  1. I hope none of you got swine flu. Who'd have figured that a giant conflagration of geeks would be a prime disease breeding ground?
  2. Maybe Stanza? It's free http://www.lexcycle.com/ There's a bunch of ebook apps out there so it could have been anything... "Classics"?
  3. Games with steep difficulty curves

I'm just using this as an excuse to link to this
  4. Life

Yes we should! I'm available anywhere and anytime. I'm in the far north end of the 16e, but this is probably the worst place for any meet-up so I'm open to suggestions.
  5. Life

So I'm in Paris. Le hi.
  6. Ass Ass In Creed Too

Hmm. I like Justice as much as the next douchebag, but wow is that music so completely mismatched from the content. That's almost Dragon Age territory there. I do like the setting though and the world design. Just wish that somebody would do something more with it than typical-action-game-fodder bullshit.
  7. First game you remember playing

I remember playing some Atari football game at a family friend's place, or at least watching it, not long after we moved to Canada. Not long after that I remember playing some shooter well into the night at another friend's place which, later, I would recall to be River Raid. But my first real solid memory of a Video game, one that I played on my own, was a "Jackal" arcade machine. That game was so good. Still is.
  8. Audio file hosting

  9. Non-video games

I played the original, and I've read that some of the later games address some of the issues, but with the first one I'd have to say: no. That said, it is pretty good for non-gamers and can be pretty hectic and fun. You never know who's going to escape, who's going to die, things turn from good to bad in a moment. It's a decent party-level boardgame. But if you play with gamers you will be frustrated at all the randomness and unbalance. Basically, the second someone gets close to winning everyone unleashes their cards to stop that person, penalizing them hard. And because there are only so many cards they all get reshuffled so next time someone gets close to winning... well, you get the idea. It ends up being more about luck than anything.
  10. Two great moments captured in video (unfortunately, no helicopter chase footage): - Me killing patters in cops and robbers with blind pistol shooting. How I got a headshot I don't know. - me being blown up by Ysbreaker in our rocket match, then watching my corpse fly over the trees and down towards Wrestlevania... just as he was launching a rocket. It hit me and he died.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

    Reminds me of this, which is weird to hear from a future Republican governor <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V30tyaXv6EI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V30tyaXv6EI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object> Ok. Probably not that weird. For a Republican.
  12. iPhone/iTouch gaming

I'm curious as to how you think it controls. Flashback has always been a game of pinpoint timing, so I can't imagine it playing at all comfortably on an iPhone.
  13. Non-video games

Those that like Magic and the deck building, but hate the constant need to buy shit and the millions of cards and rules clarifications should really check out Dominion. It's a pretty awesome Eurogame. Not technically a boardgame, as it's all cards, but it essentially plays like one. The trick with Dominion is that you build your deck during the game. It's kind of hard to explain without going into too much detail, but it's ultimately a game of balancing your various cards and hands on the fly. And Duels of the Plainswalkers made me want to get back into Magic (used to play from Ice Age to about two sets into the Tempest block) but the lack of any deck building put me off so much. MTGO is just too daunting, and actual card playing with people is too smelly and weird, unless you have friends that play (I don't.) So boo for that.
  14. Street Fighter IV

So it seems as though my save file has been corrupted, which means that everything is lost. Over 130 hours worth of stats and titles and icons Most of that shit I don't care about anymore since I had given up on completing the hard trials. But what does bug me, and seriously bugs me, is that I have to unlock all those fucking characters again. I can't use some of the characters I had been practicing online anymore because I have to tediously play the single player campaign. Once again I am reminded how shit unlockable content is and how artificial the whole design is. I've already spent 130 hours with this. It's good. You don't need to add this fucking bullshit to extend the life of the game. UGH. You'd think with my leaderboard scores and rank points the game could figure out that "hey, this guy knows what he's doing. Let me unlock this stuff for you." But no, guess that's too much to ask for in this day and age. :frusty:
  15. Non-video games

Knizia's "Tigris and Euphrates" is not only one of my favourite boardgames, it's also one of my favourite games period. So good. So bloody friend destroying. Also like: Agricola. Puerto Rico. Dominion. Catan, too, I guess, but it's kinda tired now. Still great for introducing new people to eurogames though. Same with Ticket to Ride.
  16. Life

A giant tub of ice cream is an equally wonderful anti-depressant. I'm conflicted.
  17. A very arse-backwards setup involving a TV Tuner card and numerous long cables, RCA splitters, male to female adapters, and male to male phono cables. If you pay close attention to the video, you might notice that only the left speaker audio recorded... I was short one splitter and didn't get both.

  19. New people: Read this, say hi.

Oh god, I've been there. You can do it online but you have to log-in to like three different sites and the whole process is completely retarded. for killing Goonsquad though!
  20. I think part of the appeal of StarCraft, and the reason for its success, is that you don't need a good computer for it. I bought the game for the first time a couple months ago. Haven't gone more than a few missions into it yet though
  21. Burn the Rope !!

See also I MAED A GAME WITH ZOMBIES IN IT!!1! or however you spell it, on XBox Live Indie Games.
  22. Life

Oh man, that sucks. You guys broke up? Hope everything mends well. Not much going on over here. Just working a lot. And I'm moving to France in two weeks, with absolutely no plans for what to do after I get there. Apart from that, just playing a bit of Street Fighter. ho hum.
  23. It worked out in the end though. I managed to work my way up back to the bridge and realized that a rocket launcher spawns in the middle of it. So I jacked a couple cars, parked them on the bridge, created a roadblock and set off to unleash as much carnage as possible. I had already won a race that day so I was good! I did enjoy the leader-blip only rocket match on the full island too. Explosions galore, people sneaking up on each other, hit and runs (kind of effective when during leader blip as it makes it easier to sneak up on people). Hitting toblix, who had set up on an overpass shooting rockets down on people, with a rocket from like a kilometer out was nice.
  24. Need Help from French Forumers!

I know quite a few girls that would, actually. There's a bunch of cool little art galleries and shops right near the Pompidou centre along the side streets. Rue Quincampoix, if I remember correctly. And my favourite music shop was right off of Rue de Charonne near Bastille. I remember that area being fairly cool too. And if you like art, the Palais de Tokyo (near the Trocadero, Eiffel Tower) has a lot of good, contemporary exhibits. It's a large enough space in cool building (ok, the backside of it is kinda sketch though ) but not big enough to be on all the touristy maps.
