick to the 60 second or 180 second speed modes. This kind of max difficulty on games is why I can not ever play Tetris again. Not the new Tetris games with the officialTM Tetris rules which include infinite spin. It maxes out the game's difficulty and, if you're good enough, makes it possible to play almost infinitely (but not really since Tetris is not solvable). I just gave up and never played Tetris DS again after getting to this point: I even had to pause to recharge the batteries of my DS in the middle of that. So fucking annoying. -

Wild forum tangents aside, I am digging this game. It has its flaws as it trudges through tired-old Video game territory (throwing waves of stupid enemies at you, really oddly paced levels and direction, etc) and, as a movie, it isn't all that good (Bill Murray really phoned it in on this one), but, strangely, as a movie-game it works well. Having multiple guys trap a ghost in a proton stream, all trying to direct it into a thrown trap is weirdly satisfying. It's also rather fresh as far as Video game combat tropes are concerned. Haven't tried the multiplayer though, but so far I've enjoyed the game. A good summer game, if anything.

I thought this was going to be about Ed McMahon. RIP

That was me with the vomit It was fun. Took a while to get used to playing Infected as this was my first time playing online (still couldn't get the controls of the hunter down though...) and, really, second time ever, but it was easy to adjust after a bit of reorientation. It's certainly a hell of a lot of fun destroying most of a team with a tank while they're still in the safe house I just wish my latency wasn't so horrible.
-
Yeah, I kinda wish they had more of those. The last one was a bitch to get right.
-
I'd say probably yes. I'm still playing it to an extent and want to do some of the co-op stuff, but it's not a game that'll have legs since the default decks are all kinda lame in their own ways. BUT, if you haven't played Magic, it is a pretty good introduction to the game and its potential. Once you do get it, what cards work well together and what strategies require what actions, then you're just going to crave the real, deck-building metagame that it requires. I guess in that sense the game does what Wizards would probably like it to do. But having been in that Magic scene, long long ago, I really don't want to go back and want to have a nice standalone game that I can play on my own. I'd have gladly paid for DLC expansions if they let me build my own decks, but since they don't, it's a decent $5 game that I'll be done with in a few days and never go back to. (And yes, I am aware of Magic: TG Online, but that's a whole other beast)

I've completed the campaign

I'm completely disappointed in this game. I understand the rationale for it, making it more accessible for the home-console crowd, but not including ANY deck customization in a Magic the Gathering game is just plain retarded. That meta-game is half of the fun. Instead, you're stuck with a bunch of pre-designed decks with a few extra unlockable cards that you can add or remove. WHOOPDEEFUCKINGDOO. None of the available decks suit my play-style so I'm already starting to get bored. I've almost cleared the campaign, so what incentive is there for me to keep playing after this? I think they really blew it on this. They had a relapsed Magic: the Gathering player coming back into the fold for the first time in 10 years, one with actual disposable income (something that I didn't have at the time I played), and they've just pissed that chance away. Maybe I'll try again in another 10 years. TDOWN On the other hand, it has me craving for a proper Video game CCG now: Culdcept, here I come.

Biosphere is good stuff. Personally, I like Cirque a lot. Also, his collaboration with Deathprod, which is pretty much full on ambient, is pretty great too. Speaking of ambient (and Tim Hecker), there's a new Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto collab out. --- More techno/beat-driven is the new Few Nolder album. Dig it quite a lot, especially the 11 minute final track. http://www.planet-mu.com/artists/fewnolder I've been digging these long 11+ minute tracks lately. "The Field" and last year's "Lindstrom" come to mind. Great for boring commutes. Also been listening to a lot of Kap Bambino, and some Futurecop and autoKratz and the new Kitsune Maison compilation. I feel so electroclash hipster

And they're mostly Toronto based. And nice people too!
